This study was the first to implement a nuclei quantification using microscopy to guide the selection of the best tissue type to use for DNA analysis. The use of a greater number of thinner tissue sections (100 sections, each 1 μm) significantly improved DNA concentration, purity and fragment length. Additionally, the combination of Deparaffinization Solution with the QIAamp® DNA FFPE Tissue Kit proved most favourable with a median DNA yield of 320 ng and 55% of DNA fragments greater than 400 bp. Isolated DNA was of single source, indicating no contamination in the workflow, and FFPET blocks that were stored for up to 3.5 years did not significantly affect DNA degradation (p = 0.1764). These results are especially informative for designing library preparation and sequencing workflows for determining cause of death in unresolved SUD cases.Empirical studies evaluating the conditions under which the transfer of forensic materials occurs can provide contextual information and offer insight into how that material may have been transferred in a given scenario. Here, a reductionist approach was taken to assess the impact of force, time, and rotation on the transfer of an explosive compound. An Instron ElectroPuls E3000 material testing instrument was used to bring porous and non-porous surfaces adulterated with an ammonium nitrate into direct contact with a human skin analogue, controlling for the force of contact, duration of contact, and rotation applied during contact. Quantifiable amounts of ammonium nitrate were recovered from all of the recipient surfaces demonstrating that ammonium nitrate is readily transferred from one surface to another, even when contact occurs for a short duration with a relatively low force. More particulates were transferred from non-porous surfaces onto the human skin analogue, but the amount of ammonium nitrate transferred did not depend upon the force of contact, duration of contact, or the amount of rotation applied. However, when contact occurred and involved rotation, a greater transfer of ammonium nitrate was observed, compared to those contacts occurring without rotation being applied. This approach complements more commonly-used holistic experiments that test multiple interacting variables in a realistic setting by isolating these variables, allowing them to be examined individually. This can be utilised to better understand the individual impact that specific variables have on the transfer of trace evidence in relevant crime reconstruction contexts.
To assess the association between grocery store proximities and the individual's grocery store preferences among Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program Education participants in Atlanta.
University of Georgia Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program Education participants (n = 615, response rate is 36%) in 3 counties provided their preferred grocery store chains. The association between store proximity (both network distance and driving time) and store preference was measured through logistic regression controlling for age, sex, and race.
Descriptive statistics showed participants had widely varying proximities to grocery stores. Sirtuin activator Model results were significant for all smaller chains (Aldi, Big Bear, Wayfield, Food Depot, and Save-A-Lot), Kroger (P < 0.01), as well as for Walmart (time only, P = 0.002).
Future studies might identify whether local groceries are more willing to partner on interventions or are more effective at reaching local residents. Surveys or techniques such as sketch mapping could also show whether individuals shop in neighborhoods close to work or friends and family.

To investigate the correlates of adolescent energy drink (ED) use using a socioecological approach to inform future interventions.
In 2017-2018, 3,688 students attending 25 randomly selected Western Australian secondary schools completed a self-report survey. A backward stepwise logistic regression analysis was used to construct a model of the most significant individual (n = 12), social (n = 3), and environmental (n = 4) factors associated with being an ED user (ie, past month ED use).
Overall, 18% of participants were ED users. The factors significantly associated with being an ED user included being male (P < 0.001), having a higher disposable income (P < 0.001), perceiving EDs as good for health (P = 0.009), perceiving EDs as safe for someone their age to drink (P < 0.001), having a sensation-seeking personality (P = 0.011), having friends who drink EDs (P < 0.001), having parents who would give them an ED if asked (P < 0.001), and having EDs available at home (P < 0.001).
Initiatives to reduce ED intake among adolescents need to be multifaceted, addressing individual, social, and environmental factors. It is also important that educational interventions target both parents and adolescents.

