Subarachnoid haemorrhage (SAH), secondary to spinal hemangioblastoma (HBL), is extremely rare, with only a few case reports to date. We report the experience of our reference centre for spinal tumours and Von Hippel-Lindau (VHL) disease in patients with spinal HBL presenting with SAH. We further performed a systematic review of the literature.
We report two cases. A systematic search was performed using the PubMed, Embase and Cochrane databases, with no limit for publication date. Inclusion criteria were patients with HBL presenting with SAH, with or without VHL. The systematic review retrieved only 10 studies, including 16 patients.
In our centre, the first case concerned radicular HBL at D12 level, presenting with spinal and brain SAH. The patient underwent uneventful microsurgical en bloc resection. Postoperative course was normal. The second case concerned HBL with SAH at the cervico-medullary junction, with rapidly fatal course. The systematic review revealed female predominance, at a median age of 40 years, with HBL predominantly located at cervical level, common preoperative symptoms being headache and signs of meningeal irritation.
In conclusion, spinal HBL is an extremely rare cause of SAH. The systematic review found putative risk factors female gender, age 40-50 years, cervical location, and median size 2cm. Diagnosis can be difficult when presentation mimics intracerebral SAH. We advocate early surgical removal. The risk of rapidly fatal course, in case of major haemorrhage, needs to be borne in mind.

More recently, we have demonstrated that FAM122A is essential for maintaining the growth of hepatocellular carcinoma cells, in which we unexpectedly found that FAM122A deletion increases γH2AX protein level, suggesting that FAM122A may participate in the regulation of DNA homeostasis or stability. In this study, we continued to investigate the potential role of FAM122A in DNA damage and/or repair. We found that CRISPR/Cas9-mediated FAM122A deletion enhances endogenous DNA damages in cancer cells but not in normal cells, demonstrating a significant increase in γH2AX protein and foci formation of γH2AX and 53BP1, as well as DNA breaks by comet assay. Further, we found that FAM122A deletion greatly increases TOP2α protein level, and significantly and specifically enhances TOP2 poisons (etoposide and doxorubicin)-induced DNA damage effects in cancer cells. Moreover, FAM122A is found to be interacted with TOP2α, instead of TOP2β. However, FAM122A knockout doesn't affect the intracellular ROS levels and the process of DNA repair after removal of etoposide with short-term stimulation, suggesting that FAM122A deletion-enhanced DNA damage does not result from endogenous overproduction of ROS and/or impairment of DNA repair ability. Collectively, our study provides the first demonstration that FAM122A is critical for maintaining DNA stability probably by modulating TOP2α protein, and FAM122A deletion combined with TOP2-targeted drugs may represent a potential novel chemotherapeutic strategy for cancer patients.Ultrahigh resolution mass spectrometry is widely used for nontargeted analysis of complex environmental and biological mixtures, such as dissolved organic matter, due to its unparalleled ability to provide accurate mass measurements. Accurate and efficient characterization of these mixtures is critical to being better able to evaluate their effect on human health and climate. This characterization requires accurate mass signals free from isobaric interferences, instrument noise, and mass measurement biases, allowing for molecular formula identification. To address this need, an open source post-processing pipeline for ultrahigh resolution mass spectra of environmental complex mixtures software was developed. MFAssignR contains functions that perform noise estimation, 13C and 34S polyisotopic mass filtering, mass measurement recalibration, and molecular formula assignment as part of a consistent data processing environment. Novel applications of mass defect analysis were used in the functions for noise estimaticient analysis of environmental complex mixtures. selleck compound MFAssignR is publicly available via GitHub.A composite adsorbent for the removal of radioactive cesium (137Cs) was synthesized by immobilizing potassium cobalt ferrocyanide in the micro pores of the zeolite chabazite. The synthetically optimized composite adsorbent demonstrates a rapid cesium adsorption rate under both salt-free and high-salt conditions with a high distribution coefficient of cesium (≥105 mL/g). Although both components have the same ion-exchange reaction between potassium and cesium, the reaction by ferrocyanide component was predominant, which derived hundred times higher distribution coefficient of the composite adsorbent than that of pure chabazite. A thermal stabilization process was studied for improving the storage and/or disposal stability of the spent adsorbent. The formation of a eutectic system within the spent adsorbent reduced the stabilization temperature to 1000 °C from 1200 °C. Accordingly, the leaching of cesium was remarkably reduced by the remineralization to the stable pollucite. The stable impregnation of ferrocyanide component in the chabazite pores derived the reduction of cesium volatility enabling the high temperature stabilization method. Our experimental results provide evidence that the composite adsorbent has clear advantages on the cesium removal from contaminated water and its stabilization via thermal-treatment.After diagnosed in Wuhan, COVID-19 spread quickly in mainland China. Though the epidemic in regions outside Hubei in mainland China has maintained a degree of control, evaluating the effectiveness and timeliness of intervention strategies, and predicting the transmission risk of work resumption as well as lifting the lockdown in Hubei province remain urgent. A patch model reflecting the mobility of population between Hubei and regions outside Hubei is formulated, and parameterized based on multiple source data for Hubei and regions outside Hubei. The effective reproduction numbers for Hubei and regions outside Hubei are estimated as 3.59 and 3.26 before Jan 23rd, 2020, but decrease quickly since then and drop below 1 after Jan 31st and Jan 28th, 2020. It is predicted that the new infections in Hubei province will decrease to very low level in mid-March, and the final size is estimated to be about 68,500 cases. The simulations reveal that contact rate after work resumption or lifting the lockdown in Hubei plays a critical role in affecting the epidemic.
