Whole-Genome Metagenomic Analysis of the Gut Microbiome in HIV-1-Infected People about Antiretroviral Remedy.
at high T stage, metastasis, low expression levels of cytoplasmic PTEN protein and high expression levels of cytoplasmic pAktSer473 protein were significantly associated with poor survival (P=0.006, 0.001, 0.011 and 0.014, respectively). Co-expression of PTENlow/pAktSer473/high and pAktThr308/high phenotypes was associated with a less favorable overall survival (P=0.001). Overall, the present findings demonstrated that low expression levels of PTEN and high expression levels of pAktSer473 and pAktThr308 were predictors for poor overall survival in patients with UTUC.The present study aimed to assess the expression level of adenylate kinase 4 (AK4) in human serous ovarian cancer (SOC) tissues and investigate the possible involvement of AK4 in SOC progression. Bioinformatics analysis based on The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) database and immunohistochemical (IHC) assays were performed to assess the expression level of AK4 in human SOC tissues. Clinical pathological features of patients with SOC were also evaluated. Colony formation, MTT, wound healing and Transwell assays were conducted to investigate the effects of AK4 on the proliferation, migration, and invasion of SOC cells in vitro. Mouse xenograft and lung metastasis models were developed to evaluate the effects of AK4 on tumor growth and metastasis in vivo. High expression levels of AK4 were identified in human SOC tissues compared with in normal tissues according to TCGA database and the results of IHC assays. A contribution of AK4 to tumor growth and metastasis of SOC cells in vivo was also shown. The present study confirmed the involvement of AK4 in the progression of SOC, and the results indicated that AK4 could serve as a novel therapeutic target for SOC treatment.Thyroid paraganglioma (TP) is an uncommon neuroendocrine tumor with potential for misdiagnosis. Case 1 (male; 44 years old) presented with hoarseness for 3 months. Ruboxistaurin ic50 A 2.5-cm gray nodule in the left thyroid was diagnosed as TP by immunohistochemistry. Lymph node metastasis was confirmed by H&E staining and immunohistochemistry. The patient was followed-up for 3 years without any signs of recurrence or metastasis. Case 2 (female; 39 years old) presented with an asymptomatic but rapidly growing thyroid nodule. The patient underwent thyroidectomy 8 years ago (2008) and was diagnosed with TP postoperatively. The patient was diagnosed with recurrence and exhibited trachea invasion. Thyroidectomy and partial trachea resection were performed. A literature review revealed that 62 other cases of TP have been reported, and most of them exhibited low malignant potential. However, the two cases presented in the current case report exhibited a high malignant potential, accompanied by lymph node metastasis or trachea invasion, and these features imply that the choice of treatment for patients should be based on their different degrees of malignancy.Squamous cell carcinoma of the head and neck (SCCHN) is the most common cancer in Indian men. Docetaxel alone or in combination with other chemotherapeutic agents is recommended for the management of SCCHN. The present multicenter, retrospective study was conducted to evaluate the efficacy and safety of a novel docetaxel formulation 'nanosomal docetaxel lipid suspension (NDLS)'-based chemotherapy in SCCHN. The medical records of patients with SCCHN, who were treated with NDLS-based chemotherapy and followed up between August 2014 and September 2018, were reviewed. The efficacy endpoints were overall response rate [ORR; complete response (CR) + partial response (PR)] and disease control rate (DCR; CR + PR + stable disease) for patients receiving NDLS-based induction or palliative chemotherapy. Overall survival (OS) and safety were also evaluated. Efficacy evaluation was available in 30/34 patients (induction, 20/23; palliative, 10/11). NDLS-based induction chemotherapy showed an ORR and DCR of 95% and a median OS of 43.5 months (follow-up duration, 0.6-80.3 months). For NDLS-based palliative chemotherapy, the ORR and DCR were 50% and the median OS time was 4.6 months (follow-up duration, 1.8 to 14.3 months). At least one adverse event was reported in 82.6% patients. No new safety concerns were reported. Overall, NDLS-based chemotherapy was effective and well tolerated in the treatment of SCCHN.Primary effusion lymphoma (PEL) is a B-cell non-Hodgkin's lymphoma that is usually characterized by lymphomatous effusions in the body cavity without any detectable tumor masses. According to the World Health Organization (WHO) schema for tumor classification, PEL is defined by the presence of human herpesvirus 8 (HHV8) in malignant lymphoid cells. However, a subset of effusion-based B-cell lymphoma is not HHV8-positive and exhibits different clinicopathological characteristics. The 2017 WHO Classification of Tumors of Hematopoietic and Lymphoid Tissues does not list HHV8-negative effusion-based lymphoma, which remains an underappreciated B-cell lymphoma, as an individual entity. The present study reports a case of this rare type of lymphoma with indolent clinical behavior in a 75-year-old male patient receiving only symptomatic treatment. Additionally, a review of similar cases reported in the English literature is presented.Studies are increasingly investigating the association between the gut microbiota and the outcomes of immunotherapy in patients with cancer. Notably, certain studies have demonstrated that the gut microbiota serves a key role in regulating a patient's response to immunotherapy. In the present review, the potential associations between the gut microbiota, and cancer, host immunity and cancer immunotherapy are reviewed. Furthermore, the effects of fecal microbiota transplantation, antibiotics, probiotics, prebiotics, synbiotics, components of traditional Chinese medicine and various lifestyle factors on the gut microbiota and cancer immunotherapy outcomes are discussed. Certain dominant bacterial groups in the context of cancer immunotherapy and certain effective methods for optimizing immunotherapy by regulating the gut microbiota have been identified. Further investigation may enable the rapid conversion of these discoveries into practical products and clinically applicable methods.
