patients for treatment and prognostication.SARS-CoV-2, the etiologic agent of COVID-19, is a global pandemic with substantial mortality dominated by acute respiratory distress syndrome. We systematically evaluated lungs of 68 autopsies from 3 institutions in heavily hit areas (2 USA, 1 Italy). find more Detailed evaluation of several compartments (airways, alveolar walls, airspaces, and vasculature) was performed to determine the range of histologic features. The cohort consisted of 47 males and 21 females with a median age of 73 years (range 30-96). Co-morbidities were present in most patients with 60% reporting at least three conditions. Tracheobronchitis was frequently present, independent from intubation or superimposed pneumonia. Diffuse alveolar damage (DAD) was seen in 87% of cases. Later phases of DAD were less frequent and correlated with longer duration of disease. Large vessel thrombi were seen in 42% of cases but platelet (CD61 positive) and/or fibrin microthrombi were present at least focally in 84%. Ultrastructurally, small vessels showed basal membrane reduplication and significant endothelial swelling with cytoplasmic vacuolization. In a subset of cases, virus was detected using different tools (immunohistochemistry for SARS-CoV-2 viral spike protein, RNA in situ hybridization, lung viral culture, and electron microscopy). Virus was seen in airway epithelium and type 2 pneumocytes. IHC or in situ detection, as well as viable form (lung culture positive) was associated with the presence of hyaline membranes, usually within 2 weeks but up to 4 weeks after initial diagnosis. COVID-19 pneumonia is a heterogeneous disease (tracheobronchitis, DAD, and vascular injury), but with consistent features in three centers. The pulmonary vasculature, with capillary microthrombi and inflammation, as well as macrothrombi, is commonly involved. Viral infection in areas of ongoing active injury contributes to persistent and temporally heterogeneous lung damage.Impact studies of the Atlantic Multidecadal Variability (AMV) on the climate system are severely limited by the lack of sufficiently long observational records. Relying on a model-based approach is therefore mandatory to overcome this limitation. Here, a novel experimental setup, designed in the framework of the CMIP6-endorsed Decadal Climate Prediction Project, is applied to the CMCC climate model to analyse the remote climate impact of the AMV on the Northern Eurasian continent. Model results show that, during Boreal summer, an enhanced warming associated to a positive phase of the AMV, induces a hemispheric-scale wave-train response in the atmospheric circulation, affecting vast portions of Northern Eurasia. The overall AMV-induced response consists in an upper-tropospheric anomalous flows leading to a rainfall increase over Scandinavia and Siberia and to an intensified river runoff by the major Siberian rivers. A strengthening of Eurasian shelves' stratification, broadly consistent with the anomalous river discharge, is found in the proximity of the river mouths during positive-AMV years. Considering that Siberian rivers (Ob', Yenisei and Lena) account for almost half of the Arctic freshwater input provided by terrestrial sources, the implications of these findings for decadal variability and predictability of the Arctic environment are also discussed.Vegetation concrete is one of the most widely used substrates for slope ecological protection in China. However, there are still some imperfections that are disadvantageous for plant growth, such as high density, low porosity, insufficient nutrient retention ability and so on. In this paper, the effect of wood activated carbon and mineral activated carbon on the physicochemical properties of vegetation concrete is studied. The experimental results show that the activated carbon proportion in vegetation concrete is positively related to the porosity, permeability coefficient, water holding capacity, and nutrient content and retention ability, while it is negatively related to the dry density, water retention ability, cohesive force and internal friction angle. However, it should be noticed that when the proportion exceeds 2%, the average height, aboveground biomass and underground biomass of Cynodon dactylon decrease with increasing proportion of activated carbon. The effect of wood activated carbon is generally more remarkable than that of mineral activated carbon. In addition, according to the research results, the effect of activated carbon on vegetation concrete can last for at least half a year, although it does slowly deteriorate with increasing time. By comprehensive consideration of the current industry standard, previous research results and economical reasoning, the recommended type of activated carbon is wood, with a corresponding suitable proportion ranging between 1 and 2%.One of the major drawbacks of cheminformatics is a large amount of information present in the datasets. In the majority of cases, this information contains redundant instances that affect the analysis of similarity measurements with respect to drug design and discovery. Therefore, using classical methods such as the protein bank database and quantum mechanical calculations are insufficient owing to the dimensionality of search spaces. In this paper, we introduce a hybrid metaheuristic algorithm called CHHO-CS, which combines Harris hawks optimizer (HHO) with two operators cuckoo search (CS) and chaotic maps. The role of CS is to control the main position vectors of the HHO algorithm to maintain the balance between exploitation and exploration phases, while the chaotic maps are used to update the control energy parameters to avoid falling into local optimum and premature convergence. Feature selection (FS) is a tool that permits to reduce the dimensionality of the dataset by removing redundant and non desired , Salp swarm algorithm, and sine-cosine algorithm surfaced in the literature. The experimental results proved that the complexity associated with cheminformatics can be handled using chaotic maps and hybridizing the meta-heuristic methods. The scaffold is a dreamed biomaterial of tissue engineers which can culture cells three-dimensionally outgrowing the two-dimensional cell culture in a petri dish to repair or regenerate tissues and organs. To maximize the performance of this dreamed material, complex three-dimensional (3D) structures should be generated with a simple technique and nontoxic ingredients. Many tissues have tubular or fibrous bundle architectures such as nerve, muscle, tendon, ligament, blood vessel, bone and teeth. The concept of mimicking the extracellualr matrix in real tissue has recently been applied to scaffold development. In this study, a novel method for preparing the poly(L-lactic acid) (PLLA) scaffold with a tubular architecture is presented. Solid-liquid phase-separation was applied to form tubular pores in the scaffold using the directional freezing apparatus. Pores formed in this manner exhibited a fishbone like morphology due to the two crystalline phases of 1,4-dioxane. A tubular diameter of ca. 60-250 μm was achieved by regulating the PLLA concentration and the cooling rate.
