COVID-19 has a stronger transmission capacity by inhalation of infectious aerosols and after an incubation time of 3-14 days, it may be responsible for diseases ranging from the asymptomatic to fatal consequences. COVID-19 has emerged as a multifaceted, multisystem, multi-organ disorder, which produces its pathogenic effects through a quite ubiquitous target at the level of multiple organs and in which oxidative stress and inflammatory process play relevant roles. Thus, besides the development of a pharmacological therapy, in the field of alternative and coadjutant therapeutic, the use of dietary supplements or nutraceuticals for the prevention or treatment of SARS-CoV-2 infection may be a useful strategy. Herein, we specifically comment on some literature evidences, which link the food-derived antioxidants and metal-chelating agents with treatment and prevention of oxidative stress and inflammation that play a key role in the progression of COVID-19. PRACTICAL APPLICATIONS Oxidative stress and inflammation are key factors increasing COVID-19 severity especially in the presence of chronic diseases associated with the antioxidant system fragility. These evidences support the recommendation of antioxidants supplementation as useful strategies against COVID-19. In light with these observations, herein, a comment which describes the major antioxidants and metal-chelating agents from food sources that might be useful for the treatment and prevention of oxidative stress and inflammation during COVID-19.Although Ru(bpy)32+ -doped silica nanoparticles have been widely explored as the labelling tags for electrochemiluminescence (ECL) sensing different targets, the poor electrical conductive properties of the silica nano-matrix greatly limit their ECL sensitivity. Therefore, a novel scheme to overcome this drawback on Ru(bpy)32+ -doped silica nanoparticles ECL is desirable. Here, a new scheme for this purpose was developed based on electrochemically depositing a nanoscale chitosan hydrogel layer on the carbon nanotube (CNT) surface to form chitosan hydrogel shell@CNT core nanocomposites. In this case, the nanoscale chitosan hydrogel layer only formed on the CNT surface due to the superior electrocatalytic effect of CNT on H+ reduction compared with the basic glass carbon electrode. Due to both the superhydrophilic properties and polyelectrolyte features of nanoscale chitosan hydrogel on the CNT surface, chemical affinity as well as the electric conductivity between Ru(bpy)32+ -doped silica nanoparticles and CNT were obviously enhanced, and then the ECL effectivity of Ru(bpy)32+ inside silica nanoparticles was improved. Furthermore, based on the discriminative interaction of these Ru(bpy)32+ -doped silica nanoparticles towards both the ssDNA probes and the ssDNA probe/miRNA complex, as well as the specific adsorption effect of these nanoparticles on the nanoscale chitosan shell@Nafion/CNT core-modified glass carbon electrode, a highly sensitive ECL method for miRNA determination was developed and successfully used to detect miRNA in human serum samples. We appreciate the thoughtful comments of Lejia Sun et al, who make three points related to our recently published article. First, they state, "the patients' baseline characteristics in the HCC group were very different from those in the control cohort." In our report, we highlighted that the identified markers were not diagnostic but prognostic markers. Nanofluids are among the hottest research topics currently studied in the literature due to their interesting thermal and rheological properties. Graphene nanosheet with unique physicochemical properties is a good alternative as a nanofluid component and a lubricant. In this study, the behavior of nanofluidic films on the material was investigated by using scanning probe techniques, phase-contrast microscopy, and friction force microscopy techniques. Due to stick-slip behavior and rheological properties that are dominant in the studied ranges, problems were encountered in performing tribological analyzes with friction force microscopy. On the other hand, these results have been beneficial in determining tribological factors in nanoscale. The presented nanofluids showed non-Newtonian behavior at high concentrations and shear rates and shown an improved tribological performance up to 43% in friction coefficient, 91% in wear, and 46% in thermal conductivity compared to the base oil.
Previously, we determined that four-branched histidine-lysine (HK) peptides were effective carriers of plasmids and small interfering RNA. In the present study, we compared several branched HK carriers and, in particular, two closely-related H3K4b and H3K(+H)4b peptides for their ability as carriers of mRNA. The H3K(+H)4b peptide differed from its parent analogue, H3K4b, by only a single histidine in each branch.

A series of four-branched HK peptides with varied sequences was synthesized on a solid-phase peptide synthesizer. The ability of these peptides to carry mRNA expressing luciferase to MDA-MB-231 cells was investigated. With gel retardation and heparin displacement assays, the stability of HK polyplexes was examined. We determined the intracellular uptake of HK polyplexes by flow cytometry and fluorescence microscopy. The size and polydispersity index of the polyplexes in several media were measured by dynamic light scattering.

