DNA mutation analysis, using a panel of 56 genes frequently mutated in cancer, and p53 immunostaining were performed on both tumor and radiation-damaged mucosa in a subset of short course cases. Somatic mutations were identified only in tumors, supporting the concept that tissues with radiation-induced "dysplastic-like" features are not genetically transformed. Pathologists should be aware of the characteristic morphological changes induced by radiation. The presence of features simulating dysplasia in the group treated with short-course radiotherapy may lead to serious diagnostic mistakes, if erroneously interpreted. Next generation sequencing (NGS) analysis further validated the morphological concept that radiation-induced abnormalities do not represent pre-neoplastic lesions.Laser-induced breakdown spectroscopy (LIBS) analysers are becoming increasingly common for material classification purposes. However, to achieve good classification accuracy, mostly noncompact units are used based on their stability and reproducibility. In addition, computational algorithms that require significant hardware resources are commonly applied. For performing measurement campaigns in hard-to-access environments, such as mining sites, there is a need for compact, portable, or even handheld devices capable of reaching high measurement accuracy. The optics and hardware of small (i.e., handheld) devices are limited by space and power consumption and require a compromise of the achievable spectral quality. As long as the size of such a device is a major constraint, the software is the primary field for improvement. In this study, we propose a novel combination of handheld LIBS with non-negative tensor factorisation to investigate its classification capabilities of copper minerals. The proposed approach is based on the extraction of source spectra for each mineral (with the use of tensor methods) and their labelling based on the percentage contribution within the dataset. These latent spectra are then used in a regression model for validation purposes. The application of such an approach leads to an increase in the classification score by approximately 5% compared to that obtained using commonly used classifiers such as support vector machines, linear discriminant analysis, and the k-nearest neighbours algorithm.Melanoma skin cancer is still a deadly disease despite recent advances in therapy. Previous studies have suggested medical plasma technology as a promising modality for melanoma treatment. However, the efficacy of plasmas operated under different ambient air conditions and the comparison of direct and indirect plasma treatments are mostly unexplored for this tumor entity. Moreover, exactly how plasma treatment affects melanoma metastasis has still not been explained. Using 3D tumor spheroid models and high-content imaging technology, we addressed these questions by utilizing one metastatic and one non-metastatic human melanoma cell line targeted with an argon plasma jet. Plasma treatment was toxic in both cell lines. Modulating the oxygen and nitrogen ambient air composition (100/0, 75/25, 50/50, 25/75, and 0/100) gave similar toxicity and reduced the spheroid growth for all conditions. This was the case for both direct and indirect treatments, with the former showing a treatment time-dependent response while the latter resulted in cytotoxicity with the longest treatment time investigated. Live-cell imaging of in-gel cultured spheroids indicated that plasma treatment did not enhance metastasis, and flow cytometry showed a significant modulation of S100A4 but not in any of the five other metastasis-related markers (β-catenin, E-cadherin, LEF1, SLUG, and ZEB1) investigated.In recent years, people's demand for meat products has increased, but the occurrence of meat food quality and safety problems has also caused irreparable losses to the safety of human lives and properties, and enterprises have lost their reputation. Since the frequent occurrence of food quality and safety incidents is the result of the lack of an early warning mechanism, a large number of problematic foods flow into the market. In order to prevent the occurrence of food quality and safety incidents and control food quality from the source, this article first refers to the results of EFSA's Emerging Risks Project (EMRISK) and the food safety early warning framework of Kleter and Marvin, combined with the existing meat processing companies. Some quality control systems have put forward an early warning indicator system that includes the external environment of the enterprise, internal risks, and consumers' concerns. Then, by issuing 500 questionnaires and interviewing 25 experts, 912 pieces of data were collected and a Monte Carlo simulation early warning model was established. Using case studies, taking Shandong Delis Co., Ltd. (Binzhou, China, hereinafter referred to as DLS) as an example, through sensitivity analysis and program analysis, the company's food risk status and early warning model was evaluated. The results show that the risk of rising consumers' concerns about counterfeiting and inferior products has the greatest impact on food quality and safety risks, followed by policy adjustment risks, and the risk of raw material sources ranked third. A total of six important risk warning indicators have been extracted, and these six need to be strictly controlled to control the overall risk. The research provides support for companies to formulate food quality monitoring, early warning and management strategies from a macro perspective, and control key early warning