We then report the results of a meta-analysis of 120 studies (N = 18,949) across 97 published and unpublished articles (initial pool was 1,642 articles) investigating the affective, cognitive, and behavioral effects of security priming. A large overall positive effect size (d = .51, p less then .001) was found across all affective, cognitive, and behavioral domains. The largest effect was found for affect-related outcomes (d =.62, p less then .001), followed by behavioral (d = .44, p less then .001), and cognitive (d = .45, p less then .001). Trait attachment anxiety and avoidance moderated the effects of subliminal security priming for behavioral outcomes-security priming effects were larger among people higher on attachment anxiety and avoidance. Assessment of publication bias revealed mixed evidence for the possible presence of asymmetry.Two studies were conducted to further the understanding of daily experiences of perseverance and passion and the influences of personality traits (e.g., grit and conscientiousness) and contextual factors. Adopting a Bayesian perspective, we extend the definition of the expected value of perfect information (EVPI) from decision analysis to net benefit calculations in risk prediction. In the context of model development, EVPI is the expected gain in net benefit by using the correct predictions as opposed to predictions from a proposed model. The objective of this study was to compare the outcomes of patients treated with tube grafts and AFX stent-graft in the narrow infrarenal aortic anatomy.

Patients with penetrating aortic ulcers (PAUs) or sacciform aneurysms of the infrarenal aorta and an aortic bifurcation diameter ≤20 mm who underwent endovascular aneurysm repair (EVAR) with bifurcated AFX or tube stent-grafts (TUBE) between 2012 and 2020 were included. Demographic data and the outcome of the AFX group were compared with the TUBE group. All morphological measurements in the preoperative and postoperative computed tomography scans were performed in the aortic centerline.

Fifty-one patients (female 12/51; 29%; median age 72 years [63, 77]) with a median follow-up of 10 (3, 39) months, were included, of whom 35/51 (69%) had PAUs and 11/51 were symptomatic (22%). The aortic bifurcation diameter was 17 mm (15, 18) with severe calcifications in 25/51 (49%). The distal aortic landing zone was longer in the TUBE group (9 mm vs 24 mm; p<0.001). The technical success was 96% with a median aneurysm shrinkage of 8% (3, 13), which was comparable between the groups (p=0.264). Periprocedural mortality, conversion to open surgery, myocardial infarction, and stroke were not observed. Two type Ia endoleaks (EL) and 2 type Ib EL occurred, all in the TUBE group (Type 1 EL; 19 vs 0%; p=0.013). The limb patency in the AFX group was 100%. One patient with a tube graft developed an infrarenal aortic thrombosis 40 months after the intervention. The reintervention rate in the TUBE group was higher (14 vs 0%; p=0.032) and included 3 aortic cuff implantations and 1 covered endovascular aortic reconstruction of aortic bifurcation (CERAB).

The aim of the current work was to develop a method for biofilm fractionation, facilitating the analysis of individual spatial biofilm layers using metagenomic approaches. Phosphorus accumulating biofilm applied in an enhanced biological phosphorus removal wastewater treatment plant, were fractionated, and analyzed. The fractionated biofilm revealed a surprising spatial distribution of bacteria and genes, where potential polyphosphate accumulating organisms account for ∼ 47% of the inner layer microbiome. A spatial distribution of genes involved in dissimilatory nitrogen reduction was observed, indicating that different layers of the biofilm were metabolically active during the anoxic and aerobic zones of the phosphorus removal process. The physical biofilm separation into individual fractions unveiled functional layers of the biofilm, which will be important for future understanding of the phosphorus removal wastewater process.
Chronic venous insufficiency is a common vascular condition with significant resultant patient morbidity. There has been a shift towards minimally invasive treatment modalities with VenaSeal endovenous ablation among the more recent treatment modalities introduced. Long-term outcome data for this treatment modality is not widely available yet. We aim to report 6-week patient outcomes over a 5-year period from a high-volume tertiary vascular centre.

This is a retrospective, single-centre study reporting short-term outcomes following VenaSeal endovenous ablation for symptomatic saphenous incompetence. Patients were followed-up at 6-weeks post-procedurally by telemedicine or in-person clinic appointment without routine venous ultrasound assessment.

We report outcomes for 235 patients during this study period. All patients tolerated the procedure under local anaesthesia. Average age was 60.5years (29-82years) with slight male predominance (55.7%). The majority were New Zealand European (63.8%). This study uses pooled data from 1997 to 2018 National Health Interview Survey to examine trends in living arrangements and health among middle-aged (ages 40-64) and older adults (ages 65-84). The results show that increasing share of middle-aged and older adults are living with persons other than their spouses or cohabiting partners, and this living arrangement is increasingly associated with poor health. Co-residence with persons other than spouses or cohabiting partners is particularly related to serious psychological distress among older adult women. Living alone in midlife is increasingly associated with poor health, but there has been little change in health of older adults living alone. The findings call for targeted policies and programs to address the needs of middle-aged and older adults in diverse living arrangements.
