The impact of biomass morphology and culture conditions on fungal fermentation was widely reviewed in the literature. In this work, we presented three independent experiments in order to evaluate the influence of some of those input factors on a lipase production separately by using the Aspergillus niger MYA 135 and the two-stage fermentation technique. Regarding the culture modality, the biomass was pre-grown in a first reactor. Then, the washed mycelium was transferred to a second reactor to continue the study. Firstly, linear effects of fungal morphology and several physiological parameters on a lipase production were explored using the Plackett-Burman design. The dispersed fungal morphology was confirmed as a proper quality characteristic for producing an extracellular lipase activity. Concerning the impact of the carbon source on the biomass pre-growth, the sucrose (E = 9.923, p less then 0.001) and the L-arabinose (E = 4.198, p = 0.009) presented positive and significant effects on the enzyme production. On the contrary, the supplementation of 0.05 g/L CaCl2 displayed a highly negative and significant effect on this process (E = - 7.390, p less then 0.001). Secondly, the relationship between the enzyme production and the input variables NC ratio, FeCl3 and olive oil was explored applying the central composite design. Among the model terms, the NC ratio of the production medium had the most negative and significant influence on the enzyme synthesis. Thus, it was concluded that a low NC ratio was preferable to increase its production. In addition, the bifunctional role of FeCl3 on this fungus was presented. Thirdly, a prove of concept assay was also discussed.Neonatal jaundice has been suggested as a perinatal risk factor for autism spectrum disorder (ASD). We examined UGT1A1 polymorphisms to assess the potential of neonatal jaundice as a risk factor for ASD in children by using DNA extracted from preserved umbilical cord. In total, 79 children with ASD were genotyped for UGT1A1*28 (c.-41-40dup), UGT1A1*6 (c.211 G > A), and UGT1A1*27 (c.686 C > A). The allele frequency of UGT1A1*6 (OR = 1.34, p = 0.26) and UGT1A1*28 (OR = 0.80, p = 0.54) and the prevalence of UGT1A1*28/*6 diplotypes did not differ significantly from those in the control population. No UGT1A1*27 allele was detected in the subjects. ASD symptom assessment scores were not associated with UGT1A1*28/*6/*27 genotypes or UGT1A1*28/*6 diplotypes. These results suggest that neonatal jaundice is not significantly associated with ASD.A global pandemic has significantly impacted the ability to conduct diagnostic evaluations for autism spectrum disorder (ASD). In the wake of the coronavirus, autism centers and providers quickly needed to implement innovative diagnostic processes to adapt in order to continue serve patient needs while minimizing the spread of the virus. The International Collaborative for Diagnostic Evaluation of Autism (IDEA) is a grassroots organization that came together to discuss standards of care during the pandemic and to provide a forum wherein providers communicated decisions. This white paper is intended to provide examples of how different centers adjusted their standard approaches to conduct diagnostic evaluations for ASD during the pandemic and to provide insight to other centers as they go through similar challenges.We hypothesized that autistic adults may be erroneously judged as deceptive or lacking credibility due to demonstrating unexpected and atypical behaviors. Thirty autistic and 29 neurotypical individuals participated in video-recorded interviews, and we measured their demonstration of gaze aversion, repetitive body movements, literal interpretation of figurative language, poor reciprocity, and flat affect. Participants (N = 1410) viewed one of these videos and rated their perception of the individual's truthfulness or credibility. The hypothesis was partially supported, with autistic individuals perceived as more deceptive and less credible than neurotypical individuals when telling the truth. However, this relationship was not influenced by the presence of any of the target behaviors, but instead, by the individual's overall presentation.
To investigate the types, frequency and clinical profiles of uveitic glaucoma seen at a tertiary care center and also to have an idea about the distribution of uveitic glaucoma types in Turkish population.
Consecutive case notes of all patients attending a specialized uveitis clinic over a 3-month period were reviewed retrospectively.
One hundred and seven eyes of 96 patients were included. Sixty-five of the eyes had anterior, one intermediate, nine posterior uveitis while 32 of them had panuveitis. learn more Twenty-three eyes had acute, 52 chronic and 32 recurrent uveitis. Herpes virus associated iridocyclitis was the leading cause of anterior uveitis-associated uveitic glaucoma followed by cytomegalovirus (CMV) associated anterior uveitis; while steroid-induced glaucoma accounted for the majority of chronic uveitis with glaucoma followed by Fuchs' uveitis syndrome (FUS). The most common causes of glaucoma among the cases were steroid-induced in 30 eyes (28%), Herpes virus anterior uveitis in 24 eyes (22%), CMV anterior uveitis in 20 eyes (18%), FUS in 15 eyes (14%), ocular toxoplasmosis in 5 eyes (4%). Behçet's uveitis was the most common (n = 11, 36%) cause of steroid-induced glaucoma. The need for surgical intervention was 23.32% (n = 25; 12 of them were FUS, 8 steroid-dependent, 1 HSV and 3 CMV anterior uveitis and 1 angle closure glaucoma with idiopathic uveitis) in our cases.

