With the increasing availability and use of sophisticated imaging techniques, there are more patients being diagnosed with asymptomatic intracranial AVMs and cavernous hemangiomas. OBJECTIVES Here we evaluate the association between VBL in pregnancy and the maternal and fetal outcomes. STUDY DESIGN The study cohort was identified by isolating all pregnancies from the nationwide inpatient sample (NIS), from the healthcare cost and utilization project (HCUP) over a five-year period. Within this cohort, cases with an arteriovenous malformation (AVM) or cerebral vascular malformations (CVM) were identified and their prevalence was calculated. Baseline demographic characteristics were compared and the odds ratios for various complications and outcomes were calculated. RESULTS Amongst 4,012,396 deliveries, VBL were identified in 214 cases a prevalence of 5.33 cases per 100,000 deliveries. Majority of VBL cases were identified in women between 25 and 35 years of age, but the proportion of women aged 35 and older was greater amongst those patients with VBL. 74% of cases were of Caucasian race and more cases with VBL had a private insurance payer (62.1%). Seizure disorders were present in 63.6% of the cases with VBL. Whilst VBL are not associated with unfavorable obstetrical complications, they are more likely to be delivered by caesarean section (CS) - 79% of VBL cases were delivered by CS compared to 33% of the patients without VBL (OR 7.03 CI 95% 4.98-9.92). Instrumental delivery was performed in 10.3% of the vaginal deliveries for index cases. Index cases were less prone to fetal growth restriction. VBL accounted for 8.4% of 166 cases of intracranial bleeding occurring during the antepartum period within the entire pregnant population. CONCLUSIONS Presence of VBL does not appear to carry additional risk to mother or fetus during pregnancy.PURPOSE To investigate the eyelid temperature (Temp) and tissue blood flow (TBF) changes in healthy eyes using wheat hot pack (WHP) and pottery hot pack (PHP). METHODS A randomized, double-blind, within-subject crossover study design was conducted in a Thai tertiary care center. All healthy subjects received warm compress treatment with WHP and PHP. The subjects were randomized to receive the WHP or the PHP at the first sequence. Temp and TBF measurements were taken at baseline, and every 2 min during the 10-min application of the heated compresses, and every 2 min for a 10-min duration after the compresses were removed. RESULTS There were 29 females (96.7%) and 1 male. The mean (SD) age of the subjects was 33.17 (5.21) years. Two warm compresses were able to increase the surface lid Temp significantly from the baseline Temp at every time point of measurement and location. For the WHP application, the maximum surface Temp (SD) of the outer upper lid, outer lower lid, and inner lower lid were 40.07 (0.80) °C, 38.44 (0.91) °C, and 35.83 (0.71) °C, respectively (all P value  less then  0.001) and under the PHP application, the highest surface Temp (SD) were 40.63 (0.97) °C, 38.32 (1.27) °C, and 35.82 (0.71) °C, respectively (all P value  less then  0.001). Both WHP and PHP were able to increase TBF significantly with no adverse events and these effects can be sustained until 20 min. CONCLUSIONS The results of this study suggest the potential of using these warm compresses for meibomian gland dysfunction. OXTR has been investigated in relation to antisocial behavior, but studies examining this association have produced varying results in terms of the magnitude and significance of the association as well as which SNPs are implicated. This meta-analysis, based on 15 samples in 12 studies with a total sample of 12,236 individuals, examined the overall effects and consistency of associations between eight SNPs in OXTR and antisocial behavior. Random effects models identified a significant association between rs237887 and antisocial behavior (r = 0.06, p = 0.002) based on six studies that included a total of 6278 individuals. Sensitivity analyses suggest that these results were robust to exclusion of any individual study and publication bias. Nevertheless, the high levels of heterogeneity and quality control concerns with the original publications lead us to interpret this one significant finding with caution.
