Two types of naphthalimide derivatives were synthesized by introducing a carbazole group and an n-butyl, respectively, into the naphthalimide system. The electron-donating ability of two kinds of derivatives was investigated by the electrochemical method. These two types of derivatives were used as initiators for the polymerization of d and l-lactide polymerization. Here, the emission and UV-vis absorption serve as the main focus. Compared with solely donor-initiated polylactide (PLA), the PLA with a donor-acceptor structure has a more efficient phosphorescence emission, of which the longest phosphorescence lifetime is up to 407 ms. The experimental results reveal the existence of charge-transfer states in the donor-acceptor-ended polymer. Due to the role of charge-transfer states, a red phosphorescent polymer was developed. Theoretically, these desirable advantages render synthesized PLAs a potential candidate for bioimaging and anti-counterfeiting.Herein, a superhydrophobic surface with superior durability was fabricated on a glass-ceramic surface by crystallization, hydrofluoric acid (HF) etching, and surface grafting. The as-prepared glass-ceramic surface was composed of three-dimensional flower-like micro-clusters, which were self-assembled from numerous nanosheets. Such a dual-scale rough surface exhibited superhydrophobicity, with a water contact angle (WCA) of 170.3° ± 0.1° and a sliding angle (SA) of ~2° after grafting with 1H, 1H, 2H, 2H-perfluorodecyltriethoxysilane (FAS-17). This can be attributed to the synergistic effect between the dual-scale structure and surface chemistry. Furthermore, this surface exhibited excellent self-cleaning properties, stability against strong acid and strong alkali corrosion, and anti-stripping properties. This study aimed to evaluate the effect of needle-like zinc oxide nanostructures (ZnO-NN) on the physical, chemical, and antibacterial properties of experimental methacrylate-based dental sealers. ZnO-NN was synthesized and characterized. ZnO-NN was added to a co-monomer blend at 20, 30, and 40 wt.%. One group without ZnO-NN was used as a control. The dental resin sealers were evaluated for their flow, film thickness, water sorption, solubility, radiopacity, degree of conversion (DC), dental-sealer interface characterization via micro-Raman, and antibacterial activity. ZnO-NN presented a mean needle diameter of 40 nm and 16 m2/g of surface area. There was no difference among groups containing ZnO-NN regarding their flow. The ZnO-NN addition significantly increased the film thickness. Water sorption and solubility tests showed no difference among groups. The radiopacity increased, and DC decreased with higher concentrations of ZnO-NN. Micro-Raman suggested that ZnO-NN was in close contact with root canal dentin. Overall, the incorporation of ZnO-NN provided an antibacterial effect against Enterococcus faecalis without a significant detrimental impact on the physical and chemical functionality of the material. The use of ZnO-NN as an inorganic filler is a potential application within dental materials intended for root canal treatment.Metabotropic γ-aminobutyric acid (GABAB) receptors contribute to the control of network activity and information processing in hippocampal circuits by regulating neuronal excitability and synaptic transmission. The dysfunction in the dentate gyrus (DG) has been implicated in Alzheimer´s disease (AD). Given the involvement of GABAB receptors in AD, to determine their subcellular localisation and possible alteration in granule cells of the DG in a mouse model of AD at 12 months of age, we used high-resolution immunoelectron microscopic analysis. Immunohistochemistry at the light microscopic level showed that the regional and cellular expression pattern of GABAB1 was similar in an AD model mouse expressing mutated human amyloid precursor protein and presenilin1 (APP/PS1) and in age-matched wild type mice. High-resolution immunoelectron microscopy revealed a distance-dependent gradient of immunolabelling for GABAB receptors, increasing from proximal to distal dendrites in both wild type and APP/PS1 mice. However, the overall density of GABAB receptors at the neuronal surface of these postsynaptic compartments of granule cells was significantly reduced in APP/PS1 mice. Parallel to this reduction in surface receptors, we found a significant increase in GABAB1 at cytoplasmic sites. GABAB receptors were also detected at presynaptic sites in the molecular layer of the DG. We also found a decrease in plasma membrane GABAB receptors in axon terminals contacting dendritic spines of granule cells, which was more pronounced in the outer than in the inner molecular layer. Altogether, our data showing post- and presynaptic reduction in surface GABAB receptors in the DG suggest the alteration of the GABAB-mediated modulation of excitability and synaptic transmission in granule cells, which may contribute to the cognitive dysfunctions in the APP/PS1 model of AD.For potato proteins to be used as a food ingredient, the level of natural potato defense substances, the glycoalkaloids (GAs), should be limited. In this work, a method is developed for quantification of the two major potato GAs, α-solanine and α-chaconine, as well as for their aglycon form, solanidine, using liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry single quadrupole in single ion monitoring mode. Standard solutions of GA and a food-grade potato protein powder was used to validate the method. A linear correlation between GA concentration and the ion intensity of >0.995 was obtained for all standard solutions. Recovery of GA in spiked samples was within the range 82%-106%. The method for GA quantification was applied to a variety of potato protein isolates. The results showed that total GA increased during the storage of the potatoes. Washing the potato protein isolates using water at a sufficient level was shown to be able to reduce the amount of GA below the threshold of 150 µg g-1, as needed for human consumption. In this article a novel method of positional data integration in an indoor hybrid localization system combining inertial navigation with radio distance measurements is presented. A point of interest is the situation when the positional data and the radio distance measurements are obtained from less than thee reference nodes and it is impossible to unambiguously localize the moving person due to undetermined set of positional equations. The presented method allows to continuously provide localization service even in areas with disturbed propagation of the radio signals. Authors performed simulation and measurement studies of the proposed method to verify the precision of position estimation of a moving person in an indoor environment. It is worth noting that to determine the simulation parameters and realize the experimental studies the hybrid localization system demonstrator was developed, combining inertial navigation and radio distance measurements. C-176 In the proposed solution, results of distance measurements taken to less than three reference nodes are used to compensate the drift of the position estimated using the inertial sensor.
