Research has shown that metacognitions are associated with addictive behaviors. This study aimed to evaluate the psychometric properties (i.e., factor structure, reliability, and predictive validity) of the Persian Metacognitions about Smartphone Use Questionnaire (Persian MSUQ). A community sample of 618 participants (63.6% female, mean age = 27.31 ± 8.95 years; age range 15-67 years) was recruited in Iran. The results of exploratory factor analysis revealed that the Persian MSUQ had a three-factor structure, similar to the parent version, named positive metacognitions about emotional and cognitive regulation, negative metacognitions about uncontrollability and cognitive harm, and positive metacognitions about social advantages. The confirmatory factor analysis indicated that the three-factor structure of the Persian MSUQ had appropriate fit. Cronbach's alphas for the three factors were 0.89, 0.88, and 0.70, respectively. Test-retest coefficients over a 6-week interval showed good reliability for the Persian MSUQ total score (ICC = 0.81; 95% CI 0.72-0.87). Regression analyses showed that metacognitions about smartphone use predicted problematic smartphone use independently of anxiety and depression. The findings suggest that the Persian MSUQ has appropriate psychometric properties in the Iranian context.
Adolescence marks the onset of substance use experimentation and adolescents are particularly vulnerable to certain negative effects of substances. Some evidence indicates reinforcement sensitivity is associated with substance use, though little is known about mechanisms underlying such association.
in the current study were to examine, (1) associations between behavioral activation (BAS) and behavioral inhibition (BIS) system sensitivity, positive (PA) and negative affectivity (NA), and alcohol use and alcohol problems as well as tobacco, and marijuana use, and whether (2) associations are mediated by PA or NA.
Participants were a community sample of N=125 adolescents (M
=15.67years; SD=0.93; 52% boys) who completed self-report measures.
evinced associations, generally as expected, across variables (all ps<0.05). In mediation analyses, an association emerged between BIS sensitivity and alcohol use, mediated by NA (95%CIs [0.034; 0.390]); greater BIS sensitivity was associated with greater NA and ce considered.Older adult caregivers experience health risks due to the demands of the role, higher prevalence of chronic illness, the aging process, and insufficient time for self-care. Using Whittermore and Knafl's methodology, an integrative review was conducted to explore the self-care needs and practices of older adult caregivers. The terms self-care, caregiver, informal caregiver, carer, family carer, and older adult were used to search the CINAHL, PsychINFO and SocIndex databases and obtain studies published in English between 2010 and 2020. Non-research articles, reviews, mean age of subjects less then 50 years, studies focused on formal caregivers were excluded. Fifteen articles met inclusion criteria. Physical activity, stress management, social support, and support resources were identified as self-care needs. Self-care practices included self-advocacy, coping strategies, prioritizing of self, legacy building, and activism. Further exploration is required on how to best support older adult caregivers in fulfilling their caregiving role while promoting their own health.
To report a pilot experience of telemedicine in ophthalmology in open-care modality (i.e. Temsirolimus cost direct video call), in a confinement period due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Descriptive study of the demographic and clinical characteristics of patients attended in a 10-week confinement period. Reported satisfaction of the participating patients and doctors was evaluated through an online survey.
In the 10-week period, 291 ophthalmologic telemedicine consultations were performed. The main reasons for consultation were inflammatory conditions of the ocular surface and eyelids (79.4%), followed by administrative requirements (6.5%), non-inflammatory conditions of the ocular surface (5.2%), strabismus suspicion (3.4%) and vitreo-retinal symptoms (3.1%). According to previously defined criteria, 22 patients (7.5%) were referred to immediate face-to-face consultation. The level of satisfaction was high, both in doctors (100%) and in patients (93.4%).
Open-care modality of telemedicine in ophthalmology during the pandemic period is a useful instrument to filter potential face-to-face consultations, either elective or emergency, and potentially reduce the risk of COVID-19 infection.

Validation in beef demonstrated that the camera prototype in combination with analytical techniques enabled prediction of EMA (r2 = 0.83, RMSEP = 6.4 cm2), MSA marbling (r2 = 0.76, RMSEP = 66.1), AUS-MEAT marbling (r2 = 0.70, RMSEP = 0.74) and chemical IMF% (r2 = 0.78, RMSEP = 1.85%). Accuracy was also maintained on validation with all four traits displaying minimal bias of -3.6, 6.3, 0.07 and - 0.01, for EMA, MSA marbling, AUS-MEAT marbling and IMF% respectively. Preliminary analysis in lamb indicates potential of the system for the prediction of EMA (r2 = 0.41, RMSEP = 1.87) and IMF% (r2 = 0.28, RMSEP = 1.10), however further work to standardise image acquisition and environmental conditions is required.Wastewater treatment plants (WWTPs) have been developed as multifunctional systems that aim to eliminate pollutants present in wastewater, manage the sludge produced and improve energy efficiency. Specifically, sludge management accounts for the largest share in operational costs. Considering the relevant role of sludge treatment within the overall management scheme, this study aims to evaluate different alternatives and strategies for sludge management and treatment from the perspective of life cycle analysis, with special emphasis on those options that reduce environmental impacts and economic costs. Two pre-treatments (chemical or thermal) and two post-treatments (composting unit followed by land application or incineration) were evaluated to improve the eco-balance of the anaerobic digestion (AD) process in terms of operational (biogas production and digested sludge), environmental and economic indicators. According to the results obtained, both sludge pre-treatment alternatives proved to be an adequate alternative to improve biogas production without negatively affecting environmental and economic impacts.
