Pancreatitis in children with acute lymphoblastic leukemia and acute myeloid leukemia may cause discontinuation of chemotherapy, thus adversely affecting treatment outcomes. Enteral nutrition (EN) is recommended for acute pancreatitis. The optimal use of EN for leukemia-related pancreatitis is under debate. The aim of this study was to determine the clinical efficacy of EN for children with leukemia-related pancreatitis.

Medical records of 53 children with characteristics of leukemia-related pancreatitis were abstracted retrospectively. Considering specific outcome variables, the EN-associated factors improving treatment were analyzed. Enzyme and albumin changes during the 14-day follow-up period were also analyzed, to test for the safety of EN.

Early EN was found to be a protective factor from secondary infection and significant weight loss. Jejunal EN was related to higher risk for enzyme elevation relapse compared with oral EN. Patients with severe pancreatitis had lower risk for significant weight loss but higher risk for abnormal glucose levels than their counterparts. EN type had a significant effect on lipase change, and early EN had interactive effects by time on amylase and lipase changes.

Early EN within 7.5 days could reduce the risk for secondary infection and significant weight loss for pediatric leukemia-related pancreatitis, with decreased serum amylase and lipase levels, in a safe and effective manner. Beneficial effects of EN within 72 h were not observed.

Increased professional commitment is essential for relieving the nursing workforce shortage, which is exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic. The professional commitment of graduating nursing students is a powerful predictor of their work commitment. However, limited information is available regarding graduating nursing students' professional commitment. Existing studies investigating nursing students' professional commitment are limited by their lack of theoretical foundation.

Salutogenesis is a resource-oriented approach that focuses on health creation. With the shift in focus from healthcare to health, there is a need to develop salutogenic inquiry and capacity of future nurses to promote good health and well-being in the community.

This study explored nursing students' perspectives on utilising the salutogenic theory in the community for health promotion, including the scope, perceived benefits, and challenges of theory application.

Data were gathered from four focus group discussions (n=18) and 32 students' written assignments. They were analysed based on five components of knowledge framework.

Four themes were identified re-orienting healthcare for healthy living communities; ambivalent learning experiences; attracting early adopters of salutogenic paradigm; and practices for positive health development in complex systems future directions. Findings reflected the value, versatility, and usefulness of introducing the salutogenic paradigm into the curriculum of healthcare education. Practical know-hows of applying the theory in community practice and development of health intervention were elicited.

Much work is needed to future-proof the next generation of nurses in embracing and unifying the concept of salutogenic science into the existing pathogenic-driven care model. The real challenge would be the continual support of nursing education and health system to provide salutogenic care in the community.

Endogenous Jaagsiekte sheep retrovirus envelope protein (enJSRV-Env) plays an important role in trophoblast cell fusion in sheep. However, the underlying mechanism remains unclear.

Primary endometrial luminal epithelial cells (LECs) were isolated from the sheep uterus and cocultured with sheep trophoblast cells (STCs). Giemsa staining was conducted to count multinucleated cells in the coculture system. Gain- and loss-of-function assays were performed to explore the role of enJSRV-Env in trophoblast cell fusion in the coculture system. Navitoclax Co-immunoprecipitation and mass spectrometry were carried out to identify the interacting partner of enJSRV-Env in the cocultures. Western blot analysis were conducted to determine the activation of protein kinase A (PKA)/mitogen-activated extracellular signal-regulated kinase (MEK)/extracellular signal-regulated kinase 1/2 (ERK1/2) signaling.

Primary LECs were identified by the expression of epithelial marker cytokeratin 18. Overexpression of enJSRV-Env promoted the formation of multinucleated cells in the coculture system. enJSRV-Env activated and physically interacted with PKA, along with the activation of MEK/ERK1/2 signaling. PKA inhibition completely reversed enJSRV-Env-induced MEK/ERK1/2 activation, and ERK1/2 inhibition abolished enJSRV-Env-induced formation of multinucleated cells in the coculture system.

