However, information on bZIP transcription factors is not yet available in oil palm, an important oil yielding crop. The present study identified the 97 bZIP transcription factor family members in oil palm genome via a genome-wide approach. Phylogenetic analysis clustered all EgbZIPs into 12 clusters with Arabidopsis and rice bZIPs. EgbZIP gene structure analysis showed a distinct variation in the intron-exon organization among all EgbZIPs. Conserved motif analysis demonstrated the occurrence of ten additional conserved motifs besides having a common bZIP domain. All the identified 97 EgbZIPs were unevenly distributed on 16 chromosomes and exhibited tandem duplication in oil palm genome. Our results aslo demonstrated that tissue-specific expression patterns of EgbZIPs based on the available transcriptome data of six different tissue of oil palm. Stress-responsive expression analysis showed that 11EgbZIP transcription factors were highly expressed under cold, salinity, drought stress conditions. Taken together, our findings will provide insightful information on bZIP transcription factors as one of the stress-responsive regulators in oil palm.

Here, we employed the hindlimb-unloading (HLU) tail suspension model and compared the preventive efficiencies of five agents including alendronate (ALN), raloxifene (Rox), teriparatide (TPTD), anti-murine RANKL monoclonal antibody (anti-RANKL) and proteasome inhibitor bortezomib (Bzb) on mechanical unloading-induced bone loss. Bone mineral density (BMD) was measured by quantitative computed tomography. The osteoblastic and osteoclastic activity were measured by serum ELISA, histology analysis, and histomorphometric analysis.

Compared to the control, ALN and anti-RANKL antibody could restore bone mass close to sham levels by inhibiting bone resorption. Bzb could increase the whole bone mass and strength by inhibiting bone resorption and promoting bone formation simultaneously. Meanwhile, Rox did not affect bone loss caused by HLU. TPTD stimulated cortical bone formation but the total bone mass was not increased significantly.

Esophageal squamous cell carcinoma and lung cancer are two malignant cancers, and their relationship with gut microbiota is still unclear. Virulence factor database (VFDB) is an integrated and comprehensive online resource for curating information about human pathogens. Here, based on VFDB database, we analyzed the differences of bacteria at genus level in the gut of patients with esophageal squamous cell carcinoma, lung cancer, and healthy controls. We proposed the possible cancer-associated bacteria in gut and put forward their possible effects. Apart from this, principal coordinate analysis (PCoA) and analysis of similarities (ANSOIM) suggested that some bacteria in the gut can be used as potential biomarkers to screen esophageal squamous cell carcinoma and lung cancer, and their effectiveness was preliminary verified. The relative abundance of Klebsiella and Streptococcus can be used to distinguish patients with esophageal squamous cell carcinoma and lung cancer from healthy controls. The absolute abundance of Klebsiella can further distinguish patients with esophageal squamous cell carcinoma from patients with lung cancer. In particular, the relative abundance of Fusobacterium can directly distinguish between patients with esophageal squamous cell carcinoma and healthy controls. Additionally, the absolute abundance of Haemophilus can distinguish lung cancer from healthy controls. This study compared the antibody response to Newcastle disease and heat tolerance among different LCN genotypes in hot humid tropics using multivariate discriminant analysis. A total of 299 birds were used for the study. Geometric mean titre against Newcastle disease before vaccination (GMTB), geometric mean titre against Newcastle disease after vaccination (GMTA), rectal temperature at week 4 (RT4), pulse rate at week 4 (PR4), respiratory rate at week 4 (RR4), heat stress index at week 4 (H4), rectal temperature at week 13 (RT13), pulse rate at week 13 (PR13), respiratory rate at week 13 (RR13) and heat stress index at week 13 (H13) were measured. All the traits were significantly (p  less then  0.05) affected by the genotype while sex differences were only observed in GMTB, GMTA and RR13. The stepwise discriminant analysis revealed RR4, PR13, RT13, H4, GMTA, GMTB, H13 and RT4 to be effective in differentiating the three chicken genotypes.