To examine how body mass index assessments are conducted in schools and whether student comfort with assessments varies by students' perceived weight status, weight satisfaction, or privacy during measurements.
In-person cross-sectional surveys with diverse fourth- to eighth-grade students (n = 11,510) in 54 California schools in 2014-2015 about their experience being weighed in the prior school year.
Half of the students (49%) reported being weighed by a physical education teacher and 28% by a school nurse. Students were more comfortable being weighed by nurses than physical education teachers (P = 0.01). Only 30% of students reported privacy during measurements. Students who were unhappy with their weight (P <0.001) and those who perceived themselves as overweight (P <0.001) were less comfortable being weighed than their peers.
Student weight dissatisfaction, higher perceived weight status, and being female were associated with discomfort with school-based weight measurements. Prioritizing school nurses to conduct weight measurements could mitigate student discomfort, and particular attention should be paid to students who are unhappy with their weight to avoid weight stigmatization.

A structured anonymous online questionnaire was designed and sent to patients with RA, aged 18 years or above living in Spain. Participants were invited though different strategies 1) ConArtritis and related patients associations; 2) Patients participating in the platform www.in-pacient.es; 3) Links from ConArtritis website and open social networks. Sociodemographic and clinical variables, as well as others related to the objectives were collected. A descriptive analysis was performed.
We analysed 882 RA patients, 89% women, with a median age of 52 years, 31.9% disease duration <5 years. They reported a mean pain and patient global disease score (0-10) of 5.1 and 4.9 respectively. The rate of patients with many difficulties or inability to perform daily tasks varied from 6.4% to 49.2%. Based on the activity index 56.8% of patients reported high activity. We found a great or severe impact on the emotional well-being in 31.5% of patients, and of 29.2% in the workplace or academic setting. A total of 87.9% are taking some medication for RA, and 17.3% are little/not satisfied with them. In addition, 67.1% take conventional synthetic disease modifying drugs (DMARDs), and 45.9% biological therapies including biosimilars and small molecules.

Although non-radiographic axial spondyloarthritis (EspAax-nr) is well understood within health institutions, being considered along with radiographic EspAax (EspAax-r) as part of the same disease spectrum, patient understanding is unknown. The aim is to describe the patient's knowledge of the EspAax-nr entity.
Atlas 2017, promoted by the Spanish Federation of Spondylarthritis Associations (CEADE), aims to comprehensively understand the reality of EspAax patients from a holistic approach. A cross-sectional on-line survey of unselected patients with self-reported EspAax diagnosis from Spain was conducted. Participants were asked to report their diagnosis. Socio-demographic, disease characteristics and patient-reported outcomes (PROs) were compared between those patients self-reporting as EspAax-nr and EspAax-r.
634 EspAax patients participated. Mean age 45.7±10.9 years, 50.9% female and 36.1% university-educated. 35 (5.2%) self-reported as EspAax-nr. Compared to EspAax-r patients, those with EspAax-nr werlonger diagnostic delay and lower use of biologic therapy.

Sixty patients were included; 43 (72%) are males, mean age 67 (SD 14) years (<50 years 17%; 51-70 30%; >70 53%), with 8.5 (SD 1) days of symptoms. Sixteen (27%) patients required ICU (94% in <70 years). Fifteen (25%) patients died, 67% in >70 years; 11 (18%) patients died in the first 15 days of admission and 4 (7%) between days 16 to 30. Twenty-three (38%) patients received BARI, 12 (52%) monotherapy (Group 1), during 6 (SD 2.6) days on average, none required ICU and 2 (17%) died. Thirty-one (52%) patients received TCZ, 20 (33%) as monotherapy (Group 2), 16 (52%) patients required ICU and 4 (20%) died. In the 11 (18%) patients who received BARI (2.8 [SD 2.5] days average) and TCZ combined (Group 3), 3 (27%) required ICU and died. There were no severe side effects in BARI or TCZ patients. In the 17 (28%) patients who received neither BARI nor TCZ (Group 4), none required ICU and 6 (35%) died. Mean (SD) PaO
