Polygenic risk scores (PRSs) for mental disorders have become a major player in child psychiatry research. PRSs quantify a child's risk for childhood psychiatric disorders by summing the effects of a multitude of common risk genetic variants across the entire genome. Each genetic variant in isolation contributes a minuscule amount to the disorder, but their combined effect can be substantial. The study by Pat et al.1 illustrates how PRSs can be used as a starting point to examine the mechanisms that might link common genetic variant risk with symptoms. In their exploration of how genes, cognition, and psychopathology may be tied together, the authors apply meticulous analytic techniques to a rich, open dataset (the Adolescent Brain Cognitive Development [ABCD] cohort) and report fascinating results.
Tinnitus is associated with a variety of cognitive, psychosocial and psychiatric disorders, and may contribute to suicidality. However, the prevalence of suicidal ideation (SI) in tinnitus populations has not previously been systematically reviewed.

Medline, Embase and PsychInfo were searched in August 2020 to identify studies that assessed suicidal ideation in people aged 16 years and above with subjective tinnitus.

Six cross-sectional studies were included, representing 7192 tinnitus sufferers across 4 countries. The pooled prevalence of suicidal ideation in tinnitus populations was 20.6 per cent (95 per cent confidence interval, 10.8-30.3 per cent; I2 = 88 per cent). Two studies included a control population, in which the prevalence of suicidal ideation was significantly lower. The quality of included studies was variable.

It is not possible to arrive at any reasonable conclusion given the lack of quality studies, meaning the pooled prevalence should be interpreted very cautiously. Suicidal ideation may be more prevalent in tinnitus populations. Further large-scale epidemiological research investigating this relationship is needed, which may help psychiatric risk stratification.

The combination of biocontrol agents is a desirable strategy to improve control efficacy against the root-knot nematode (RKN) Meloidogyne incognita under field conditions. However, strains compatibility is generally tested in vitro and incompatible combinations are normally not further examined in experiments in planta. Therefore, there is virtually no information on the performance of incompatible strains. In this study, we evaluated two Bacillus strains previously described as incompatible in vitro for effects on plant growth and suppression of M. incognita, pathogenic fungi and nematophagous fungi.

Strains BMH and INV were shown to be closely related to Bacillus velezensis. These strains, when applied individually, reduced the number of galls and eggs of M. incognita by more than 90% in tomato roots. When BMH and INV were combined (BMH + INV), RKN suppression and tomato shoot weight were lower compared to single-strain applications. Additionally, metabolites in cell-free supernatants and volatile organic compounds (VOCs) from strains BMH and INV had strong effects against the plant pathogens M. incognita, Fusarium oxysporum, Rhizoctonia solani and Sclerotium rolfsiii, but not against three species of nematophagous fungi. Although strain INV and the combination BMH + INV emitted fewer VOCs than strain BMH, they were still capable of killing second-stage juveniles of M. incognita.

Bacillus strains BMH and INV inhibited M. incognita and fungal pathogens, and promoted tomato growth. However, strain INV emitted fewer VOCs and the combination BMH + INV did not enhance the activity of the biocontrol strains against the RKN or their capacity to promote plant growth.

Stereotactic needle brain biopsy is a commonly used neurosurgical procedure. However, up to 15% of biopsies result in undiagnostic pathology reports. Repeat biopsy or continued management without a diagnosis are often considered after undiagnostic biopsies. There have been no reports about the role of postoperative imaging in predicting the diagnostic yield of stereotactic biopsies.

We retrospectively assessed all stereotactic biopsies performed over an 11-year period. We performed fusion of immediate postoperative computed tomography (CT) with preoperative MRI, to document whether the air bubble in the postoperative CT was located within the targeted lesion. We then evaluated the association of this fusion-based accuracy assessment with the diagnostic yield of the biopsy.

Fewer than 5% of biopsies did not have an air bubble on postoperative CT. A total of 226 biopsies were performed for 219 patients. In our sample, 213 of 226 biopsies were accurate (94.2% accuracy rate), and 203 of 226 biopsies gave a definitive diagnosis (89.8% diagnostic rate). In those cases where the fusion was accurate, the diagnostic rate was 93.9%. When the fusion was inaccurate, the diagnostic rate was only 23.1% (odds ratio 51.5, 95% confidence interval 12.6-210.44, P < 0.001). Of all patient, imaging, surgical, and admission parameters, the only parameter that correlated with diagnostic outcome of the biopsy was the fusion construct accuracy.

