A 30-week experiment was conducted to investigate the effect of dietary supplementation of 2 varieties of cassava root meal (CRM) with various additives on performance characteristics of laying birds and the quality of eggs laid. Two hundred and forty 21-week-old (Isa Brown®″ strain) laying birds were allotted to 8 dietary treatments in a 2 × 4 factorial arrangement of white (TME 419) and yellow (ITA/IBD/1368) CRM supplemented with no additive, amino acids (methionine and lysine), enzyme, and amino acids + enzyme (AA + Enz). The experiment was partitioned in 3 phases 0-10 weeks, 11-20 weeks, and 21-30 weeks in lay. Variety effect showed improved (p less then 0.05) egg production in layers fed with yellow cassava than those fed the white variety. Supplementing yellow cassava root meal (YCRM) and white cassava root meal (WCRM) with AA + Enz from 0 to 10weeks in lay and 11 to 30weeks in lay, respectively, resulted in superior egg production performance at a reduced cost. Feeding the layers with diets containing the two varieties of cassava, with or without additives at the three phases of lay, did not compromise the quality of eggs produced and YCRM did not improve the egg yolk colour. It was concluded that egg production was improved by diets containing YCRM at the 3 phases of lay, and WCRM supplemented with AA + Enz improved egg production only from 11 weeks in lay. The 2 varieties of cassava root meal and the various additives used did not affect the quality of the eggs laid by the layers.
Readmission to intensive care unit (ICU) after esophageal cancer surgery is a major concern and can be associated with increased adverse outcomes. This study aims to explore causes, risk factors and early outcomes.

We performed a monocentric retrospective analysis in 1140 patients who received esophageal cancer surgery in a higher volume surgeon group between January 2016 and December 2019, at Shanghai Chest Hospital. Univariate and multivariate analysis were performed to identify risk factors, and 14 propensity score matching (PSM) analysis was conducted to compare early outcomes.

The incidence of ICU readmission was about 3.8% (43 of 1140). The most common cause was respiratory failure, found in 30 patients (70%). ICU readmission mainly occurred within 3days after surgery, accounting for 46.5% (20 of 43), with the median length of stay was 3days. Multivariate analysis identified heavy smoking (odds ratio[OR] = 2.445, 95% CI = 1.128 to 5.301, P = 0.024), intraoperative hypoxemia (OR = 2.461, 95% CI = 1monary complications within three days after surgery may be important to prevent patients from ICU readmission.
This study identified five independent risk factors for ICU readmission, which were associated with adverse early outcomes. Preemptive attention given to pulmonary complications within three days after surgery may be important to prevent patients from ICU readmission.
In response to the current coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic the Austrian government issued alockdown from 16 March to 15 May 2020. As periods of economic and emotional burden have proven to detrimentally affect people's psychological health, healthcare officials warned that the strict measures could have aserious impact on psychological health, leading to an increase in suicide attempts. Thus, the objective was to provide evidence for this assumption.

All adult patients admitted to the trauma resuscitation room of the Medical University of Vienna during the lockdown period following asuicide attempt were included in this analysis, forming the study group. Suicidal patients treated during the same period in 2015, 2016, 2018, and 2019 were pooled to create the control group. The year 2017 was excluded because another major hospital in Vienna was partially closed due to achange in infrastructure, resulting in an increased number of severely injured patients treated at our department. As the lockdown caused amarkedly decreased number of patients admitted due to other reasons than suicide the actual number was replaced with the average number of patients admitted in the relevant previous 4 years.

By comparing the study and the control group based on this realistic estimate we revealed an increase in attempted suicides during the lockdown period (p = 0.001). Demographic, mental health-related, and injury specific patient data did not differ between the groups.

The results strongly urge for an improvement in crisis intervention and suicide prevention measures in the event of afuture lockdown.

Subclinical hypothyroidism is related with increased risk of cardiovascular diseases. The decreased levels of dehydroepiandrosterone sulphate (DHEA-S) are associated with hyperlipidemia, atherosclerosis and obesity. The lower levels of DHEA‑S might be an important factor in development of atherosclerosis in subclinical hypothyroidism.

A total of 126patients (62with subclinical hypothyroidism and 64healthy individuals) were included in this prospectively designed study between January 2017 and December 2019. All individuals were evaluated according to DHEA‑S levels, carotid intima media thickness (CIMT) and anthropometric measurements. Blood samples were obtained from patients after 8 h fasting. The groups were statistically compared.

