MicroRNA(miR)-340 is known as a multifunctional miRNA related to various types of cancer while its role in renal cell carcinoma (RCC) remains to be further investigated. In the present study, an apparent increase in miR-340 expression was observed in both clear cell RCC tissues and RCC cell line 786-O and Caki-1. Functionally, the overexpression of miR-340 promoted cell proliferation, migration, invasion, extracellular alanine (Ala) level, and glycolysis level in 786-O cells. Then, frizzled class receptor 3 (FZD3) was determined as the target gene of miR-340 and its expression level was negatively regulated by miR-340. The FZD3 silencing abrogated the inhibitory effect of miR-340 knockdown on cell proliferation, migration, invasion, Ala level, and glycolysis level in 786-O cells. In conclusion, miR-340 promotes proliferation, migration, and invasion of RCC cells via suppressing FZD3 expression, and the promotion effect of miR-340 on RCC progression may be due to its regulatory effect on glycolysis and Ala level.Nickel (Ni) is a frequently used metal in the production of many products, and Ni exposure occurs in humans through food, inhalation, and skin. Studies reported Ni as the most common allergen diagnosed in the serial patch test. The main purpose of our study was to determine the concentration of Ni and other elements in the urine samples of individuals with Ni-sensitivity and to determine the effect of lifestyle habits on these variables. This study was conducted with 388 participants; additionally, both Ni patch test and inorganic analysis (for 24 elements) method in urine with inductively coupled plasma-mass spectrometry (ICP-MS) were applied to all participants. Ninety-two (23.7%) of the participants were found to have nickel sensitivity with a mean urine concentration of 4.475 μg/g creatinine (median=4.260; SD=2.527). The urine nickel concentration was significantly different between female and male participants (p =0.001). We found a significant correlation between Ni and other metals alongside various element pairs. The mean urine Ni concentration of the individuals with a positive Ni sensitivity test result was not different from that of the participants without Ni sensitivity (4.475 vs 4.256 μg/g creatinine, respectively; p = 0.068). The high accuracy, recovery, and repeatability data obtained from the analyses indicate that this study is efficient and appropriate for the quantitative determination of nickel and other elements in urine samples. Ni-containing objects and Ni-rich foods should be of concern for individuals with hypersensitivity reactions to the element.
To compare the therapeutic effect of different animal bile powders on lipid metabolism disorders induced by high-fat diet in rats, and analyze the bioactive components of each animal bile powder.

Sixty Sprague-Dawley rats were randomly divided into 6 groups (n=10) normal diet control group, high-fat diet model group, high-fat diet groups orally treated with bear, pig, cow and chicken bile powders, respectively. Serum biochemical markers from the abdominal aorta in each group were analyzed. Changes in the body weight and liver weight were recorded. Pathohistological changes in the livers were examined. High performance liquid chromatography coupled with quadrupole time-of-flight tandem mass spectrometry was used to determine the composition of bioactive components in each animal bile powder.

Treatment with different types of animal bile powders had different inhibitory effects on high-fat diet-induced increase of body weight and/or liver weight in rats, most notably in bear and pig bile powders (P<0.0types of animal bile with a novel compound identified only in bear bile powder.

Bioactive compositions were different in different types of animal bile with a novel compound identified only in bear bile powder.
Sleep problems are common among chronic pain patients who take opioids. There are documented effects of opioids on sleep architecture; however, the long-term effects of opioids on sleep remain unknown. This study examined whether opioid-naïve participants have better sleep quality than current and previous chronic users of opioids. We also explored whether sleep differed between methadone and buprenorphine users, and whether amount of time since abstaining from opioids was associated with sleep quality.

Participants were 120 people with chronic pain (84.2% Caucasian, M
= 42.0years, SD = 11.44). They were in one of four groups of 30 participants each (1) current users of methadone for opioid use disorder (OUD); (2) current users of buprenorphine for OUD; (3) a history of medication-assisted therapy for OUD but currently opioid-abstinent for at least 6months; (4) those who have less than one month of cumulative lifetime opioids (opioid-naïve group). Only participants in group 1 and group 2 were taking opihat opioids interfere with sleep quality, even after months of abstention. Further research into the long-term effects of opioids is warranted and may contribute further to the importance of addressing sleep problems in this population.
To evaluate the incidence of internal carotid artery (ICA) stenosis and cerebrovascular accident in a series of patients treated with stereotactic radiosurgery (SRS) for recurrent or residual pituitary adenoma.

