Immunodiagnosis involving cow fascioliasis using a 29 kDa Fasciola gigantica antigen.
Fluorine can negatively interfere with leach and smelting processes during mineral processing. Real-time knowledge of the concentration and mineral hosts of fluorine in a mineral processing ore stream is important to protect process line equipment and product. Currently only offline methods of detection are available. Online sensors that determine specific fluorine-bearing mineral concentration in real-time would enable improved efficiency in processing decisions during mine production. Common excitation wavelengths used for fluorescence studies in minerals frequently provide signals that are not clearly host-specific, and hence of limited utility for mineral identification. We show that upconversion fluorescence, a process in which two or more photons are absorbed and one higher-energy photon is emitted, provides a more host-specific fluorescence output, minimizing spurious signals in complex environments and therefore greatly improving detection thresholds. Natural samples of fluorite (CaF2), a major fluorine host at many mine sites, have been analyzed by near-infrared excitation and have revealed upconversion fluorescence from rare earth inclusions. Upconversion fluorescence was detected in samples with rare earth concentrations as low as one part per million and is therefore considered a potential new sensing modality for real-time fluorite monitoring. We retrospectively reviewed the medical records from 25 pregnant women with liver failure from May 2009 to July 2019. Data describing clinical symptoms and manifestations, routine blood analyses, coagulation, and liver and kidney function were extracted. Swansea criteria were assessed to identify variables with prognostic significance for maternal mortality. The results showed that acute fatty liver was the primary cause of liver failure and 8 (88.89%) patients died within 7 days. Swansea diagnostic criteria for assessing the severity of liver failure were consistent with Chinese guidelines and were more systematic and convenient. The incidence of postpartum haemorrhage was 76%, and the velocity of bleeding was approximately 600 mL per hour. Increased Swansea score, hepatic encephalopathy and decreased PWR were important prognostic indicators for mortality. Recovery during the 7 days postpartum period was an important determinant of maternal outcomes. Impact statement What is already known on this subject? Lial outcomes. Our findings may prompt researchers to conduct a large multicentre study to evaluate the prognostic indicators for mortality in pregnant women with liver failure.Bones self-optimize their mechanical behavior in response to mechanical stimulus. The objective of this research was to develop an integrated bone remodeling and stress binning algorithms into a finite element environment to elucidate the evolution of the bone properties as a function of loading. The bone remodeling algorithm was used to calculate the change in the density and elastic modulus based on the strain energy stimulus. The stress-binning procedure seeks to assign the properties to each element based on the levels of stress from the previous cycle, eliminating pseudo-lazy-zoning and stress dilation effects. The developed algorithms were used to analyze the response skull to loading associated with orthodontic devices. Specifically, a load was applied between the roots of the canine teeth and the first premolars while constraining the foramen magnum. Full-field contours of the displacement, strain, and strain energy were extracted after each remodeling cycle at nine commonly cephalometric landmarks. The results indicate that the overall mechanical response and the associated properties reached a steady-state behavior after nearly 50 cycles of applying the algorithm, where different zones within the skull exhibited unique evolution based on the locations from the loading and boundary sites. When approaching this steady-state condition, it was found that the upper incisor displacement is reduced by 72%, and the density is reduced by almost 7.5%. The finite element approach can be used in defining the treatment process by dynamically changing the loads. Future research will focus on integrating the time-dependent behavior of the bone.Ischemic stroke, which is caused by a sudden clot in the blood vessels, may cause severe brain tissue damage and has become a leading cause of death globally. Currently, thrombolysis is the gold standard primary treatment of ischemic stroke in clinics. However, the short therapeutic window of opportunity limits thrombolysis utility. Secondary cerebral damage caused by stroke is also an urgent problem. In this review, we discuss the present methods of treating ischemic stroke in clinics and their limitations. Various new drug delivery strategies targeting ischemic stroke lesions have also been summarized, including pharmaceutical methods, diagnostic approaches and other routes. These strategies could change the pharmacokinetic behavior, improve targeted delivery or minimize side effects. A better understanding of the novel approaches utilized to facilitate drug delivery in ischemic stroke would improve outcomes.Respiratory masks are used to deliver non-invasive ventilation for cardiorespiratory pathologies. Masks must minimize skin tissue compression while maintaining a seal at the interface. Ill-fitting masks or those applied too tightly are implicated in pressure ulcer formation. This study aimed to analyse respiratory mask goodness of fit in a cohort of face shapes. A number of parameters were identified and analysed with a novel registration protocol. In the majority of cases, mask indentation exceeded the thickness