Artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) are rapidly evolving fields in various sectors, including healthcare. This article reviews AI's present applications in healthcare, including its benefits, limitations and future scope.

A truncated p97 protein containing the N and D1 domains and the D1-D2 linker (ND1L) exhibits 79% of wild-type (WT) ATPase activity whereas the ND1 domain alone without the linker only has 2% of WT activity. To investigate the relationship between the D1-D2 linker and the D1 domain, we produced p97 ND1L mutants and demonstrated that this 22-residue linker region is essential for D1 ATPase activity. The conserved amino acid leucine 464 (L464) is critical for regulating D1 and D2 ATPase activity by p97 cofactors p37, p47, and Npl4-Ufd1 (NU). Changing leucine to alanine, proline, or glutamate increased the maximum rate of ATP turnover (kcat) of p47-regulated ATPase activities for these mutants, but not for WT. p37 and p47 increased the kcat of the proline substituted linker, suggesting that they induced linker conformations facilitating ATP hydrolysis. NU inhibited D1 ATPase activities of WT and mutant ND1L proteins, but activated D2 ATPase activity of full-length p97. To further understand the mutant mechanism, we used single-particle cryo-EM to visualize the full-length p97L464P and revealed the conformational change of the D1-D2 linker, resulting in a movement of the helix-turn-helix motif (543-569). Taken together with the biochemical and structural results we conclude that the linker helps maintain D1 in a competent conformation and relays the communication to/from the N-domain to the D1 and D2 ATPase domains, which are ∼50 Å away.
The safety culture of an interventional laboratory was investigated in terms of the application of the three cardinal principles of radiation protection, namely distance, time and shielding.

The application of these principles was observed and recorded with a radiation safety-culture checklist that was compiled by consulting international recommendations. The checklist evaluated the optimal compliance, especially with reference to monitoring of staff exposure, distance from the X-ray source, fluoroscopy techniques pertaining to frame rate, protective devices and personal shielding. The effective radiation dose was measured to the eyes, thyroid, hands and feet of the cardiologist, nurse, floor nurse and radiographer by means of finger dosimeters that were readily available from the local radiation-protection dosimetry service.

The results, after observing 11 procedures, indicated the absence of table and ceiling-suspended shields, and the distance of the cardiologist's and scrub nurse's feet from the X-rt. The safety culture was non-compliant in terms of staff distance being too close to the X-ray tube, the absence of ceiling and table screens, the theatre door not always being completely closed, and for staff without lead eye glasses, wearing dosimeters outside the lead apron at the collar level.

Little is known about the epidemiology of allergic contact dermatitis in the aging US population.

The aim of this study was to describe patch test results in a cohort of older adult patients evaluated in a patch testing clinic in a tertiary medical center.

This study was a retrospective analysis of patch test results of adults 65 years and older from February 2013 to December 2019.

Data from a total of 169 patients 65 years and older were analyzed. Of these patients, 84.6% (143/169) had 1 or more positive reactions on patch testing, 84.6% (121/143) of which were felt to be clinically relevant and received a final diagnosis of allergic contact dermatitis. The most common allergen categories were fragrances (30.1%), preservatives (20.8%), metals (11.0%), medicaments (8.3%), and textile dyes (6.5%). The most common individual allergens were Myroxylon pereirae resin (balsam of Peru), hydroperoxide of linalool, methylisothiazolinone, nickel sulfate, and fragrance mix I. Personal products were by far the most common presumed source of allergen exposure.

These toxicities can significantly impact quality of life and may be dose-limiting. Current guidelines for irCAEs offer only corticosteroids or CPI discontinuation. Evidence supports biologic immunomodulatory therapies when corticosteroids fail or need avoidance. A review of literature from 2010 to 2020 yielded 45 articles, resulting in 185 irCAEs, including bullous pemphigoid-like eruption (n = 55), psoriasis/psoriasiform dermatitis (n = 41), and maculopapular rash (n = 31). Treatments included immunomodulators, intravenous immunoglobulin, aprepitant, acitretin, tetracyclines, and biologic agents. Overall, 92.3% of patients saw improvement or resolution of their rash. Bullous pemphigoid-like eruptions were treated with a tetracycline +/- niacinamide (94.7% success [18/19]), omalizumab (100% success [7/7]), and rituximab (100% success [10/10]). Although prospective research is required, this review provides a comprehensive list of successful, non-corticosteroid treatment options for irCAEs to improve compliance with lifesaving cancer therapy.
It is still unclear whether patients with atopic dermatitis (AD) have an increased risk of developing rheumatoid arthritis (RA).

We aimed to investigate the association between AD and risk of RA using systematic review and meta-analysis.

We searched Medline and EMBASE up to April 2021 using search strategy, including terms for "atopic dermatitis" and "rheumatoid arthritis." Eligible cohort study must compare the incidence of RA between patients with AD and comparators without AD. Eligible case-control study must recruit cases with RA and controls without RA. Then, the study must compare the prevalence of AD between the groups. Point estimates with standard errors from each study were combined using the generic inverse variance method.

The meta-analysis found that AD patients had a significantly higher risk of incident RA than individuals without AD with a pooled odds ratio (OR) of 1.30 (95% confidence interval [CI], 1.17-1.44; I2, 48%).