All patients treated with single fraction SRS in our institution for recurrent or residual non-functioning-, growth hormone- and ACTH-secreting pituitary adenomas were retrospectively identified and reviewed. A comprehensive literature review to identify studies reporting on ICA steno-occlusive disease following SRS for pituitary adenomas and compare the risks of carotid stenosis and ischemic stroke in the SRS treated group to the general population figures.

528 patients [312 women and 216 men; median age at SRS 46years old (range 12-80years)] treated with SRS at our institution met study inclusion criteria. Mean clinical and radiologic follow-ups were 68.87 (SD ± 43.29) and 55.99months (SD ± 38.03), respectively, and there were no clinically evident cerebral ischemic events noted. check details Asymptomatic, post-SRS, ICA stenosis occurred in two patients. A total of eight patients with ICA steno-occlusive disease following pituitary adenoma radiosurgery have been reported. Two of them suffered from ischemic stroke with however excellent recovery.

As compared to the general population, SRS for pituitary adenomas does not seem to confer appreciable increased risk for ICA steno-occlusive disease and ischemic stroke. However, post-SRS radiation vessel injuries do occur and physicians should be aware about this rare event. Prompt identification and management according to current guidelines are essential to prevent ischemic strokes.

In Japan, the number of infected people has incrementally increased since April 2020. The COVID-19 pandemic has exerted a major impact not only on our daily lives but also on healthcare. As the infection continues to spread, many medical institutions have devoted all efforts to minimize the risk of infection not only for patients but also for medical personnel by prioritizing medical care, reserving treatment, and extending consultation intervals. Cancer treatment is one of the priorities for medical care even during an epidemic infection as there is a concern of decreasing curability or therapeutic effect from postponement. As the COVID-19 situation evolves rapidly, we created an informative triage to provide appropriate medical treatment to breast cancer patients. In this triage, we offer guidance on preparing for the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic in breast cancer patients, prioritizing triage and diagnostic procedures, and providing advice on surgical, radiation, and oncological treatments.Hardly any research has been conducted regarding coping strategies that children can use in response to negative news, although they are frequently exposed to and emotionally affected by such news. Chat conversations with peers about the news could be a coping strategy for children in this regard. To investigate this, children (N = 307; 46.3% girls; Mage = 10.51; SDage = 0.98; range 8-13 years old) participated in a preregistered experiment in which their emotions were measured before and after exposure to a news video on a smartphone and also after a postexposure activity (i.e., chatting about the news as an experimental condition versus chatting about something else or solving a puzzle as control conditions). The results showed that the decrease in negative emotions and the increase in positive emotions were weaker for children who chatted about the news than for those in the control conditions. Thus, seeking social support in online chat conversations did not have the anticipated effect-and might even have an adverse effect.
Recent studies have demonstrated that genes related to bitter taste receptors (TAS2Rs) on various chromosomes are expressed in extra-oral organs of various animals. The bitter taste receptor TAS2R14 is conserved among primate species and shows broad ligand sensitivity. Mice have a number of orthologues to primate TAS2R14 located in tandem on chromosome 16; however, their expression patterns are not unique.

We characterized the expression of TAS2R14 in various cell types in the intestines of the rhesus macaque and evaluated its role in hormone production in the gut.

TAS2R14 expression was examined in the intestines of rhesus macaques, a common non-human primate model, by RT-qPCR and immunohistochemical staining.

Mean expression levels of TAS2R14 in the duodenum, ileum, and colon were similar to each other and were lower than those in circumvallate papillae. An immunohistochemical analysis revealed TAS2R14 immunoreactivity in enteroendocrine cells positive for cholecystokinin, serotonin, and the G protein GNAT3.

These results suggest that primate TAS2R14 is broadly expressed in the intestine, mainly in enteroendocrine cells, and promotes gut hormone secretion in response to bitter stimuli.

Rice (Oryza sativa L.) is an important crop and a staple food for half of the population around the world. The recent water and labor shortages are encouraging farmers to shift from traditional transplanting to direct-seeding. However, poor germination and slow elongation of the coleoptile constrains large-scale application of direct-seeding.

This study was aimed to investigate the genetic basis of the anaerobic germination (AG) potential using a set of Oryza nivara (O. nivara) introgression lines (ILs).

In this study, a total of 131 ILs were developed by introducing O. nivara chromosome segments into the elite indica rice variety 93-11 through advanced backcrossing and repeated selfing. A high-density genetic map has been previously constructed with 1,070 bin-markers. The seeds of ILs were germinated and used to measure coleoptile length under normal and anaerobic conditions. QTLs associated with AG potential were determined in rice.

Based on the high-density genetic map of the IL population, two QTLs, qAGP1 and qAGP3 associated with AG tolerance were characterized and located on chromosomes 1 and 3, respectively.
