A new slurry cementation method was used to produce silicide-aluminide protective coatings on austenitic stainless steel 1.4541. The slurry cementation processes were carried out at temperatures of 800 and 1000 °C for 2 h with and without an additional oxidation process at a temperature of 1000 °C for 5 min. The microstructure and thickness of the coatings were studied by scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The intention was to produce coatings that would increase the heat resistance of the steel in a nitriding atmosphere. For this reason, the produced coatings were subjected to gas nitriding at a temperature of 550-570 °C in an atmosphere containing from 40 to 60% of ammonia. The nitriding was carried out using four time steps 16, 51, 124, and 200 h, and microstructural observations using SEM were performed after each step. AMG-900 mouse Analysis of the chemical composition of the aluminide coatings and reference sample was performed using wavelength (WDS) and energy (EDS) dispersive X-ray microanalysis, and phase analysis was carried out using X-ray diffraction (XRD). The resistance of the aluminide coatings in the nitriding atmosphere was found to depend strongly on the phase composition of the coating. The greatest increase in resistance to gas corrosion under nitriding atmosphere conditions was achieved using a manufacturing temperature of 1000 °C.This article is focused on the comparison of the reliability of the results obtained by image analysis (newly proposed evaluation method) with well-known methods of evaluation of long-term corrosion resistance of glass fibers in an alkaline environment (pH > 12). The developed method is based on the analysis of scanning electron microscopy images (diameter and structures on the fiber surface). An experiment (52 weeks) was performed to evaluate two types of glass fibers anticorrosive glass fibers (ARGFs) and E-glass fibers (EGFs). Three media were used to treat the fibers (23 ± 2 °C) H2O, Ca(OH)2, and K2SiO3. The ARGFs' tensile strength did not reduce; a decrease by 68% was observed for EGFs in H2O. Tensile strength decreased by 32% and 85-95% in K2SiO3; by 50% and 64% in Ca(OH)2 for the ARGF and EGF, respectively. Statistical analysis was performed to validate the reliability and plausibility of the developed method. ARGFs and EGFs did not show any relationship between the fiber diameter and weight in H2O; however, the linear trends may predict this relationship in Ca(OH)2 and K2SiO3. For the ARGF and EGF, the cubic trend was suitable for predicting the change in fiber weight and diameter over time in Ca(OH)2 and K2SiO3.The article aims to present the modified structural composition of the sub-ballast layers of the railway substructure, in which a part of the natural materials for the establishment of sub-ballast or protective layers of crushed aggregate is replaced by thermal insulation and reinforcing material (layer of composite foamed concrete and extruded polystyrene board). In this purpose, the experimental field test was constructed and the bearing capacity of the modified sub-ballast layers' structure and temperature parameters were analyzed. A significant increase in the original static modulus of deformation on the surface of composite foamed concrete was obtained (3.5 times and 18 times for weaker and strengthen subsoil, respectively). Based on real temperature measurement, it was determined the high consistency of the results of numerical analyses and experimental test (0.002 m for the maximum freezing depth of the railway line layers and maximum ±0.5 °C for temperature in the railway track substructure-subsoil system). Based on results of numerical analyses, modified railway substructure with built-in thermal insulating extruded materials (foamed concrete and extruded polystyrene) were considered. A nomogram for the implementation of the design of thicknesses of individual structural layers of a modified railway sub-ballast layers dependent on climate load, and a mathematical model suitable for the design of thicknesses of structural sub-ballast layers of railway line were created.The preparation of ultra-high-performance concrete (UHPC) with both high-early-strength and good workability contributes to further promotion of its development and application. This study investigated the effects of different accelerators (SM, alkaline powder accelerator; SF, alkaline powder accelerator containing fluorine; and AF, alkali-free liquid accelerator containing fluorine) on the workability and strength properties of UHPC. The microstructure of UHPC was also characterized by using XRD and SEM. Several dosage levels of accelerators (2%, 4%, 6%, and 8% by mass) were selected. The results indicate that the setting time and fluidity of UHPC are gradually decreased with an increase in accelerators dosage. Compared with fluorine-containing SF/AF, fluorine-free SM evidently facilitates UHPC early strength gain speed. However, the fluorine-containing accelerators have a higher 28 d strength ratio, especially AF. The maximum compressive and flexural strength ratios are obtained at a dosage of 6%, which are 95.5% and 98.3%, respectively. XRD and SEM tests further reveal the effect of different accelerators on the macroscopic properties of UHPC from the micro level.The present paper analyzes the damage of surfaces at spots of frictional contact, namely, the friction nodes on a camshaft and the connecting rod pins of a crankshaft. The resulting wear of the monitored friction nodes reduces the technical life of the machines, which can lead to the decommissioning