There is a need for societal transformation towards bioeconomy, which promotes the replacement of non-renewable natural resources with renewable ones. PF-9366 price Slovakia has considerable potential for bioeconomy development, yet this potential remains untapped. This article evaluates the public perception regarding the individual properties of renewable and non-renewable materials and their relation to the potential for bioeconomy development in Slovakia. It is found that Slovak consumers prefer natural renewable materials, regardless of other influencing factors, and realise the need for transformation towards a more sustainable economy.African swine fever virus (ASFV) infects domestic pigs and European wild boars with strong, hemorrhagic and high mortality. The primary cellular targets of ASFV is the porcine macrophages. Up to now, no commercial vaccine or effective treatment available to control the disease. In this study, three recombinant Saccharomyces cerevisiae (S. cerevisiae) strains expressing fused ASFV proteins-porcine Ig heavy chains were constructed and the immunogenicity of the S. cerevisiae-vectored cocktail ASFV feeding vaccine was further evaluated. To be specific, the P30-Fcγ and P54-Fcα fusion proteins displaying on surface of S. cerevisiae cells were produced by fusing the Fc fragment of porcine immunoglobulin IgG1 or IgA1 with p30 or p54 gene of ASFV respectively. The recombinant P30-Fcγ and P54-Fcα fusion proteins expressed by S. cerevisiae were verified by Western blotting, flow cytometry and immunofluorescence assay. Porcine immunoglobulin Fc fragment fused P30/P54 proteins elicited P30/P54-specific antibody production and induced higher mucosal immunity in swine. The absorption and phagocytosis of recombinant S. cerevisiae strains in IPEC-J2 cells or porcine alveolar macrophage (PAM) cells were significantly enhanced, too. Here, we introduce a kind of cheap and safe oral S. cerevisiae-vectored vaccine, which could activate the specific mucosal immunity for controlling ASFV infection.
In treating allergic rhinitis, montelukast has the potential to be used as an alternative or addition to an oral antihistamine or intranasal corticosteroid.

The objective of this systematic review was to assess the effectiveness of montelukast in treating allergic rhinitis.

An electronic literature search was performed using the Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials, EMBASE, and MEDLINE from 1966 to 21 January 2019. The eligibility criteria were randomized controlled trials comparing montelukast with placebo or other standard treatments. The primary outcomes assessed were daytime nasal symptom score (DNS) and night-time nasal symptom score (NNS). The secondary outcomes assessed were composite nasal symptom score (CSS), daytime eyes symptom score (DES), and rhinoconjunctivitis quality-of-life questionnaires (RQLQ). The meta-analysis was conducted using Review Manager 5.3 software based on the random-effects model.

Fifteen studies of 10387 participants met the inclusion criteria. Montelukast wa p = 0.010), NNS (MD - 0.16, 95% CI - 0.28 to - 0.05; p = 0.006), CSS (MD - 0.12, 95% CI - 0.25 to - 0.01; p = 0.070), DES (MD - 0.12, 95% CI - 0.30 to 0.06; p = 0.180), and RQLQ (MD - 0.10, 95% CI - 0.28 to 0.08; p = 0.290). Combined montelukast and OAH was superior to montelukast in improving DNS (MD 0.15, 95% CI 0.08-0.21; p < 0.001), NNS (MD 0.05, 95% CI - 0.09 to 0.19; p = 0.510), CSS (MD 0.1, 95% CI 0.03-0.17; p = 0.007), DES (MD 0.18, 95% CI 0-0.36; p = 0.050), and RQLQ (MD 0.07 95% CI - 0.15 to 0.29; p = 0.530).

Montelukast is more effective than placebo in treating the overall symptoms of allergic rhinitis while the combined therapy of montelukast and an oral antihistamine is superior to either montelukast or an oral antihistaminealone.

Lombard & Crous and control crater rot in melon (Cucumis melo L.). Effects of several Chi and CCEO concentrations to inhibit the growth of four P. roridum isolates in vitro, as well as the type of interaction of some combined concentrations of Chi and CCEO was evaluated. Effects of coatings with combined concentrations of Chi and CCEO on development of crater rot lesions in melon artificially inoculated with P. roridum during storage (15 days, 25 °C) were measured. Chi (2.5, 3.75, 5, and 6.75 mg/mL) and CCEO (0.3 and 0.6 μL/mL) led to growth inhibition of the four examined P. roridum isolates. Combinations of Chi (5 mg/mL) and CCEO (0.15 and 0.3 μL/mL) had additive interaction to inhibit P. roridum. Coatings with additive combined concentrations of Chi and CCEO decreased the development and severity of carter rot lesions in melon during room storage regardless of the inoculated P. roridum isolate. Therefore, application of coatings formulated with combined concentrations of Chi and CCEO could be alternative strategies to control crater rot caused by P. roridum in melon and decrease synthetic fungicide use in this fruit.
The 8th edition of the American Joint Committee on Cancer (AJCC) staging led to a significant downstaging of well differentiated thyroid cancer patients. However, some patients who had been downstaged still experienced death. By using data from the thyroid cancer dataset of The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA), we aimed to find molecular features that could improve survival prediction.

