* Use a "to be" verb when you are defining something or comparing something
* strive for shorter(not too short!), sharper, clearer sentences! - again, don't try to be fancy
* can make references to other works to illuminate the main work
* a lot of writing abt genre was produced and formulated by actual writers and critics - better for you to research a particular artifact until you find writing about its genre rather than searching for general features about a genre.
* get to know how to use a library for your resources - find a book about your genre(or book!) umich library, archives, jstor, and maizies(umich bot?) doesn't have to be a lot of research, this is supposed to be a intuition-driven assignment
* don't assume your reader is stupid! (it's your teacher lol) define a few things that might be harder to understand
Reverse outlining:
1. Write it all out with no structure
2. Don't move anything, don't change, don't judge, just evaluate - what sentences are what types(claims, arguments, analysis, etc)
3. Determine the most effective order as if you were writing this from scratch
4. Organize, move things around
5. Look at where you might need more or need to remove