To evaluate long-term visual and refractive outcomes of corneal wavefront-guided transepithelial photorefractive keratectomy (t-PRK) with mitomycin C for the treatment of corneal opacities secondary to adenoviral epidemic keratoconjunctivitis.
Records of patients who underwent corneal wavefront-guided t-PRK with excimer laser from January 2012 to December 2018 were retrospectively reviewed. Preoperative and postoperative uncorrected visual acuity, best-spectacle corrected visual acuity, slit-lamp biomicroscopic examination findings, manifest refraction, and corneal aberrations and fundus examination findings were evaluated.
Twenty-two eyes of 22 patients comprising 12 male (55%) and 10 female (45%) were treated. The mean age was 34.5 ± 10.8years (range 19-55). The mean follow-up time was 34.4 ± 17.50months (range 13-61months). There was a statistically significant improvement in UCVA and BSCVA (p < 0.001 and p = 0.02), and there was a significant decrease in total higher-order aberrations, spherical, coma and trefoil aberration at postoperative first year (p < 0.001 in each). In two eyes of two patients, minimal haze formation was observed after the procedure, and both eyes were treated with topical steroid. No recurrence was observed in subepithelial infiltrates in any patient during long-term follow-up.

To demonstrate a novel, alternative endothelium Descemet membrane layer (EDM) orientation method in Descemet membrane endothelial keratoplasty (DMEK) that does not involve prior ink or trepanation marking of the graft, or intraoperative ocular coherence tomography (OCT) guided graft implantation during surgery, thus preventing the occurrence of an upside-down graft implantation that leads with certainty to primary graft failure.
From 2017 to early 2020, 500 eyes underwent DMEK operation using the "bubble-tap" technique first described from Dr. Perdikakis in the department of ophthalmology of St.-Johannes- Hospital in Dortmund in Germany. Primary graft failure and re-bubbling results following "bubble-tap" assisted DMEK are presented.
Primary graft failure due to upside-down graft implantation was not observed in any patient. Re-bubbling was performed in 4.8% of the eyes. In 1.8% of the cases, a re-DMEK was performed due to a graft failure.

To evaluate treatment outcomes and complications of intravitreal rituximab (IVR) monotherapy for eyes with vitreoretinal lymphoma (VRL).
Patients diagnosed with 'isolated primary VRL' or 'VRL with remission of systemic disease' and treated with IVR (1mg/0.1ml) between June 2014 and June 2019 were included in this retrospective, interventional case series. Injections were repeated at monthly intervals until complete resolution. All patients signed a written informed consent form. Institutional review board approval was obtained.
Twelve eyes of 7 patients with VRL were treated with 77 IVR injections at mean 6.42 injections per eye (median = 5; range = 2-13) for complete resolution at mean 8.16 ± 4.62months (median = 6.97months; range = 1.97-14.33months). Mean age at presentation was 53.3years (median = 54years; range = 34-74years). Patients were co-managed with medical oncologist and periodically evaluated. Complications included anterior uveitis (n = 6), raised intraocular pressure (n = 3), posterior synechiae (n = 2), vitreous haemorrhage (n = 1), pre-retinal haemorrhage (n = 1), retinal detachment (n = 1), posterior subcapsular cataract (n = 2) and sectoral iris atrophy (n = 1). Recurrences were seen in 3 eyes (25%), which eventually achieved complete resolution with treatment. None of the patients had systemic involvement or death during follow-up. Mean follow-up was 18.73 ± 8.83months (median = 21.60months; range = 7.37-32.67months).
