BMW Smart Key
The majority of new cars on the market today have keyless fobs that let drivers lock, unlock and start their vehicle without needing to insert a physical key. They can be heavy, and drivers are more likely to lose or break them.
BMW has added a new high-tech twist to their existing phone-as-key technology by introducing the Display Key. This blog post will inform you everything about it.
Keyless Entry
BMW Digital Key allows you to lock and unlock your vehicle by tapping your smartphone. To get started, simply download the app from Apple Wallet or Google Play Store and follow the instructions displayed on screen. Once you've added your compatible mobile device to your BMW Connected account, you can share access to up to five family or friends members who also have the app. When someone accepts your invitation, they can unlock and start your car without needing to have a physical key. The feature is functional even when your phone is in airplane mode, with or without the data connection.
The convenience of the BMW Smart Key goes well beyond simply unlocking your car. You can make use of the BMW Smart Key to unlock the trunk and control your HVAC check your fuel levels, and much more. You can also precondition your vehicle's interior so that it's cool or warm when you arrive. The only limitation is that your BMW must be equipped with Comfort Access installed at the factory, or retrofitted by an BMW authorized dealer. You can check to see if your car has Comfort Access by using a no-cost online BMW VIN decoder. If you have the feature, it will say "S322A" on the window sticker of your vehicle.
If you're ready to set up a new BMW Digital Key, start by ensuring your smartphone is fully charged and in the same space as your vehicle. Place your iPhone in the tray for your smartphone, then select 'Start pairing' from the BMW Connected App on your vehicle. Once your phone is connected with the vehicle, you can take the iPhone from the tray.
You can add new users to your BMW Connected Account and selecting "Add New Digital Key. You'll be required to provide your contact details and the VIN number of the vehicle you wish to add access to. You'll then receive a unique code to enter into your mobile device. Once the code has been entered, your smartphone will display the BMW key icon in the Apple Wallet app.
Remote Control Parking
The most recent BMWs are equipped with a number gadgets that make the driver feel like James Bond. However, the smart key's new remote parking control is the most impressive. The driver is able to remotely start and park the car from the outside. It's useful in tight parking spots in which the vehicle is too large to exit it or use a conventional key fob.
The system is simple to set up. However there are a few differences based on the kind of BMW that you own. If your car has a push button start, you will require a key fob, which you can program into the app. On the other side, if you own an older model (from 2021) that uses the BMW Digital Key Plus, then you can press your phone against the door handle to unlock the car, as if you were using an ordinary key.
For both models of BMW you can use the remote start function to prepare the interior of the vehicle. This can help to keep the temperature of the vehicle at a comfortable level when you're driving, and it's a great method to prepare your vehicle for long-distance trips. BMW's app lets you select the desired temperature settings from the comfort of home and then start your vehicle. The smart key sends the necessary commands to your vehicle, which will activate the fan and start cooling or heating the interior.
As you'd expect from a device designed to replace a smartphone, the BMW display key comes with a touch screen for operation and offers a wealth of information about your vehicle. You can easily check the status of your sunroof, windows doors, as well as the alarm system. You can also check for the battery level, and any other functions that require attention.
The display key can be charged just like a regular phone. Its USB port can be used to charge compatible mobile phones and it has a light indicator that displays the status of charging (Blue=Charging, Orange=Not Charging) as well as fault messages.
Driver Profiles
If you're looking for a further layer of security you can program your BMW with the key fob which will let you know if someone is trying to gain entry into the car without permission. This feature can be used to close your windows and sunroof. This feature is beneficial because it will help you prevent theft and save money on fuel.
BMW remote parking can be activated by pressing the key fob button. This is a fantastic feature for those living in urban areas where parking is an issue. This allows you to park your car in tight spots without worrying about a driver accidentally smashing into your door. However, it's not the perfect solution. There is still the risk that someone could smash their door into yours when you're away from your vehicle.
The BMW Display Key is an exquisite key fob with a built-in display that offers plenty of information on your car's condition. In addition to the normal functions of a remote, it can display security information, door and window status and forthcoming maintenance requirements on its 2.2-inch screen. bmw extra key can also see your current battery and the fuel level so you know when to stop for gas.
If you'd like to share your BMW you can create different profiles for each driver. The car will automatically adjust settings to suit the driver's preferences, such as the steering wheel, seat lighting, and climate control. You can also set restrictions for teens, like maximum speed limits and volume control on the radio.
The key fobs can be shared with up to five users, but you'll need an appropriate phone and the BMW Connected app installed on it. You can import profiles from your smartphone or set up a guest account for a person who wants to borrow the car. This is one of many useful features that your BMW can provide. There's a lot more to discover!
Battery Replacement
If the batteries on your BMW key fob are running out and you're asking, "Can I replace the battery on a BMW fob?" The answer to this will depend on the type of BMW fob you own. The older diamond-shaped BMW fobs, for instance, are not designed to be used for battery replacement. They are sealed with glue and prying off the backplate will likely cause some damage to the fob. The CR2450 battery or CR2032 can be replaced in older fobs by opening the fob.
For the more popular smart key models (like those in the 1,3, 5, 7, and X series), you can press a small tab to remove the valet key in metal, then open up the access port by using an screwdriver or other thin tool. This should reveal a small groove in the port opening. The valet key can be removed by using the tool to pull the tab out and push it. Replace the battery that was damaged and then replace the cover.
You'll need a different approach if you have a Display key that has a touchscreen. The Display Key is water resistant but not waterproof like a standard fob. You must be cautious about exposing it too much water. It is able to withstand an excursion through the washing machine but it is best to treat it as it's a smartphone. Don't worry about rain, as long as it's kept clear of water.
If you lose your smart key and are worried that it will fall into the wrong hands Our service technicians can also disable the fob, so it cannot be used to unlock or start your car. We can also help you with any repairs needed to the fob, so please contact us for assistance!
