Exposure to ultraviolet radiation emitted by indoor tanning devices (sunbeds) has well-documented negative effects on human health, but no clear benefit beyond cosmetic outcomes. Sunbed use is responsible for a significant proportion of both melanoma and non-melanoma skin cancers, especially in patients exposed to this practice in early life, premature skin ageing, immunosuppression, skin burns, and eye damage. Artificial tanning is now seen as a public health issue. In this review we discuss the potential additive effect of indoor tanning, misleading facts regarding sunbed benefit, safety concerns and negative effects on human health, indoor tanning legislation and current position of several international organisations, and the impact of some policies adopted in order to mitigate the effects of this dangerous practice.We report two rare cases of bilateral acquired canaliculops. A 67-year-old woman and an 89-year-old man showed cystic lesions in the medial-upper eyelid on both sides. In both of the cases, re-canalization using dacryoendoscopy was failed because of firm obstruction at the canaliculus and/or junction between the lacrimal sac and nasolacrimal duct. Although 15 cases with canaliculops had been reported previously, only one congenital case showed bilateral canaliculops. The results of our study indicate more complex obstruction in cases with bilateral canaliculops compared to those with unilateral canaliculops.This study presents an ontology that scopes the digital health ecosystem from a consumer-centered perspective. We used a mixed-method analysis on a set of papers collected for a comprehensive review to identify common themes, components, and patterns that repeatedly emerge within Australian-based digital health studies. Three major and four child themes were identified as the foundational aspects of the proposed ontology. The child themes have more precise concept definitions, inherited and distinguishing attributes. Out of 179 recognized concepts, 33 were related to the Healthcare theme; 23 concepts formed a cluster of employed devices under the Technology theme; 40 concepts were associated with Use and Usability factors. 60 other concepts formed the cluster of the consumer-user theme. The theme of Digital Health was seen as being connected to 2 independent clusters. The main cluster embodied 21 extracted concepts, semantically related to "data, information, and knowledge," whilst the second cluster embodied concepts related to "healthcare." Different stakeholders can utilize this ontology to define their landscape of digitally enabled healthcare. The novelty of this work resides in capturing a consumer-centered perspective and the method we used in deriving the ontology - formalizing the results of a systematic review based on data-driven analysis methods.Management of pediatric anophthalmia and resultant micro-orbitism is challenging. The efficacy and safety of treatment methods vary with age as bony changes grow recalcitrant to implants in those at skeletal maturity and osteotomies become technically challenging following frontal sinus pneumatization. This study aims to review methods for managing micro-orbitism and develop an age-based treatment approach. A systematic literature review was conducted. Data were screened and extracted by two investigators and relevant English-language primary-literature was analyzed. Information on sample-size, number of orbits, intervention, age, complications, and prosthetic retention was obtained. Representative case reports are presented, in addition. Nineteen studies met inclusion 294 orbits in 266 patients were treated. Two studies reported distraction-osteogenesis. Two studies utilized bone grafting. Osteotomies were performed in 41 patients from three studies. Use of solid implants was detailed in two studies. Three studies described osmotic implant. Four studies described inflatable implants. Other techniques were described by three of the included studies, two of which utilized dermis-fat grafting. All but one study were observational case reports or case series. Across all studies regardless of surgical technique, risk of bias and heterogeneity was high due to attrition bias and selective outcomes-reporting. Selection of therapy should be tailored to skeletal-age to optimize outcomes; those 0-4 yrs are managed with dermis-fat grafts, 5-7 yrs managed with implants, and 8+ yrs managed with osteotomies. For those 8+ yrs with aerated frontal sinuses or insufficient bone stock, we propose onlay camouflage prosthetics which improve projection, increase orbital volume, and avoid risk for frontal sinus injury.
Family communication about pain is an important therapeutic target when a parent lives with chronic pain. Occupational therapy literature about communication in families affected by parental chronic pain is currently lacking.
To bring an occupational perspective to communication within families affected by parental chronic pain, to generate insights for practice.
Five families (total
= 19 family members) were recruited into this collective case study. The gathered data included interviews, observations, and personal documents/artefacts. A cross-case analysis of similarities and differences between families was conducted to distil insights about the relationship between occupation and communication about parental pain.
Each family develops its own style of communicating about a parent's pain. On a day-to-day basis, pain-related communication is prompted by experienced, observed and/or anticipated occupational disruption brought about by parental pain.
Occupational disruption and occupational responses need to be components of interest, when designing assessments and interventions targeted at communication in families affected by parental chronic pain.
The findings from this study point to the importance of communication through occupation in families affected by parental chronic pain and suggest novel targets for occupational therapy intervention.

