Plant litter decomposition is a central process in the carbon (C) cycle and sensitive to ongoing anthropogenic nitrogen (N) fertilisation. Previous syntheses evaluating the effect of N fertilisation on litter decomposition relied largely on models that define a constant rate of mass loss throughout decomposition, which may mask hypothesised shifts in the effect of N fertilisation on litter decomposition dynamics. In this meta-analysis, we compared the performance of four empirical decomposition models and showed that N fertilisation consistently accelerates early-stage but slows late-stage decomposition when the model structure allows for flexibility in decomposition rates through time. Within a particular substrate, early-stage N-stimulation of decomposition was associated with reduced rates of late-stage decay. Because the products of early- vs. late-stage decomposition are stabilised in soils through distinct chemical and physical mechanisms, N-induced changes in the litter decomposition process may influence the formation and cycling of soil C, the largest terrestrial C pool.We studied 27 cases that were post or prenatally diagnosed with body stalk anomaly (BSA) using medical records of prenatal ultrasound findings, pregnancy outcomes, and fetal/neonatal prognosis during 1992 to 2018. Termination of pregnancy was chosen in 15 cases. Of the remaining 12 cases, seven were stillbirths and five were live births. Of seven stillbirths, intrauterine fetal demise occurred before onset of labor in four cases at 17 to 20th weeks of pregnancy. Pregnancy was continued in eight cases. Median gestational age of delivery was 33rd weeks of pregnancy. Median birth weight was 1198 g (range482-1914 g). Vaginal delivery was chosen in six and caesarean delivery in two cases. Among six vaginally delivered cases, three (50%) fetuses were stillborn. All five live born neonates died within a few hours (16-133 minutes). Eighteen cases were confirmed as BSA postnatally by placental examination or autopsy at our hospital. Main prenatal ultrasonographic findings of them were abdominal wall defect (100%), absence of the umbilical cord (72%), abnormal spine (61%), and abnormal legs (50%). The most characteristic prenatal ultrasonography findings of BSA were the absence of free umbilical cord in the amniotic cavity and the presence of abdominal organs into the extraembryonic celom through abdominal wall defects. The autopsy showed severe pulmonary hypoplasia with the median lung/body weight ratio of 0.61% (range0.34-0.85%). There were no cases of maternal morbidities. Our study provides important information about the pregnancy outcome and the fetal/neonatal outcome of BSA cases for the parents whose fetuses are diagnosed with BSA prenatally.
The prognostic value of angina during exercise stress testing is controversial, possibly due to previous studies not differentiating typical from non-typical angina. We aimed to assess the prognostic value of typical angina alone, or in combination with ST depression, during exercise stress testing for predicting cardiovascular events.
We conducted a prospective observational cohort study including all patients who performed a clinical exercise stress test at the department of Clinical Physiology, Kalmar County Hospital between 2005 and 2012. The association between typical angina/ST depression and incident acute coronary syndrome (ACS) and cardiovascular mortality were analysed using Cox regression for long-term and 1-year follow-up.
Out of 11605 patients (median follow-up 6.7years), 623 (5.4%) developed ACS and 319 (2.7%) died from cardiovascular causes. Compared to patients with no angina and no ST depression, typical angina and ST depression were associated with increased risk of future ACS; hazard ratio (HR) 3.5 ([95%CI] 2.6-4.7). This association was even stronger for ACS within one year (typical angina with and without concomitant ST depression; HR 20.8 (13.9-31.3) and 9.7 (6.1-15.4), respectively). Concordance statistics for ST depression in predicting ACS during long-term follow-up was 0.58 (0.56-0.60) and 0.69 (0.65-0.73) for ACS within one year, and 0.64 (0.62-0.66) and 0.77 (0.73-0.81), respectively, when typical angina was added to the model.
Typical angina during exercise stress testing is predictive of future ACS, especially in combination with ST depression, and during the first year after the test.

Their eggs are laid inside the gill chamber of their freshwater mussel hosts where they develop as brood parasites. Studies of the embryonic development of bitterlings are crucial in deciphering the evolution of their distinct early life-history. Here, we have studied 255 embryos and larvae of the rosy bitterling (Rhodeus ocellatus) using in vitro fertilization and X-ray microtomography (microCT). We describe 11 pre-hatching and 13 post-hatching developmental stages spanning the first 14 days of development, from fertilization to the free-swimming stage. In contrast to previous developmental studies of various bitterling species, the staging system we describe is character-based and therefore more compatible with the widely-used stages described for zebrafish. EGCG molecular weight Our bitterling data provide new insights into to the polarity of the chorion, and into notochord vacuolization and yolk sac extension in relation to body straightening. This study represents the first application of microCT scanning to bitterling development and provides one of the most detailed systematic descriptions of development in any teleost. Our staging series will be an important tool for heterochrony analysis and other comparative studies of teleost development, and may provide insight into the co-evolution of brood parasitism.
To reduce complications caused by the procedure, the target layer for thread lifting should be the superficial fat or superficial musculoaponeurotic system of the face. The aim of this study was to establish the thicknesses of the facial skin and superficial fat using a 3D scanning system to provide basic clinical data for thread lifting.
Thirty fixed Korean and Thai cadavers (male 17, female 13) were used. The depths of the skin and superficial fat were measured using a three dimensional (3D) structured-light scanner. Facial images of both undissected and removed skin and superficial fat were taken with the 3D scanner. The paths from the temple and the front of the tragus to the infraorbital, perioral, cheek, and mental areas were displayed on the 3D image. The thickness along the path was measured by calculating the difference between the undissected and dissected 3D images.
The means and standard deviations of thicknesses of the skin and superficial fat were 2.1 ± 0.4 mm and 5.2 ± 1.9 mm in the 11 pathways.