Apart from serving as an energy source in the intestines, SCFAs also inhibit autophagy, nucleotide-binding oligomerization domain-containing protein, LRR, and pyrin domain-containing protein 3 inflammasome. SCFAs provide numerous therapeutic benefits through their influence on cognitive functioning and neurodegenerative diseases (NDD) pathophysiology. Additionally, NDDs are associated with abnormalities in the gut microbiota, including an increased load of pathogens and opportunistic microbes. SCFAs maintain the healthy mitochondrial function and stimulate the maturation of microglia, which consequently suppresses the progression of NDD and cognitive decline by regulating inflammation and oxidative stress. Basically, SCFAs function as cofactors for the host's mitochondrial enzymes and are being studied for their ability to reverse the alteration in the gut microbiota seen in many NDDs and cardiac diseases. In the present review, the focus is on the detrimental and beneficial roles of SCFAs in NDD, emphasizing the effects of SCFA on following phenomenon (1) alteration in gut microbiota profile associated with NDD, (2) the molecular mechanism of metabolic regulation by SCFA's, and its co-relation with NDD, (3) use of mitochondrial antioxidants as a strategy for maintaining microbiota diversity in the gut, and (4) the future direction of metabolism and neurodegeneration in the gut-brain axis. In addition, the interplay between gut microbiota, SCFAs, epithelial barrier, and neuroimmune signaling in neurodegeneration has been reviewed.Poverty is known to be associated with poorer child mental wellbeing. Relatedly, the security and quality of employment are reported to affect adult wellbeing. Less is known about how both poverty and parental employment affect children's mental wellbeing. This paper uses nine waves (2005/06-2017/18) of the Growing Up in Scotland (GUS) study to examine how the longitudinal trajectories of poverty and work intensity are associated with the longitudinal trajectories of mental wellbeing in a nationally representative sample of 3994 children (ages 0 to 12). This analysis was conducted via a bivariate multilevel non-linear growth curve model for the widely used Strengths and Difficulties Questionnaire (SDQ) subscales of conduct problems and emotional symptoms. Results show that unstable work intensity and poverty trajectories arising from the 2008 financial crisis are associated with substantial changes in the trajectories of conduct and emotional problems, but with key differences between the individual outcomes increasing work intensity is associated with around a fifth of a standard deviation increase in conduct problems; decreasing work intensity over time is associated with around a fifth of a standard deviation increase in emotional problems; material deprivation is associated with an increase in both conduct and emotional problems, at around a tenth of a standard deviation; and longitudinal income poverty trajectories are associated with up to around a fifth of a standard deviation increase in conduct problems, but not emotional symptoms. These findings are discussed with the purpose of informing policies to tackle the effects of unstable and/or changing socioeconomic circumstances on children's mental health wellbeing in the context of an economic crisis, as well as its implications for the contemporary socioeconomic landscape and the devastating effects expected of the COVID-19 crisis.The synergistic effect between transition metal active centers and the generation of multiple removal pathways has a significant impact on the catalytic activation efficiency of peroxymonosulfate. In this work, a kind of composite catalyst was prepared by growing VCo-metal-organic frameworks (VCo-MOF) in-situ on the surface of Ti3C2Tx by a solvothermal method. The morphology and structure are characterized by Transmission Electron Microscope (TEM), Energy Dispersion Spectrum (EDS), Atomic Force Microscope (AFM), etc. Response surface methodology was used to optimize the experimental conditions. Only 5 mg catalyst can be used to effectively activate PMS and remove 96.14 % ciprofloxacin (CIP, 20 mg/L) within 30 min. The removal effect of catalyst on CIP in different actual water environment was explored. In addition, the fluorescence spectrum test also verified the effective removal of ciprofloxacin. V-Co-Ti ternary system provides a wealth of active sites for CIP removal. Cyclic voltammetry (CV) and lear sweep voltammetry (LSV) tests showed the existence of the electron transfer pathway.