Fusion of immediate postoperative CT with preoperative imaging is predictive of the diagnostic rate. In cases where the pathology report following a biopsy is not diagnostic, this fusion may be useful in making decisions regarding repeat biopsy or considering other diagnostic options.

Based on stereotactic electroencephalogram (SEEG) or electrocorticogram (ECoG) analysis to localize the seizure onset zone (SOZ), RNA sequencing (RNA-seq) analysis was performed for the SOZ and para-SOZ tissue obtained from surgery. The differentially expressed genes between SOZ and para-SOZ samples were analyzed by performing Go (Gene ontology) analysis and Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes (KEGG) pathway enrichment analysis."Extracellular matrix"was significantly enriched, which included collagen synthesis genes (e.g., COL1A1)."Ether lipid metabolism"was enriched in the KEGG pathway enrichment analysis. These differences could be the potential biological markers for SOZ localization. Objective To analyze the incidence and risk factors for postoperative venous thromboembolism(VTE) in patients with stage Ⅰa non-small-cell lung cancer(NSCLC), so as to find evidence for further research of prophylactic anticoagulation. Methods A total of 132 patients with stage Ⅰa NSCLC, 42 males and 90 females aged from 26 to 79 years with an average of (57±10) years, were retrospectively included in this study. All of them underwent surgical treatment at the Department of Thoracic Surgery of Beijing Chaoyang Hospital Affiliated with Capital Medical University from January 2017 to October 2020. A lower extremity venous ultrasound was performed before and after the operation. Participants were divided into VTE group (n=11) or non-VTE group (n=121) according to whether or not VTE occurred after operation. The surgical conditions, test indicators, imaging information, pathology information were compared between the two groups. Logistic regression analysis was performed to test the associations of VET with putathe operation may be an independent risk factor for postoperative VTE in patients with stage Ⅰa NSCLC.Objective To compare and evaluate the diagnostic performance of visual evaluation and CT maximal density relative enhancement value in the diagnosis of intestinal ischemia complication in patients with closed loop obstruction and to explore the feasibility of CT maximal density relative enhancement value in quantifying the degrees of intestinal ischemia. Methods The clinical and CT imaging data of 82 patients, 46 males and 36 females, aged from 19 to 78(52±18) years, with closed loop obstruction were retrospectively analyzed in the First Affiliated Hospital of Zhengzhou University from July 2017 to July 2019. All patients were classified into three groups necrosis group (28 cases), ischemia group (22 cases), non-ischemia group(32 cases) using clinicopathologic results as reference standard. CT visual evaluation was performed by two experienced radiologists. The sensitivity, specificity, positive and negative predictive values and accuracy of the two observers were calculated respectively. The inter-observer a value of necrosis group was higher than that of ischemia group and un-ischemia group (both P less then 0.05). The enhanced CT value of non-ischemia group was higher than that of ischemia group and necrosis (both P less then 0.05). The relative enhancement value all had a significant difference between groups (all P less then 0.05). Taking maximal density relative enhancement value below 19.5 HU as diagnosis threshold, the sensitivity, specificity and area under curve(AUC) were 96.9%, 74.0% and 0.947, respectively. Taking enhanced CT value below 66.5 HU as diagnosis threshold, the sensitivity, specificity and AUC were 93.8%, 60.0% and 0.903, respectively; the sensitivity was higher than that of objective visual evaluation. Conclusion Maximal density relative enhancement value can quantize the bowel wall enhancement, and is a more reliable way in the diagnosis of intestinal ischemia than visual evaluation. Objective To examine the prevalence of multiple antiphospholipid antibodies (aPL) subtypes in healthy people and antiphospholipid syndrome (APS) patients, and to assess the value of IgA-aPL in the diagnosis of APS. Methods According to the 2006 Sydney International APS Classification Criteria, a total of 218 APS patients who were admitted to Peking Union Medical College Hospital or West China Hospital of Sichuan University from July to December 2019 were enrolled. Among them, 66 were males, and 152 were females, aged (44.5±15.4) years, including 148 primary APS patients and 70 secondary APS patients. Age-and gender-matched controls were collected at the same period at the ratio of 1∶1 with the APS cases. IgA/IgG/IgM anticardiolipin antibodies (aCL) and anti-β2 glycoprotein I antibodies (aβ2GPI) were detected by chemiluminescent immunoassay. The differences of indicators between groups were analyzed, and the receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve was used to evaluate the diagnostic value of IgA-aPL for APS.