MDA-MB-231 cells transfected by H3K(+H)4b-mRNA polyplexes expressed 10-fold greater levels of luciferase than H3K4b polyplexes. With gel retardation and heparin displacement assays, the H3K(+H)4b polyplexes showed greater stability than H3K4b. Intracellular uptake and co-localization of H3K(+H)4b polyplexes within acidic endosomes were also significantly increased compared to H3K4b. Similar to H3K(+H)4b, several HK analogues with an additional histidine in the second domain of their branches were effective carriers of mRNA. When combined with DOTAP liposomes, H3K(+H)4b was synergistic in delivery of mRNA.

H3K(+H)4b was a more effective carrier of mRNA than H3K4b. Mechanistic studies suggest that H3K(+H)4b polyplexes were more stable than H3K4b polyplexes. Lipopolyplexes formed with H3K(+H)4b markedly increased mRNA transfection.

As discussed in this review, the molecular and cellular components within the microcirculation orchestrate critical processes to establish functional capillary beds, including organization of endothelial cell (EC) polarity, guiding investment of vascular pericytes (PCs), and building the specialized extracellular matrix (ECM) that comprises the vascular basement membrane (vBM). Herein, we further discuss the unique features of the microvasculature in the central nervous system (CNS), focusing on the cells contributing to the neurovascular unit (NVU) that form and maintain the blood-brain barrier (BBB). With a focus on vascular PCs, we offer basic and clinical perspectives on neurovascular-related pathologies that involve defects within the cerebral microvasculature. Specifically, we present microvascular anomalies associated with glioblastoma multiforme (GBM) including defects in vascular-immune cell interactions and associated clinical therapies targeting microvessels (ie, vascular-disrupting/anti-angiogenic agents and focused ultrasound). We also discuss the involvement of the microcirculation in stroke responses and potential therapeutic approaches. Our goal was to compare the cellular and molecular changes that occur in the microvasculature and NVU, and to provide a commentary on factors driving disease progression in GBM and stroke. We conclude with a forward-looking perspective on the importance of microcirculation research in developing clinical treatments for these devastating conditions.Due to indispensable ligands, polluted organic solution, or complex vapour deposition, stable CsPbBr3 film is hard to be prepared directly using a simple and environmentally friendly method. To improve the stability of CsPbBr3 film and its synthesis methods, the double-films solid phase reaction was developed, and Cs4 PbBr6 /CsPbBr3 composites were designed. Although the synthesized particle had a size of 2-5 μm, much larger than that of quantum dots, in ambient conditions the composites films still showed good photoluminescence properties, with the highest photoluminescence quantum yield of 80%. It had good stability against air, temperature and humidity, and even had interesting fluorescence-enhanced phenomenon after about 4 days.In this work, the effects of substrates on volatile flavor compounds of Shanghai smoked fish (SSF) from grass carp was investigated by head space-solid-phase microextraction-gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (HS-SPME-GC-MS) by changing the ratios of soy sauce (15%-25%) to white sugar (10%-20%) and replacing white sugar with reducing sugar (glucose, fructose, and ribose). The results showed the key volatile flavor compounds (ROAV ≥ 1) of SSF were 2,4-decadienal, p-xylene, nonanal, and 1-octen-3-ol with the relative contents of 10.33, 1.14, 4.84, and 1.76%, respectively. Furthermore, the existence of soy sauce had an enhancing role in the production of pyrazines, but no significant difference in white sugar. The contents of isovaleraldehyde and benzeneacetaldehyde were increased when white sugar was replaced with glucose, octanol, and 2-pentyl furan for fructose, no obvious difference in ribose. Moreover, the optimal ratios of soaking solutions were 20% soy sauce and 15% white sugar based on the scoring method of sensory evaluation. This study will provide a theoretical basis for the formation of volatile flavor compounds of SSF. PRACTICAL APPLICATIONS Grass carp usually grows in freshwater such as pond or lake, but bacteria with earthy smell are easily attached to plankton such as diatom and cyanobacteria leading to the accumulation of bad odor substances through the food chain. Shanghai smoked fish (SSF) deeply loved by public is a traditional special dish with crispy crust and delicious taste. The attractive flavor of grass carp could be increased with the help of the Maillard reaction (MR) and seasonings. Therefore, the effect of the MR on the volatile flavor compounds of SSF was investigated by HS-SPME-GC/MS in this work. A detailed study on the volatile flavor compounds of Shanghai smoked fish could not only enrich the theoretical knowledge of flavor chemistry of freshwater fish, but have a profound contribution to the development of freshwater fish processing techniques.
