Phoenix adalah burung legenda yang mirip seekor elang tapi memiliki warna merah menyala seperti api yang terbang di angkasa. Dalam mitologi Mesir; sejenis burung api legendaris yg keramat. Bahasa Yunani: φοῖνιξ— Phoínix, bahasa Latin: Phoenix, bahasa Belanda: Feniks. Burung api ini digambarkan memiliki bulu yang sangat indah berwarna merah dan keemasan. Dikatakan dapat hidup selama 500 atau 1461 tahun. Setelah hidup selama itu, Phoenix membakar dirinya sendiri. Setelah itu,dari abunya munculah burung Phoemix muda. Siklus hidup burung Phoenix seperti itu, reinkarnasi. Dia bangkit kembali setelah mati, lalu muncul sebagai sosok yang baru. Ada yg mengatakan, Phoenix disebut berasal dari matahari. Phoenix adalah burung api mitologi dari Mesir kuno dimana digambarkan sebagai burung yang mati oleh api dan dilahirkan kembali dari api. Biasanya digambarkan mempunyai bulu emas dan merah. Pada akhir kehidupannya, Phoenix diceritakan membangun sarang dari ranting kayu manis dimana kemudian terbakar. Burung musnah oleh api tapi kemudian Phoenix baru yang masih muda muncul dari api yang sama.
