This study applied an open-ended exploratory approach using inductive reasoning. The design was inspired by the qualitative method grounded theory. The final sample consisted of twelve older participants. Seven were men, and five were women. The interviews were audio-recorded and transcribed verbatim. The interviewer successively read the transcribed data and analysed the material in cooperation with the authors.

Three categories developed from the data; Deteriorating oral health and functional loss, Eating habits, Prosthetic rehabilitation and function. A core category named Adaptation emerged. Adaptation describes how individuals successfully could adapt to a decreased function and in spite of this develop a positive view of their masticatory ability.

The participants described an experience of gradually deteriorating oral function that had affected their masticatory ability. By adaptinabits. Future research should therefore focus on how dental treatment can be combined with other interventions, such as dietary counselling and physiotherapy to recover physiological function.The H-NS-like proteins MvaT and MvaU act coordinately as global repressors in Pseudomonas aeruginosa by binding to AT-rich regions of the chromosome. Although cells can tolerate loss of either protein, identifying their combined regulatory effects has been challenging because the loss of both proteins is lethal due to induction of prophage Pf4 and subsequent superinfection of the cell. In other bacteria, H-NS promotes the cellular fitness by inhibiting intragenic transcription from AT-rich target regions, preventing them from sequestering RNA polymerase; however, it is not known whether MvaT and MvaU function similarly. Here, we utilize a parental strain that cannot be infected by Pf4 phage to define the collective MvaT and MvaU regulon and demonstrate that the combined loss of both MvaT and MvaU leads to increased intragenic transcription from loci directly controlled by these proteins. We further show that the loss of MvaT and MvaU leads to a striking redistribution of RNA polymerase containing σ70 to genomic regions vacated by these proteins. Our findings suggest that the ability of H-NS-like proteins to repress intragenic transcription is a universal function of these proteins and point to a second mechanism by which MvaT and MvaU may contribute to the growth of P. aeruginosa.[Cu(phen)2 ]2+ (phen=1,10-phenanthroline) is the first and still one of the most efficient artificial nucleases. The metasynthesis approach was based on the guidelines by Sandelowski and Barroso for synthesizing qualitative research.

Seven electronic databases CINAHL, Medline, Embase, PsycINFO, Web of Science, Scopus, and SocIndex were searched on 6-10 February 2020.

Studies were critically appraised using the Joanna Briggs critical appraisal tool. Qualitative data were extracted, meta-summarised, then meta-synthesized.

Nineteen qualitative studies were included in this review. Six themes illustrated experiences in the transition to adulthood wishing for an 'ordinary' life, significance of close network, working towards independence, in need of systemic resources and services, psychosocial challenges and keeping a positive attitude.

Guided by the purpose of complementarity, our mixed methods data analyses combine insights gained from CM's quantitative reports of 145 instances of risky online behavior with qualitative analyses of three focus groups addressing their experiences. Results underscore the complexities of social media as a context with the potential to simultaneously contribute to, and serve to prevent, trauma. Results also indicate that empathic concern and perspective taking were important in informing the type of intervention tactics employed by CMs. Relatedly, CM's perspective taking mattered not only in their responses to risky and/or trauma-related content, but also in their identification of some relevant social media posts.

Improving shared decision-making (SDM) enables more tailored cancer treatment decisions. We evaluated a Time Out consultation (TOC) with the general practitioner (GP), between cancer diagnosis and treatment decision, which aims at supporting SDM and improving continuity of primary care. This study aims to evaluate the effects of a TOC on perceived SDM, information provision and self-efficacy.

This randomised controlled trial included newly diagnosed patients with curable cancer (breast, lung, colorectal, gynaecologic and melanoma) from four Dutch hospitals. Primary outcome is perceived SDM and secondary outcomes are information provision and self-efficacy.

One hundred fifty-four patients (control n=77, intervention n=77) - female 75%, mean age 61 (SD±11.9). In the intervention group, 80.5% (n=62) had a TOC, of which 82.3% (n=51) took place after treatment decision. Perceived SDM was lower in the intervention group (-8.9 [95% CI 0.6-17.1]). Among those with a TOC before treatment decision (n=11), perceived SDM was comparable to the control group (66.5±27.2 vs. 67.9±26.1).

Even though patients are motivated to have a TOC, implementing a TOC between diagnosis and treatment decision is challenging. Effects of a timely TOC could not be established. Non-timely TOC decreased perceived SDM. Planning of the TOC should be optimised, and future research should establish if adequately timed TOC results in improved SDM in cancer patients.
