CONCLUSION Pretreatment with aqueous extract of A. cepa may protect from the neuronal damage in I/R-induced retinal injury in mice by altering the expression of neurotrophic factor. OBJECTIVE Hepatitis C virus (HCV) has been proposed as a possible etiologic factor in ocular adnexal marginal zone lymphoma (OAML). We aimed to assess the prevalence of HCV infection in patients with OAML through a systematic review and meta-analysis. METHODS Electronic databases were searched from their inception to August 2019 for studies assessing HCV seroprevalence in patients with OAML. Pooled prevalence of HCV infection was calculated with 95 % confidence interval (CI). Statistical heterogeneity among studies was quantified via the inconsistency index (I2). Funnel plot symmetry was used to assess the risk of bias across studies. RESULTS Nine studies with 360 patients were included. Overall pooled prevalence of HCV in OAML was 12.7 %, with low statistical heterogeneity (I2 = 17.4 %) and with asymmetrical funnel plot. The studies clustered into two groups 5 studies (3 from Italy and 2 multicenter with a major Italian contribution) showed a higher HCV prevalence in OAML (15.6 %), while the other 4 (from countries other than Italy) showed a lower prevalence (4.7 %); in both subgroups, statistical heterogeneity was null (I2 = 0%) and funnel plot was symmetrical. CONCLUSION HCV might be a significant etiologic factor of OAML in Italy. OBJECTIVE To investigate the role and mechanisms of HAUSP (Herpesvirus Associated Ubiquitin Specific Protease) and NANOG in pathogenesis of malignant human gliomas progression. METHODS Lentivirus-mediated HAUSP over-expression and RNAiHAUSP mediated HAUSP down-regulation were established in the glioma cells (U87 and U251 cell lines). Firstly, Real-time qPCR, western-blot (WB) and immunofluorescence staining were performed to detect mRNA levels, protein expressions and deposition of HAUSP and NANOG in the glioma cells, respectively. Then cell proliferation, invasion, apoptosis and xenograft tumor growth in nude mice were assessed by using cell counting kit-8 (CCK-8) assay, transwell assay, flow cytometry (FCM) and Hematoxylin-Eosin (HE) staining. RESULTS We first demonstrated HAUSP was significantly increased in lentivirus- mediated HAUSP over-expression cells compared to the Control group. HAUSP over-expression could upregulate genes involved in proliferation and invasion such as NANOG. However, the mRNA of NANOG had no significant changes. Similarly, in RNAiHAUSP mediated HAUSP down-regulation group, HAUSP were significantly decreased compared to the Control group. Simultaneously, NANOG protein were decreased significantly, which decreased the proliferation and invasion, increased the apoptosis rate of glioma cells. Finally, low expression of HAUSP could suppress xenograft tumors growth in nude mice in different periods. CONCLUSION This study revealed that HAUSP-NANOG pathway is a key target to inhibit glioma cells proliferation, and NANOG play important role in the formation and evolution of glioma cells. The regulation of HAUSP could change the biological activity of glioma cells through regulate NANOG expression. Triple-negative breast carcinoma (TNBC) is a subtype of breast carcinoma defined by negativity for estrogen receptor (ER) or progesterone receptor (PR) by immunohistochemical analysis and negativity for human epidermal growth factor receptor (Her2) by immunohistochemistry or in situ hybridization. TNBC is clinically marked by its high aggressiveness, particularly poor outcomes including a low survival rate, and the lack of specific and effective treatments. Therefore, new potential targets for the treatment of TNBC must be identified. This review summarizes recent evidence supporting novel targets and possible therapeutic regimens in the treatment of TNBC. Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is the most predominant type of primary liver cancer and has a high degree of malignancy as well as mortality rate. Many drivers are involved in the development and progression of HCC. A recent study has reported that high BICD cargo adaptor 1 (BICD1) expression indicates poor prognosis of glioblastoma. But, the expression and biological function of BICD1 in HCC remain unclear. In current study, we found that the expression of BICD1 was markedly up-regulated in HCC tissues compared to adjacent nontumor tissues. GEPIA dataset and GSE datasets were consistently indicated the elevated expression of BICD1 in HCC. Furthermore, BICD1 was highly expressed in HCC cell lines including Hep3B, Huh7, MHCC97H and HCCLM3 as compared with that in LO2 cells. High BICD1 expression was positively correlated with malignant clinical features, such as tumor size ≥ 5 cm, venous infiltration and advanced tumor stages. HCC patients highly expressing BICD1 showed a significant shorter overall survival compared to BICD1 low-expression cases. Moreover, TCGA-LIHC data further demonstrated that the up-regulated BICD1 expression predicted poor prognosis of HCC patients. see more Next, we revealed that BICD1 knockdown prominently suppressed the proliferation, migration and invasion of HCCLM3 cells. Conversely, ectopic expression of BICD1 remarkably facilitated these malignant behaviors of Hep3B cells. Interestingly, BICD1 knockdown abolished hypoxia-induced HCC cell proliferation, migration and invasion. In conclusion, we provide the first evidence to support that BICD1 functions as a predictor for the prognosis of HCC and may serve as a promising therapeutic target for further HCC treatment. WEBINO (wall-eyed bilateral internuclear ophthalmoplegia) syndrome is characterized by bilateral adduction impairment, nystagmus of the abducting eye, and primary gaze exotropia. We present the case of a 68 year-old man who was initially attended in emergency department with sudden onset diplopia. Neurological exploration revealed WEBINO and gait ataxia. Relevant medical history included liver transplantation and subsequent tacrolimus prescription. Complementary exams revealed ischemic lesion in mesencephalic tegmentum, involving medial longitudinal fasciculus and pretectal area. WEBINO syndrome is unfrequent. Among its etiologies, ischemic and demyelinating are the most frequent. In our case, iatrogenic etiology was also considered. Clinical recognition of this syndrome is required to perform adequate exams in order to reach diagnosis.