indicators in food quality and safety to reduce risks.In this work, we show that a late fusion approach to multimodality in sign language recognition improves the overall ability of the model in comparison to the singular approaches of image classification (88.14%) and Leap Motion data classification (72.73%). With a large synchronous dataset of 18 BSL gestures collected from multiple subjects, two deep neural networks are benchmarked and compared to derive a best topology for each. The Vision model is implemented by a Convolutional Neural Network and optimised Artificial Neural Network, and the Leap Motion model is implemented by an evolutionary search of Artificial Neural Network topology. Next, the two best networks are fused for synchronised processing, which results in a better overall result (94.44%) as complementary features are learnt in addition to the original task. This paper proposes an object-level semantic SLAM algorithm based on RGB-D data, which uses a quadric surface as an object model to compactly represent the object's position, orientation, and shape. link2 This paper proposes and derives two types of RGB-D camera-quadric observation models a complete model and a partial model. The complete model combines object detection and point cloud data to estimate a complete ellipsoid in a single RGB-D frame. The partial model is activated when the depth data is severely missing because of illuminations or occlusions, which uses bounding boxes from object detection to constrain objects. Compared with the state-of-the-art quadric SLAM algorithms that use a monocular observation model, the RGB-D observation model reduces the requirements of the observation number and viewing angle changes, which helps improve the accuracy and robustness. This paper introduces a nonparametric pose graph to solve data associations in the back end, and innovatively applies it to the quadric surface model. We thoroughly evaluated the algorithm on two public datasets and an author-collected mobile robot dataset in a home-like environment. We obtained obvious improvements on the localization accuracy and mapping effects compared with two state-of-the-art object SLAM algorithms.In plants, the cysteine desulfurase (AtNFS1) and frataxin (AtFH) are involved in the formation of Fe-S groups in mitochondria, specifically, in Fe and sulfur loading onto scaffold proteins, and the subsequent formation of the mature Fe-S cluster. We found that the small mitochondrial chaperone, AtISD11, and AtFH are positive regulators for AtNFS1 activity in Arabidopsis. Moreover, when the three proteins were incubated together, a stronger attenuation of the Fenton reaction was observed compared to that observed with AtFH alone. Using pull-down assays, we found that these three proteins physically interact, and sequence alignment and docking studies showed that several amino acid residues reported as critical for the interaction of their human homologous are conserved. Our results suggest that AtFH, AtNFS1 and AtISD11 form a multiprotein complex that could be involved in different stages of the iron-sulfur cluster (ISC) pathway in plant mitochondria.The steel-wire-carbon-fiber-reinforced plate (SCFR plate) is a relatively new strengthening technology for concrete structures. In this paper, a series of lateral impact tests on SCFR plates and conventional carbon-fiber-reinforced plates (CFR plates) were first performed, followed by tensile tests of both the SCFR plates and the CFR plates. It is found that the SCFR plates can provide the same level of tensile strength as CFR plates, whilst having evident advantages in terms of better ductility and lateral resistance. It is also found that increasing the amount of the steel wire can improve the lateral resistance of the SCFR plate. In addition, the SCFR plate shows the advantage of a reduction in lateral damage, which is commonly experienced by CFR plates during transportation, construction, and maintenance. In the second stage of the research, flexural tests of both SCFR and CFR plate-strengthened reinforced concrete (RC) beams were performed. The failure modes and crack patterns of the RC beams were investigated. Results show that the SCFR plate-strengthened beam exhibits enhanced ductility compared to that strengthened by traditional CFR plates, thereby enhancing the flexural capacity of the RC beams. On the basis of the test results, a formula is designed to predict the flexural capacity of SCFR plates; good agreement is achieved.Background In retinitis pigmentosa (RP), inherited rod death is followed by cone loss and blindness. Why cones die is still a matter of consideration. Here, we investigate the pathogenic role of the sympathetic transmission in the rd10 mouse model of RP. Methods Retinal levels of beta adrenergic receptor (BAR) 2 and norepinephrine (NE) were measured. After administration of the BAR1/2 blocker propranolol or the hypoxia-inducible factor (HIF)-1 activator dimethyloxalylglycine (DMOG), retinal levels of HIF-1α, BAR2 or proteins involved in BAR2 desensitization were also measured. In DMOG treated mice, expression and localization of BAR2, inflammatory markers and cone arrestin were determined. Finally, rd10 mice were subjected to electroretinogram (ERG) analysis to assess rod and cone function. Results In the rd10 retina, BAR2 overexpression and NE accumulation were found, with BAR2 immunoreactivity localized to Müller cells. link3 BAR2 overexpression was likely due to desensitization defects. Upregulated levels of BAR2 were drastically reduced by propranolol that also restored desensitization defects.
