BACKGROUND Treatment of choice for hyperbilirubinemic neonates is blue light matching the absorption spectrum of bilirubin-albumin in vitro with maximum absorption at 459 nm. Blue LED light centered at 478 nm was hypothesized as being more efficient than that centered at 459 nm. This study compares the bilirubin-reducing effect of the two light qualities with equal irradiance in a randomized nonblinded clinical trial. METHODS Inclusion criteria were healthy hyperbilirubinemic neonates with gestational age ≥33 weeks. Forty-nine neonates included in each group received phototherapy from above for 24 h. Mean irradiances were 9.2 × 1015 and 9.0 × 1015 photons/cm2/s for the 478 and 459 nm groups, respectively. RESULTS Mean [95% CI] decreases in total serum bilirubin were 150 [141, 158] and 120 [111, 130] µmol/L for the 478 and 459 nm groups, respectively; mean difference was 29 [17, 42] µmol/L. Mean [95% CI] percentage decreases in bilirubin were 54.8% [52.5, 57.0] and 41.8% [39.3, 44.3]; mean difference was 12.9 his study showed that blue LED light centered at 478 nm had a greater bilirubin-reducing effect than blue LED light centered at 459 nm. Therefore, blue LED light centered at 478 nm should be used instead of blue light centered at 459 nm. By this, the risk of potential side effects might be minimized, and the duration of phototherapy potentially reduced.BACKGROUND The current research work aimed to explore the protective role of myricetin against cataractogenesis in humans, in terms of its anti-apoptotic potential. MATERIAL AND METHODS Human eye lens epithelial cells were exposed to oxidative stress by treating with hydrogen peroxide (H₂O₂). The levels of superoxide dismutase (SOD), catalase (CAT), and glutathione (GSH) were determined using standard detection kits. DAPI (4',6-diamidino-2-phenylindole), AO/EB (acridine orange/ethidium bromide) and Annexin V/propidium iodide (PI) staining assays were used for the assessment of cell apoptosis. Western blotting was used to examine the protein concentrations. RESULTS The exposure of human epithelial eye lens cells to H₂O₂ led to significant accumulation of reactive oxygen species molecules. Treatment of the H₂O₂-stressed epithelial cells with myricetin caused significant (P less then 0.05) increased levels of SOD, CAT, and GSH. Western blot analysis also showed a significant (P less then 0.05) increase in the expression of SOD, CAT, and GSH levels in human epithelial eye lens cells. Additionally, myricetin administration to H₂O₂-treated epithelial eye lens cells caused a significant decline in cell apoptosis ratio. The induction of apoptosis was associated with upregulation of Bax and downregulation of Bcl-2. CONCLUSIONS The results of this study showed the potential of myricetin in protecting the apoptosis driven cataract formation in humans.BACKGROUND At the end of 2019, the COVID-19 outbreak began in Wuhan, Hubei, China, and spread rapidly to the whole country within 1 month. This new epidemic caused a great mental reaction among the public. This study aimed to assess and compare the prevalence and associated factors of anxiety and depression among the public affected by quarantine and those unaffected during the COVID-19 outbreak in southwestern China in early Feb. 2020. MATERIAL AND METHODS Data were collected using the self-rating anxiety scale (SAS) and the self-rating depression scale (SDS) administered to 1593 respondents aged 18 years and above. The respondents were grouped as 'affected group' and 'unaffected group' on the basis of whether they or their families/colleagues/classmates/neighbors had been quarantined. RESULTS Among 1593 participants, the prevalence of anxiety and depression was approximately 8.3% and 14.6%, respectively, and the prevalence in the affected group (12.9%, 22.4%) was significantly higher than that in the unaffected group (6.7%, 11.9%). Lower average household income, lower education level, having a higher self-evaluated level of knowledge, being more worried about being infected, having no psychological support, greater property damage, and lower self-perceived health condition were significant associated with higher scores on the SAS and SDS. People living in Chongqing had higher SAS and SDS scores than those living in Yunnan Province. CONCLUSIONS The prevalence of anxiety and depression of the affected group are higher than in the unaffected group during the COVID-19 outbreak in southwestern China in early Feb. 2020. The government should focus more on providing economic and medical support to improve the general population's mental state.BACKGROUND Granulosa cell tumor of the ovary is very rare in childhood; its most common clinical manifestation is isosexual precocious puberty. Clinical presentation as acute abdomen due to pain and ovarian torsion is rare, but a granulosa cell tumor must be suspected in a patient with this acute presentation and signs of early puberty. Adult-type granulosa cell tumor is an even rarer occurrence in children. CASE REPORT We report a case of torsion of adult-type granulosa cell tumor of the ovary in a 5-year-old patient with acute abdominal pain and ovarian torsion and highlight the importance of histological diagnosis of this tumor for the therapeutic plan and progression of these patients. CONCLUSIONS Precocious puberty, pain, abdominal distension, and an ultrasonography with suspicion of ovarian torsion are warning signs that may indicate the presence of a gonadal stromal tumor in pediatric patients seen at an emergency unit. These patients require long-term follow-up by a pediatrician and gynecologist because of the potential for late recurrence.BACKGROUND Laparoscopic pancreatoduodenectomy (LPD) is a complicated procedure accompanied with high morbidity. Hybrid LPD is usually used as an alternative/transitional approach. This study aimed to prove whether the hybrid procedure is a safe procedure during a surgeon's learning curve of LPD. MATERIAL AND METHODS There were 48 hybrid LPD patients and 62 TLPD patients selected from January 2016 to December 2018; their demographics, surgical outcomes, and oncological data were retrospectively collected. Patient follow-up for the study continued until February 2020. UC2288 nmr RESULTS Patient demographics and baseline parameters were well balanced between the 2 groups. Intraoperative conditions, overall operation time was shorter for TLPD compared to hybrid LPD (407.79 minutes versus 453.29 minutes, respectively; P=0.035) and blood loss was less in TLPD patients compared to hybrid LPD patients (100.00 mL versus 300.00 mL, respectively; P less then 0.001). There was no difference in transfusion rates between the 2 groups (hybrid LPD 16.