TCGA data were downloaded from cBioPortal. Restaging of cases was performed according to the pathological reports.

Out of 496 cases, 204 (41.1%) were downstaged, and the proportion of deaths increased in stages III and IV. TERT promoter mutations were no longer enriched in stage IV only, but significantly redistributed also in stages II and III. TERT mutation was the only alteration predictive of poor survival; however, in this series it was not independent from the AJCC staging. Five proteins (4E-BP1_pT70, Chk1_pS345, Snail, STAT5 alpha and PAI-1) were significantly associated with survival, and their use as a panel refined thstic usefulness of these mutations in low-stage diseases.
Evidence about bone microarchitecture in Asian type 1 diabetes (T1D) patients is lacking. We assessed the bone microarchitecture in T1D patients versus controls and compare the differences between juvenile-onset and adult-onset T1D patients.

This cross-sectional study recruited 32 Asian males with T1D and 32 age-, sex-, and body mass index (BMI)-matched controls. Dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry (DXA) and high-resolution peripheral quantitative computed tomography (HR-pQCT) for ultradistal nondominant radius and tibia were performed. The data were analyzed using Student's t test and analysis of covariance.

Among the patients, 15 had juvenile-onset T1D, with a median disease duration of 11 years, and 17 had adult-onset T1D, with a median disease duration of 7 years. At the radius, adult-onset and juvenile-onset T1D patients had lower total volumetric bone mineral density (vBMD), trabecular vBMD, trabecular bone volume fraction (BV/TV), and trabecular thickness (Tb.Th) (p < 0.05) than the control subjects. After adjusting for BMI, disease duration, and insulin dose, juvenile-onset patients tended to have lower trabecular vBMD, BV/TV, Tb.Th, and intracortical porosity (Ct.Po) than adult-onset patients. At the tibia, adult-onset patients displayed lower total vBMD, lower Ct. vBMD, and higher Ct.Po (p < 0.05), while juvenile-onset patients had lower Tb.Th and standard deviation of trabecular number (1/Tb.N.SD) (p < 0.05) than control subjects. After adjustment for covariates, adult-onset patients tended to have higher cortical pore diameter (Ct.Po.Dm) than juvenile-onset patients.

T1D patients were associated with compromised bone microarchitecture, adult-onset and juvenile-onset T1D patients demonstrated some differences in cortical and trabecular microarchitecture.

To evaluate the risk of mass enlargement and endocrine function modification in patients with adrenal incidentaloma (AI).

In this retrospective study, we examined clinical and hormonal characteristics of 310 patients with AI (200 females and 110 males; age 58.3 ± 12.9 years), followed up for a median (interquartile range) of 31.4 months (13.0-78.6) and evaluated for possible modification in adrenal mass size and hormonal function. The hormonal evaluation included morning serum cortisol and plasma ACTH at 8 a.m., aldosterone, plasma renin activity/direct renin concentration, and 24-h urine metanephrines/normetanephrines. One microgram overnight dexamethasone suppression test (DST) was performed. Autonomous cortisol secretion (ACS) was diagnosed in the presence of cortisol after 1 mg DST > 5 μg/dl (138 nmol/l) or >1.8 and ≤5 μg/dl (50-138 nmol/l) and at least one of the following (i) low ACTH; (ii) increased 24-h urinary-free cortisol; (iii) absence of cortisol rhythm; and (iv) post-LDDST cortisol levss index than those in the first quartile (HR 0.33; 95% CI, 0.14-0.78; P = 0.012).

In patients with AI, the risk of developing hormonal hyperfunction and mass enlargement is overall low, although some tumor characteristics and anthropometric features might increase this risk. Taking account of all these aspects is important for planning a tailored follow-up in AI patients.

Functional hypothalamic amenorrhea (FHA) occurs in response to exaggerated stressors with or without body weight loss. Various hormones, neurotransmitters, and neuromodulators are involved in the control of GnRH and kisspeptin is one of them. Our study aimed to evaluate the putative temporal coupling between kisspeptin and GnRH-induced LH pulsatile secretion.

In total, 71 patients with FHA were selected for this study. All patients undergo to a pulsatility study for LH and kisspeptin evaluation (120 min, sampling every 10 min), and to an endocrine evaluation for prolactin (PRL), estradiol (E2), androstenedione (A), 17-hydroxy-progesterone (17OHP), TSH, fT3, fT4, insulin, cortisol and testosterone (T), glucose, total cholesterol, triglycerides.

Our data demonstrated kisspeptin and LH pulsatile secretions and that both hormones are co-secreted and temporally coupled at time 0 (p < 0.05). When patients were subdivided in hypo-LH (≤3 mIU/ml, n = 58) and normo-LH (>3 mIU/ml, n = 13), more insights were observed on the specific correlations of metabolic and hormone profiles with pulsatility indexes of LH and kisspeptin.