The mean ages of control group and patients with subclinical hypothyroidism were 36.9 ± 11.0 years and 39.6 ± 11.0years, respectively (p = 0.165). The mean waist circumferences in controls and patients were 89 ± 10.7 cm and 91.3 ± 11.1 cm, respectively (p < 0.001). The Dnvestigating relationships between DHEA‑S levels and cardiovascular complications of subclinical hypothyroidism.Mechanical circulatory supports with left ventricular assist devices (LVAD) are nowadays an established treatment in end-stage heart failure for those patients who are waiting for an organ donation or are unsuitable for transplantation. The duration of LVAD support is variable, depending on the device, the intention to treat and the issues occurring during treatment, which can change the purpose treatment or accelerate the transplantation. Moreover, length of reported supports in the literature is heterogenous. In here, we present the clinical and surgical case of the longest LVAD support reported in the literature, as a bridge to transplantation, with axial pump Jarvik 2000 (Jarvik Heart, Inc, New York, NY).
The COVID-19 pandemic led authorities to evacuate via various travel modalities critically ill ventilated patients into less crowded units. G Protein antagonist However, it is not known if interhospital transport impacts COVID-19 patient's mortality in intensive care units (ICUs). A cohort from three French University Hospitals was analysed in ICUs between 15th of March and the 15th of April 2020. Patients admitted to ICU with positive COVID-19 test and mechanically ventilated were recruited.

Among the 133 patients included in the study, 95 (71%) were male patients and median age was 63years old (interquartile range 54-71). Overall ICU mortality was 11%. Mode of transport included train (48 patients), ambulance (6 patients), and plane plus helicopter (14 patients). During their ICU stay, 7 (10%) transferred patients and 8 (12%) non-transferred patients died (p = 0.71). Median SAPS II score at admission was 33 (interquartile range 25-46) for the transferred group and 35 (27-42) for non-transferred patients (p = 0.53). SOFA sco
In France, inter-hospital evacuation of COVID-19 ventilated ICU patients did not appear to increase mortality and therefore could be proposed to manage ICU surges in the future.
We conducted a retrospective observational study in order to identify negative effects of NOTES procedures (Natural Orifice Transluminal Endoscopic Surgery) with transvaginal specimen removal on pregnancy and delivery.

From the total population of 299 patients in our NOTES registry, we tried to contact the 121 patients who were of reproductive age (≤ 45years) at the time of a transvaginal NOTES procedure. They were interviewed by telephone regarding their desire for children, post NOTES-operation pregnancies, and type of delivery using a structured questionnaire. The collected data was analyzed and compared with current data.

We were able to contact 76 patients (follow-up rate 62.8%) with a median follow-up of 77months after surgery (33-129months). Twenty of 74 participating patients had a desire for children (27.0%). One of them and another's male partner were diagnosed as infertile. Regarding the remaining 18 patients, 14 became pregnant, and three of them became pregnant twice. Considering these 17 pregnancies, there was one miscarriage (5.9%) and one twin birth (5.9%). On average, childbirth occurred 44months after the NOTES procedure. With regard to the type of delivery, 10 vaginal births (58.8%) and 7 caesarean sections (41.2%) occurred. Thus, the rate of fulfilled desire for children was 77.8%. Compared with the literature, no difference to the normal course could be detected.

There is no sign that the transvaginal approach in Hybrid-NOTES, with removal of the specimen through the vagina, has a negative effect on conception, the course during pregnancy, or the type of delivery.

Polypropylene (PP) mesh is widely used to reinforce tissues. The foreign body reaction (FBR) to the implant is dominated by innate immune cells, especially macrophages. However, considerable numbers of adaptive immune cells, namely T cells, have also been regularly observed, which appear to play a crucial role in the long-term host response.

This study investigated the FBR to seven human PP meshes, which were removed from the abdomen for recurrence after a median of one year. link2 Using immunofluorescence microscopy, the FBR was examined for various innate (CD11b
myeloid, CD68
macrophages, CD56
NK) and adaptive immune cells (CD3
T, CD4
T-helper, CD8
cytotoxic, FoxP3
T-regulatory, CD20
B) as well as "conventional" immune cells (defined as cells expressing their specific immune cell marker without co-expressing CD68).

T-helper cells (19%) and regulatory T-cells (25%) were present at comparable rates to macrophages, and clustered significantly toward the mesh fibers. For all cell types the lowesroaches focusing on specific cell types have not been very successful in reducing the chronic FBR.
To investigate the effect of Pilates compared with circuit-based exercise in reducing arthralgia in women during hormone therapy for breast cancer.

Single-blind randomized controlled trial, parallel.

University hospital of Brasilia and Brazilian Association for Assistance to People with Cancer.

Sixty women with arthralgia were recruited. Eligibility criteria included women complaining of arthralgia during hormone therapy for breast cancer. The exclusion criteria were women with active cancer, lymphedema, limitations to physical exercise, or limitation to answer some questionnaires.

Primary Pain. Secondary Function, flexibility, and sleep quality. Outcomes were assessed at baseline and the end of the intervention (8 weeks) by the same blinded evaluator.

Sixty participants were randomly assigned 20 to each of the three groups Pilates, circuit-based exercise, and control groups. Exercise was performed twice per week for 75 min, over a period of 8 weeks. link3 Participants in the control group were instructed to continue their usual activities.
