37; 95% CI, 2.33-23.32 in men and OR, 2.36; 95% CI, 1.04-5.36 in women) after adjusting for confounding variables. Conclusion From this nationwide, population-based study, we found that living alone is associated with increased odds of currently smoking, especially in middle-aged people. Public health concerns may be warranted for middle-aged single-person households to reduce health risks related to smoking.Small nucleolar RNA host genes (SNHGs) as a subset of long noncoding RNAs (lncRNAs) have critical roles in the pathogenesis of multiple malignancies, however, the role and molecular mechanisms of lncRNA SNHG8 in osteosarcoma (OS) remain unclear. In the present study, the correlation of SNHG8 or miR-542-3p with clinicopathological elements and prognosis in OS patents was estimated by TCGA cohort. Cell viability and invasion were assessed by MTT and Transwell assays. The interplay between SNHG8 and miR-542-3p was affirmed by a luciferase report assay. The effects of SNHG8 on miR-542-3p expression were examined in MG-63 and SW-1353 cells by qRT-PCR analysis. The results showed that incremental expression of SNHG8 or reduced expression of miR-542-3p was related to poor survival and tumor recurrence in OS patients. Overexpressing SNHG8 accelerated the growth and invasion of MG-63 cells, but silencing SNHG8 harbored an opposite effect in SW-1353 cells. Additionally, SNHG8 could negatively regulate miR-542-3p expression and bind with miR-542-3p, which attenuated SNHG8 induced cell proliferation. Taken together, these findings indicate that lncRNA SNHG8 promotes the proliferation of OS cells by downregulating miR-542-3p.Background/aims Emotional distress is thought to cause or maintain chronic urticaria (CU). We aimed to investigate the presence of anxiety, depression, and stress in Korean adult CU patients and to explore their potential impact on treatment. Methods We enrolled 79 CU patients and a disease control group comprising 39 persistent asthma patients. The Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale (HADS) was used to evaluate depression and anxiety. Stress and quality of life (QoL) were assessed by Stress Response Inventory and CU-QoL questionnaires. The sociodemographic and clinical data such as urticaria activity score (UAS-15, UAS-6) were obtained. Results The prevalence of depression and anxiety based on the HADS were 48.1% and 38.0%. Although the prevalence of anxiety didn't differ between the CU and asthma patients, depression was significantly more prevalent in the CU patients (48.1% vs. 28.2%). Stress tended to be lower in CU patients. Anxiety, depression, and stress exhibited negative correlations with QoL. Anxiety showed significant correlation with UAS-6 and pruritus-visual analog scale (VAS; r = 0.256, r = 0.272, p less then 0.05, respectively); depression correlated with sleep difficulty-VAS (r = 0.261, p less then 0.05). Stress was associated with UAS-15, UAS-6, pruritus-VAS, and sleep difficulty-VAS (r = 0.251, r = 0.317, r = 0.302, r = 0.258, p less then 0.05, respectively). Conclusions The current study first presented that Korean CU patients frequently have anxiety and depression, which affect their QoL and demonstrated that anxiety, depression, and stress had different effects on sleep difficulty, pruritus, and urticaria severity in Korean CU patients.Purpose We applied a low-dose fluoroscopic protocol in routine diagnostic cerebral angiography and evaluated the feasibility of the protocol. Materials and methods We retrospectively reviewed a total of 60 patients who underwent diagnostic cerebral angiography for various neurovascular diseases from September to November 2019. Routine protocols were used for patients in the first phase and low-dose protocols in the second phase. We compared radiation dose, fluoroscopy time, and complications between groups. Results Age, diseases, and operators were not significantly different between the two groups. The mean fluoroscopy dose significantly decreased by 52% in the low-dose group (3.09 vs. 6.38 Gy·cm2 ); however, the total dose was not significantly different between the two groups (34.07 vs. 33.70 Gy·cm2 ). The total fluoroscopic time was slightly longer in the low-dose group, but the difference was not statistically significant (12.2. vs. 12.5 minutes). In all patients, angiography was successfully performed without complications. Conclusion The low-dose fluoroscopy protocol is feasible to apply for diagnostic cerebral angiography in that this protocol could significantly reduce the fluoroscopic dose.Irreversible electroporation (IRE) is a novel form of soft tissue ablation therapy that uses highcurrent electrical pulses to induce the formation of pores in the cell membrane, leading to cell death. Although outcome data for the ablation of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) by IRE are limited, early results are encouraging and may suggest equivalency to the outcomes achieved by thermal ablation methods such as radiofrequency ablation (RFA) and microwave ablation (MWA). However, IRE can be a challenging and very time-consuming procedure compared to RFA and MWA. In this review article, we not only evaluate the efficacy and safety of IRE for the treatment of HCC, but also discuss imaging guidance, ablation monitoring, and endpoint assessment, with a particular focus on ultrasonography.Purpose In a minority of cases, the transfemoral approach cannot be performed due to unfavorable anatomical barriers. In such cases, direct common carotid artery puncture (DCCAP) is an important alternative for rescue mechanical thrombectomy. