The aim of this study was to compare underwater fin swimming performance using dolphin, flutter and breaststroke kicks with and without diving gear. Swimmers' performance was compared between holding their breath and using breathing apparatus. Two cameras recorded their movements in sagittal and transverse planes. The average swimming velocity (vav), stroke length (SL), stroke rate (SR), index of variation of intracycle velocity (VIVIndex) and stroke index (SI) were estimated. Relative to the other techniques, the dolphin kick without a diving gear demonstrated the highest vav and low SI and VIVIndex values, which reflects the most advantageous economy of propulsion at given velocity. Given the lack of statistical differences, using the breaststroke kick and flutter kick when swimming with a diving gear seems to be comparable to dolphin-kick in terms of average velocity and parameters reflecting the economy of propulsion. Thus, a search for fin swimming techniques with the aim of achieving specific goals seemed reasonable. The results suggest, that performance achieved while using various fin swimming techniques was probably controlled by different strategies of leg movements. These strategies revealed differences in a spatiotemporal (SR-SL) structure of the stroke and they were closely associated in terms of the velocity variation decrease.
A previous study suggested that intracranial aneurysms are more likely to occur in the same arterial territory within families. We aimed to replicate this analysis in independent families and in a sample limited to intracranial aneurysms that ruptured.

Among families with ≥2 first-degree relatives with intracranial aneurysms, we randomly matched index families to comparison families, and compared concordance in intracranial aneurysm territory between index and comparison families using a conditional logistic events/trials model. We analyzed three European cohorts separately, and pooled the results with those of the Familial Intracranial Aneurysm study by performing an inverse variance fixed effects meta-analysis. The main analysis included both unruptured and ruptured intracranial aneurysms, and a secondary analysis only ruptured intracranial aneurysms.

Among 70 Dutch, 142 Finnish, and 34 French families, concordance regarding intracranial aneurysm territory was higher within families than between families, although not statistically significant. Meta-analysis revealed higher concordance in territory within families overall (odds ratio [OR] 1.7, 95%CI 1.3-2.2) and for each separate territory except the anterior cerebral artery. In the analysis of ruptured intracranial aneurysms, overall territory concordance was higher within families than between families (OR 1.8; 95%CI 1.1-2.7) but the territory-specific analysis showed statistical significance only for the internal carotid artery territory.

These facts prompted us to study the function of PIERCE1 with respect to p53-associated pathophysiology of cancer in humans. Unexpectedly, PIERCE1 did not respond to overexpression and activation of p53 in humans. In this study, we swapped p53 protein expression in human and mouse cells to find the clue of this difference between species. Human p53 expression in mouse cells upregulated PIERCE1 expression, suggesting that p53-responsive elements on the PIERCE1 promoter are crucial, but not the p53 protein itself. Indeed, in silico analyses of PIERCE1 promoters revealed that p53-responsive elements identified in mice are not conserved in humans. Consistently, chromatin immunoprecipitation-sequencing (ChIP-seq) analyses confirmed p53 enrichment against the PIERCE1 promoter region in mice, not in human cells. To complement the p53 study in mice, further promoter analyses suggested that the human PIERCE1 promoter is more similar to guinea pigs, lemurs, and dogs than to rodents. Taken together, our results confirm the differential responsiveness of PIERCE1 expression to p53 due to species differences in PIERCE1 promoters. The results also show partial dissimilarity after p53 induction between mice and humans.There has been a growing number of sexual health and blood-borne virus (SHBBV) surveys specifically administered to migrant populations. The purpose of this scoping review is to collate available information about how SHBBV surveys have been administered in migrant populations and the effect that mode of administration has on data quality, reliability and other practical considerations, e.g. response rates (RR) and social desirability bias. A methodological framework for scoping reviews was applied. SHBBV survey studies administered to international migrants published since 2000 were included if they contained some description of mode of administration. Ninety one studies were identified for inclusion from Embase, Medline, Web of Science, Google Scholar and supplementary grey literature. 'Interview only' was the most common mode of administration (n = 48), predominately comprising face-to-face interviews. Thirty six studies reported data from 'self-completed' surveys only, with pen-and-paper being most common (n = 17).
