This study proposes a new cement mortar incorporating damping aggregate (DA) and investigates the mechanical properties and damping property of the cement mortar. Four types of DA were prepared, lightweight aggregate presaturated water and three types of polymer emulsion. Further, the effects of polypropylene fiber and rubber powder on the performance of the cement mortar were studied. The experimental results showed that the damping ratio of specimens containing 70% DA was approximately three times higher than that of the reference mortar, with a slight decrease in the mechanical properties. Adding fiber was more effective than rubber powder in improving the damping ratio of the cement mortar, and the optimal dosage of fiber was 0.5%.Sirex noctilio F. (Hymenoptera Siricidae Siricinae), a new invasive species in China, is a significant international forestry pest which, transported via logs and related wood packing materials, has led to environmental damage and substantial economic loss in many countries around the world. It was first detected in China in 2013, and since then infestations have been found in 18 additional sites. Using a 322 bp fragment of the mitochondrial barcode gene COI, we studied the genetic diversity and structure of S. noctilio populations in both native and invaded ranges, with a specific focus in China. Twelve haplotypes were found across the native and invaded distribution of the pest, of which three were dominant; among these there were only one or two mutational steps between each pair of haplotypes. No obvious genetic structure was found other than in Chinese populations. China has a unique and dominant haplotype not found elsewhere, and compared with the rest of the world, the genetic structure of Chinese populations suggested a multiple invasion scenario.Lonicera caerulea L., also known as haskap or honeysuckle berry, is a fruit commonly planted in eastern Europe, Canada and Asia. CD532 The fruit was registered as a traditional food from a third country under European Union regulations only on December 2018. It is resistant to cold, pests, various soil acidities and diseases. However, its attractiveness is associated mostly with its health properties. The fruit shows anticancer, anti-inflammatory, and antioxidant activity-important factors in improving health. These features result from the diverse content of phytochemicals in honeysuckle berries with high concentrations of phytocompounds, mainly hydroxycinnamic acids, hydroxybenzoic acids, flavanols, flavones, isoflavones, flavonols, flavanones and anthocyanins but also iridoids, present in the fruit in exceptional amounts. The content and health properties of the fruit were identified to be dependent on cultivar, genotype and the place of harvesting. Great potential benefits of this nutritious food are its ability to minimize the negative effects of UV radiation, diabetes mellitus and neurodegenerative diseases, and to exert hepato- and cardioprotective activity. This study aimed to determine the association between statins and the prevention of dementia according to sex differences in elderly patients with ischemic heart disease (IHD). We performed a nationwide retrospective cohort study using the Korean Health Insurance Review and Assessment Service database (2007-2015). Among the 264,036 eligible patients aged ≥65 years with IHD, statin users were compared with non-users by propensity score matching at a 11 ratio (71,587 in each group). The primary outcome was dementia risk by estimating hazard ratios (HRs) and 95% confidence intervals (CIs). Differential risks of dementia were assessed by sex in the subgroups of statin types, exposure duration, and patient age, implying that sex is an influential factor for the link between statin use and dementia incidence. Among seven commonly prescribed statins, rosuvastatin was associated with the greatest preventive effect on dementia incidence, with an adjusted HR of 0.82 (95% CI = 0.78-0.87). In a subgroup analysis organized by sex, the differential risk of dementia incidence was assessed in each statin group, implying that sex is an influential factor for the link between statin and dementia. This study suggests that appropriate statin use considering sex differences may have beneficial effects on the development of dementia. In this study, a new double pulse waveform-generating test system with an integrated magnetorheological (MR) damper is proposed. Since the total shear stress of MR fluid can be varied according to the shape of particles, sphere-like iron particles-based MR fluid is filled into the MR damper. The test system consists of a velocity generator, three masses (impact, test, and dummy), a spring, and an MR damper. To tune the double pulse waveform profile, a damping force model is constructed to determine the fundamental parameters of the simulator. Then, the first and second shock waveform profiles are analyzed to solve the governing equation of motions representing the damping force and velocity. The mathematical model of the MR damper is formulated and applied to a simulator with a graphical user interface programmed using MATLAB. The effectiveness of the proposed simulator-featuring controllable MR damper is demonstrated by comparing the simulation and experimental results.Ovarian cancer (OC) is one of the deadliest cancers among women contributing to high risk of mortality, mainly owing to delayed detection. There is no specific biomarker for its detection in early stages. However, recent findings show that over-expression of specificity protein 1 (Sp1) is involved in many OC cases. The ubiquitous transcription of Sp1 apparently mediates the maintenance of normal and cancerous biological processes such as cell growth, differentiation, angiogenesis, apoptosis, cellular reprogramming and tumorigenesis. Sp1 exerts its effects on cellular genes containing putative GC-rich Sp1-binding site in their promoters. A better understanding of the mechanisms underlying Sp1 transcription factor (TF) regulation and functions in OC tumorigenesis could help identify novel prognostic markers, to target cancer stem cells (CSCs) by following cellular reprogramming and enable the development of novel therapies for future generations. In this review, we address the structure, function, and biology of Sp1 in normal and cancer cells, underpinning the involvement of Sp1 in OC tumorigenesis.