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the efficacy and safety of DCCAP in patients with an unaccessible femoral route for mechanical thrombectomy. Materials and methods This is a retrospective study using data in the Turkish Interventional Neurology Database recorded between January 2015 and April 2019. Twenty-five acute stroke patients treated with DCCAP were analyzed in this study. Among 25 cases with carotid puncture, 4 cases were excluded due to an aborted thrombectomy attempt resulting from unsuccessful sheath placement. Results Patients had a mean age of 69±12 years. The average National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale score was 16±4. Successful revascularization (modified Thrombolysis In Cerebral Infarction 2b-3) rate was 86% (18/21), and 90-day good functional outcome rate (modified Rankin Scale 0-2) was 38% (8/21). Conclusion DCCAP is a rescue alternative for patients with unfavorable access via the transfemoral route. Timely switching to DCCAP is crucial in these cases.Congenital cataract is a common eye disease that seriously affects the visual development of infants and children. Nearly 30% of cases have cataract-linked, inherited mutations. With the development of molecular genetics, especially gentechnik, more and more genes, such as crystallin genes, membrane protein genes, transcription factors and cytoskeletal protein genes, have been confirmed to be associated with the onset of congenital cataract. There have been many studies on crystallin genes, but studies on the pathogenesis of membrane protein genes have gradually been emphasized as well in recent years. Furthermore, major intrinsic protein (MIP) genes belong to membrane protein genes, and the MIP translated by them accounts for about 50% of the total cell membrane proteins. It has been found that more than twenty mutations in MIP genes participate in the development of congenital cataract. How do these mutations further affect the cellular function and eventually lead to cataract? The recent progression about inherited congenital cataract related with MIP genes at the levels of genes and proteins is summarized in this review. Methods Experiment research. A rapid and substantial elevation of intraocular pressure was performed to establish an acute hypertensive glaucoma model, and retinal thickness was assessed at 1, 3, 5, and 7 days. The mice were then randomly divided into three groups normal control group, hypertension group, and baicalin (50 mg/kg) for hypertension group. The effects of baicalin on the RGCs were evaluated by retrograde transporting of Fluoro-Gold. The mRNA levels of tumor necrosis factor-α, interleukine-1β (IL-1β), and inducible nitric oxide synthase were detected by real-time PCR, and the protein levels were measured by Western blot in the retina tissue of acute hypertensive glaucoma model. Purified primary RGC survival under OGD/R stress was measured by flow cytometry, which wad from 51.53%±1.36% to 69.37%±7.09% and 66.23%±4.25% with 5.0, 10.0 μmol/L baicalin administration (t=5.50, 4.53; both P less then 0.01). BV2 under OGD/R stress did extra damage to RGCs, and baicalin could reverse the damages and increase the survival from 69.37%±7.09% to 73.00%±5.20% (t=2.82, P=0.048) by reducing the release of IL-1β [(39.97±8.76) pg/ml vs. (61.33±5.78) pg/ml, t=4.19, P=0.010]. Conclusion Baicalin could alleviate retina tissue injury directly and promote the survival of RGCs by downregulating the expression of inflammatory cytokines and protecting RGCs from ischemia reperfusion injury. Data of 48 patients (48 eyes) with ocular injuries caused by chestnut burrs hospitalized in Qingdao Eye Hospital were collected from January 2013 to March 2019. All patients were followed up for at least 3 months. The time of seeking medical advice, lesion region, and characteristics and treatment methods were analyzed. Results There were 48 patients, including 33 males and 15 females, aged 19 to 74 years [mean, (56±10) years]. The time of injury was late September (25 cases) and early October (23 cases). The shortest time to visit our hospital was 3 hours after injury, and the longest was 8 months after injury. There were 13 cases (27.1%, 13/48) with corneal and/or scleral foreign bodies. All patients were treated with corneal or scleral foreign body extraction. Twenty-four patients (50.0%, 24/48) developed fungal keratitis. Among them, 18 patients had a corneal un bodies should be removed as soon as possible. In the case of fungal keratitis, a drug or surgical intervention should be carried out as early as possible. Necrotizing scleritis is often induced by long-term foreign body retention. Scleral incision and exploration is an effective form of treatment. (Chin J Ophthalmol, 2020, 56 370-375).Objective To analyze the pathological classification and age distribution of primary neoplasms of the lacrimal drainage system. Methods Retrospective case series study. A total of 64 patients (65 eyes) were diagnosed with primary neoplasms of the lacrimal drainage system and received surgery at Tianjin Eye Hospital from January 2006 to December 2016. All the clinical data of the patients were analyzed, including gender, diseased eye, age, clinical manifestations, composition of benign and malignant masses, and prognosis. The histopathological composition and age distribution of patients with primary lacrimal mass, lacrimal duct mass and lacrimal sac mass were analyzed according to the different diseased sites. Results Twenty-three patients (24 eyes) were male, and 41 patients (41 eyes) were female. Cyclopamine supplier The right eye was involved in 36 patients, the left eye in 27 patients, and both eyes in one patient. The age at diagnosis ranged from 12 to 78 years old [mean, (46±4) years]. The course of disease was (13.1±4.2) months, ranging from 1 month to 7 years.