of the interface material and significant gapping was observed. The size range was most appropriate for males, with only one size suitable for females.Access to high-quality mhealth tools for diabetes management is critical. The purpose was to systematically review mobile apps for features relevant to helping emerging adults manage their diabetes as they transition to independent diabetes monitoring. Mobile apps were reviewed for relevance to emerging adults, aged 18-25, living with diabetes. The GooglePlay store was systematically searched to identify diabetes management mobile tools. see more Of the 29 apps, only one app had any features relevant to emerging adults. In total, 20 apps had a feature to share a copy of diet or blood sugar logs with a family member or provider. Only 9 apps had any interactivity other than tracking. While most apps had graphics, only 5 were deemed high quality. Just one app met all three included Mobile Application Rating Scale (MARS) criteria. This review serves as a starting point to guide educators and patients, especially to aid continuity of care when in-person support is not feasible. Ongoing review of new apps with improved functionality and effectiveness studies of the apps' impact on emerging adults' diabetes management is imperative. This study aimed to investigate the influencing factors of missed abortion during the two-child peak period in China. 220 pregnant women were divided into observation (presence of missed abortion, 100 cases) and control group (no presence of missed abortion, 120 cases). The single factor analysis of clinical data showed that, advanced age, premarital examination, genitalia abnormality, luteal insufficiency, spouse semen abnormality, mycoplasma infection, chlamydia infection, sexually transmitted diseases, perm or dyeing hair in pregnancy, radiation overload, primipara, spontaneous abortion history, smoking, drinking and overly intimate with pets had significant difference between observation and control group (p  less then  .05). The logistic regression analysis results showed that, the advanced age, genital abnormality, luteal insufficiency, spouse sperm abnormality, pregnancy infection, primipara, spontaneous abortion history and bad life habits were the main risk factors of missed abortion. In the intervention for prevention of missed abortion, these factors should be paid more attention. Impact statement What is already known on this subject? There are many complex factors affecting the embryonic development and causing the missed abortion. What do the results of this study add? The advanced age, genital abnormality, luteal insufficiency, spouse sperm abnormality, pregnancy infection, primipara, spontaneous abortion history and bad life habits are the main risk factors of missed abortion. What are the implications of these findings for clinical practice and/or further research? These findings can provide a theoretical basis for the further prevention of missed abortion. Our previous study has demonstrated that epidermal growth factor (EGF) with tocotrienol-rich fraction (TRF) cream formulation accelerating postburn wound healing with deep partial-thickness burn in rats. Current study was conducted to determine the gene expression levels related to burn wound healing process. A total of 180 Sprague-Dawley rats were randomly divided into 6 groups untreated control, treated with Silverdin cream, base cream, base cream with 0.00075% EGF, base cream with 3% TRF or base cream with 0.00075% EGF, and 3% TRF, respectively. Burn wounds were created and the above-mentioned creams were applied once daily. Six animals from each group were sacrificed on days 3, 7, 11, 14, and 21 postburn. RNA was extracted from wound tissues and quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction was performed to analyze the 9 wound healing-related genes against time postburn. Results demonstrated that topically applied EGF + TRF formulation downregulated the expression levels of IL-6 (interluekin-6), TNF-α (tumor necrosis factor-α) and iNOS (inducible nitric oxide synthase) throughout the whole healing process. TGF-β1 (transforming growth factor-β) and VEGF-A (vascular endothelial growth factor-A) were reduced on day 14 postburn. On the contrary, increased expression of Collagen-1 in the early stage of wound healing was observed with no effects on epidemal growth factor receptor (EGFR). The results showed beneficial application of EGF + TRF cream in the treatment of burn wound since it accelerated wound healing by relieving oxidative stress, decreasing inflammation, and promoting proper tissue modelling in the burn wound.Trp8Arg polymorphism of the LH beta gene has decreased bioactivity in vivo and previous studies showed conflicting data on the effect of LH beta gene polymorphism on the IVF outcome. In this study, 591 IVF patients were recruited. Patients with the variant allele(s) were the carrier group. In GnRH antagonist cycles, the clinical pregnancy rate was significantly lower in the carrier group (18.9%) than in the noncarrier group (37.1%). In long GnRH agonist cycles, the clinical pregnancy rate was comparable between both groups. To clarify the effect of COH protocols, IVF outcomes in the GnRH antagonist and long GnRH agonist protocol groups in carriers were analysed. Among carriers, the clinical pregnancy rate was significantly lower in the GnRH antagonist protocol group (18.9%) than in the long GnRH agonist protocol group (45.2%). Single nucleotide polymorphism analysis may contribute to the individualisation of COH protocols for each patient in the future. Impact Statement What is already known on this subject? Trp8Arg polymorphism of the LH beta gene is known to have decreased bioactivity in vivo.