Identifying the meaningful goals of people with multiple sclerosis (PwMS) can facilitate tailored treatment plans.
To describe and compare the goals set by PwMS during two interventions, and explore the strategies used to meet their goals, the barriers and facilitators influencing goal achievement.
Data from 56 community-dwelling PwMS were used in this secondary analysis 45 used an interactive fatigue self-management website (MS INFoRm), and 11 received MS INFoRm coupled with occupational performance coaching (OPC) for 3 months. The International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health (ICF) was used to map and compare the goals, strategies, facilitators and obstacles to goal achievement between the groups. Goals were also evaluated for being Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Relevant and Timely (SMART).
Most goals were related to 'looking after one's health' (
= 35) and 'recreation and leisure' (
= 17). Participants who received OPC set more SMART goals (75
24%,
< 0.01). Fatigue management strategies were identified. Personal and environmental factors were found as facilitators and obstacles to goal achievement.
Coaching can help PwMS with goal setting, and to adapt strategies to achieve their goals. Increased awareness of goals set by PwMS may equip clinicians to better assess their clients' needs.

Steering light is relevant to many medical applications that require tissue illumination, sensing, or modification. To control the propagation direction of light beams, a great variety of innovative fiber-optic medical devices have been designed.
This review provides a comprehensive overview of the patent literature on light beam control in fiber-optic medical devices. selleckchem The Web of Science Derwent Innovation Index database was scanned, and 81 patents on fiber-optic devices published in the last 20years (2001-2021) were retrieved and categorized based on the working principle to steer light (refraction/reflection, scattering, diffraction) and the design strategy that was employed (within fiber, at fiber end, outside fiber).

It has ophthalmic, dermatological, and neurological manifestations, with varied presentation. Here, we report a case of two-year-old child who presented with epibulbar mass in left eye, pigmented nevi over left side of the body and alopecia over left side of parieto-temporal scalp. Imaging confirmed epibulbar mass and presence of calcification of choroid on ipsilateral side with presence of arachnoid cyst of brain with underlying pachygyria. Neurological examination was normal and dermatologist confirmed presence of verrucous nevi over skin. Excisional biopsy of epibulbar mass revealed a complex choristoma with presence of lacrimal gland tissue. Underlying ocular findings were near normal with normal posterior segment. It is a rare form of epidermal nevus syndrome with near normal ocular findings in the presence of anterior and posterior choristoma, which has not been reported.
This qualitative review applies an intersectional lens to explore the lived experiences of persons with disabilities (PWDs) living with human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) in accessing HIV services.
Using thematic analysis, the intersections relating to HIV, disability, gender, stigma, and poverty were explored.
Three themes were identified from the analysis (1) intersection of gender, HIV, and disability -
; (2) intersection of stigma, HIV, and disability -
; (3) intersection of poverty, HIV, and disability
. The findings highlighted how stigma, poverty, and gender collide in a hierarchy of identities to impede accessibility to HIV services.
Researchers and programme implementers should note the intersecting issues of marginalisation that influence inequities in access to HIV services for PWDs living with HIV. National Strategic Plans should address these specific barriers to ensure accessibility for this marginalised population.Implications for rehabilitationGovernments within Africa should commit to including persons with disabilities (PWDs) living with human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) in National Strategic Plans (NSPs), which will support disability-inclusive HIV programming.
