Obesity is a major health risk, with junk food consumption playing a central role in weight gain, because of its high palatability and high-energy nutrients. The Cafeteria (CAF) diet model for animal experiments consists of the same tasty but unhealthy food products that people eat (e.g. hot dogs and muffins), and considers variety, novelty and secondary food features, such as smell and texture. This model, therefore, mimics human eating patterns better than other models. In this paper, we systematically review studies that have used a CAF diet in behavioral experiments and propose a standardized CAF diet protocol. The proposed diet is ad libitum and voluntary; combines different textures, nutrients and tastes, including salty and sweet products; and it is rotated and varied. Our summary of the behavioral effects of CAF diet show that it alters meal patterns, reduces the hedonic value of other rewards, and tends to reduce stress and spatial memory. So far, no clear effects of CAF diet were found on locomotor activity, impulsivity, coping and social behavior.
Transgender men are assigned female sex at birth, but identify as men. The anabolic and androgenic sex hormone testosterone has been positively associated with aggression. Therefore, transgender men are warned of increasing aggression when initiating testosterone therapy.
To explore the literature regarding the effects of testosterone therapy on aggression-related constructs in transgender men.
Following PRISMA-guidelines, PsycINFO, MEDLINE®, EMBASE, and PubMed® were searched in November 2019. Risk of bias was analyzed using the Newcastle-Ottawa-Scale, and result-synthesis was grouped by aggression-outcome.
Seven prospective cohort studies investigating aggression-dimensions pre- and post-testosterone therapy, reporting on data from 664 transgender men, were eligible. The studies had moderate to high risk of bias due to non-randomization, lack of appropriate control groups, and reliance on self-report. The behavioral tendency to react aggressively increased in three studies out of four (at three monthmpact on aggression-related constructs. However, the available studies carried a risk of bias, which indicates a need for further research.In cooperatively breeding cichlid fish, the early social environment has lifelong effects on the offspring's behaviour, life-history trajectories and brain gene expression. Here, we asked whether the presence or absence of parents and subordinate helpers during early life also shapes fluctuating levels of cortisol, the major stress hormone in the cichlid Neolamprologus pulcher. We found that N. pulcher have a peak of their circadian cortisol cycle in the early morning, and that they habituated to the experimental procedure after four days. Therefore, we sampled the experimental fish in the afternoon after four days of habituation. -F fish had significantly lower baseline cortisol levels, whereas stress-induced cortisol levels did not differ between treatments. Thus, we show that the early social environment has life-long effects on aspects of the physiological stress system of the Hypothalamic-Pituitary-Interrenal (HPI) axis. We discuss how these differences in physiological state may have contributed to the specialization in different social and life-history trajectories of this species.To address the COVID-19 pandemic, there has been an unprecedented global effort to advance potent neutralizing mAbs against SARS-CoV-2 as therapeutics. However, historical efforts to advance antiviral monoclonal antibodies (mAbs) for the treatment of other respiratory infections have been met with categorical failures in the clinic. By investigating the mechanism by which SARS-CoV-2 and similar viruses spread within the lung, along with available biodistribution data for systemically injected mAb, we highlight the challenges faced by current antiviral mAbs for COVID-19. We summarize some of the leading mAbs currently in development, and present the evidence supporting inhaled delivery of antiviral mAb as an early intervention against COVID-19 that could prevent important pulmonary morbidities associated with the infection.
To investigate genetics, electrophysiology, and clinical course of KCNV2-associated retinopathy in a cohort of children and adults.

Review of clinical notes and molecular genetic testing. Full-field electroretinography (ERG) recordings, incorporating the international standards, were reviewed and quantified and compared with age and recordings from control subjects.
In total, 230 disease-associated alleles were identified from 117 patients, corresponding to 75 different KCNV2 variants, with 28 being novel. The mean age of onset was 3.9 years old. All patients were symptomatic before 12 years of age (range, 0-11 years). Decreased visual acuity was present in all patients, and 4 other symptoms were common reduced color vision (78.6%), photophobia (53.5%), nyctalopia (43.6%), and nystagmus (38.6%). After a mean follow-up of 8.4 years, the mean best-corrected visual acuity (BCVA ± SD) decreased from 0.81 ± 0.27 to 0.90 ± 0.31 logarithm of minimalng the unmet need for trials of novel therapeutics.
We compared the ability of ophthalmologists to identify neovascularization (NV) in patients with proliferative diabetic retinopathy using swept-source optical coherence tomography angiography (SS-OCTA) and fluorescein angiography (FA).
Retrospective study comparing diagnostic instruments.
Eyes with proliferative diabetic retinopathy or severe nonproliferative diabetic retinopathy and a high suspicion of NV based on clinical examination were imaged using SS-OCTA and FA at the same visit. Two separate grading sets consisting of scrambled, anonymized SS-OCTA and FA images were created. The ground truth for presence of NV was established by consensus of 2 graders with OCTA experience who did not participate in the subsequent assessment of NV in this study. The 2 anonymized image sets were graded for presence or absence of NV by 12 other graders that included 2 residents, 6 vitreoretinal fellows, and 4 vitreoretinal attending physicians. The percentage of correct grading of NV using SS-OCTA and FA was assessed for each grader and across grader training levels.