of the machine. Wear was assessed by measuring roughness and microhardness and by observing the microstructures of the materials. The results of the experiments show that the rotating parts displayed visible wear on the cams, as well as on the connecting rod pins. The experiments revealed that wear was caused by the heating of the material to a high temperature during the operation of the machine and that there was a gradual cooling and tempering of the material, which led to a reduction in the microhardness of the monitored object. Lower microhardness values can be a cause of greater wear of the monitored objects. When comparing the microhardness of the used and the new camshaft, the hardened layer of the new camshaft from secondary production has a significantly smaller thickness compared to worn cams, which leads to the finding of a different material quality compared to the original parts from primary production. This fact indicates that the wear of a new camshaft as a spare part can contribute to the shortening of the technical life of friction nodes.Mixtures of nematic liquid crystals (LCs) with chiral ionic liquids (CILs) may find application as active materials for electrically driven broadband mirrors. Five nematic liquid crystal hosts were mixed with twenty three ionic liquids, including chiral ones, and studied in terms of their miscibility within the nematic phase. Phase diagrams of the mixtures with CILs which exhibited twisted nematic phase were determined. Miscibility, at levels between 2 and 5 wt%, was found in six mixtures with cyanobiphenyl-based liquid crystal host-E7. On the other hand, the highest changes in the isotropization temperature was found in the mixtures with isothiocyanate-based liquid crystal host-1825. Occurrence of chemical reactions was found. A novel chiral binaphtyl-based organic salt [N11116][BNDP] was synthesized and, in reaction to the 1825 host, resulted in high helical twisting power product(s). Selectivity of the reaction with the isothiocyanate-based liquid crystal was found.Heat treatment is a necessary means to obtain desired properties for most of the materials. Thus, the grain boundary (GB) phenomena observed in experiments actually reflect the GB behaviors at relatively high temperature to some extent. In this work, 405 different GBs were systematically constructed for body-centered cubic (BCC) metals and the grain boundary energies (GBEs) of these GBs were calculated with molecular dynamics for W at 2400 K and β-Ti at 1300 K and by means of molecular statics for Mo and W at 0 K. It was found that high temperature may result in the GB complexion transitions for some GBs, such as the Σ11332332 of W. Moreover, the relationships between GBEs and sin(θ) can be described by the functions of the same type for different GB sets having the same misorientation axis, where θ is the angle between the misorientation axis and the GB plane. Generally, the GBs tend to have lower GBE when sin(θ) is equal to 0. However, the GB sets with the for β-Ti at 1300 K.A model study of electric double layer capacitor (EDLC)-style capacitors in which the electrodes were composed of low surface area-oriented flakes of graphite that compressed to form a paper-like morphology has suggested that ion transport rates significantly impact EDLC energy and power density. Twelve capacitors were constructed, each using the same model electrode material and the same aqueous NaCl electrolyte, but differing in relative electrode orientation, degree of electrode compression, and presence/absence of an ionic transport salt bridge. All were tested with a galvanostat over a range of discharge currents. Significant differences in energy and power density and estimated series resistance were found as a function of all the factors listed, indicating that capacitor performance is not simply a function of the electrode surface area. This simple postulation was advanced and tested against data net ion (Na+, Cl-) 'velocity' during both charge and discharge significantly impacts capacitive performance.Recycled aggregate concrete-filled steel tubular (RACFST) columns are widely recognized as efficient structural members that can reduce the environmental impact of the building industry and improve the mechanical behavior of recycled aggregate concrete (RAC). The objective of this study is to investigate the behavior of recycled aggregate concrete-filled circular steel tubular (RACFCST) stub columns subjected to the axial loading. Three-dimensional finite element (FE) models were established using a triaxial plastic-damage constitutive model of RAC considering the replacement ratio of recycled aggregates. The FE analytical results revealed that the decreased ultimate bearing capacity of RACFCST stub columns compared with conventional concrete infilled steel tubular (CFST) columns was mainly due to the weakened confinement effect and efficiency. This trend will become more apparent with the larger replacement ratio of recycled aggregates. A practical design formula of the ultimate bearing capacity of RACFCST stub columns subjected to axial load was proposed on the basis of the reasonably simplified cross-sectional stress nephogram at the ultimate state. The derivation process incorporated the equilibrium condition and the superposition theory. The proposed equation was evaluated by comparing its accuracy and accessibility to some well-known design formulae proposed by other researchers and some widely used design codes.With the change of people's living habits, bone trauma has become a common clinical disease.
