Public health measures to stem the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic are challenged by social, economic, health status, and cultural disparities that facilitate disease transmission and amplify its severity. Prior pre-clinical biomedical technologic advances in nucleic acid-based vaccination enabled unprecedented speed of conceptualization, development, production, and widespread distribution of mRNA vaccines that target SARS-CoV-2's Spike (S) protein.
Twenty-five female and male volunteer fulltime employees at the Providence VA Medical Center participated in this study to examine longitudinal antibody responses to the Moderna mRNA-1273 vaccine. IgM-S and IgG-S were measured in serum using the Abbott IgM-S-Qualitative and IgG2-S-Quantitative chemiluminescent assays.
Peak IgM responses after Vaccine Dose #1 were delayed in 6 (24%) and absent in 7 (28%) participants. IgG2-S peak responses primarily occurred 40 to 44 days after Vaccine Dose #1, which was also 11 to 14 days after Vaccine Dose #2.ialog about future re-boosting requirements to ensure long-lasting immunity via mRNA vaccination versus natural infection.

Relative exercise intensity (% oxygen uptake reserve) was quantified for two men's semi-professional basketball matches. Live play period durations were automatically determined using a moving average sample window and relative exercise intensity threshold, and manually determined using annotation of video footage. The sample window duration and intensity threshold were optimised to determine the input parameters for the automated method that would result in the most similarity to the manual method. These input parameters were used to compare the automated and manual active play period durations in another men's semi-professional match and a women's professional match to assess the criterion validity of the automated method. The optimal input parameters were a 9-s sample window and relative exercise intensity threshold of 31% oxygen uptake reserve. The automated method showed good relative (ρ = 0.95-0.96 and ICC = 0.96-0.98, p less then 0.01) and absolute (median bias = 0 s) agreement with the manual method. These findings support the use of an automated method using accelerometry-derived relative exercise intensity and a moving average sample window to detect live play periods in basketball.Background Accuracy and reproducibility are vital in science and presents a significant challenge in the emerging discipline of data science, especially when the data are scientifically complex and massive in size. Further complicating matters, in the field of genomic-based science high-throughput sequencing technologies generate considerable amounts of data that needs to be stored, manipulated, and analyzed using a plethora of software tools. Researchers are rarely able to reproduce published genomic studies. Results Presented is a novel approach which facilitates accuracy and reproducibility for large genomic research data sets. All data needed is loaded into a portable local database, which serves as an interface for well-known software frameworks. These include python-based Jupyter Notebooks and the use of RStudio projects and R markdown. All software is encapsulated using Docker containers and managed by Git, simplifying software configuration management. With these insights come the associated challenge of scientific data that is complex and massive in size. To address these challenges the NGS post-pipeline accuracy and reproducibility system (NPARS) was developed. NPARS is a robust software infrastructure and methodology that can encapsulate data, code, and reporting for large genomic studies. Anxiety is among the most prevalent mood disorders in Lewy Body Disease (LBD) (i.e., Parkinson's disease (PD), Dementia with Lewy bodies DLB), and those at-risk for developing LBD (e.g. link2 isolated REM Sleep Behaviour Disorder (iRBD)). Yet, there is little consensus on which clinical scale best evaluates anxiety across synuclein-based diseases.
This study compared the convergent validity of commonly used anxiety scales across PD, DLB and iRBD patients.
Anxiety was assessed using the Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale (HADS-A), State-Trait Anxiety Inventory (STAI), MDS-UPDRS Anxiety item, and the Parkinson Anxiety Scale (PAS) in 57 participants (17 PD, 16 DLB, and 23 iRBD).
Across all groups, PAS total score was significantly associated with trait anxiety (STAI-Y2), whilst HADS-A was associated with PAS total score in the PD and iRBD group. In DLB patients, HADS-A was weakly associated with PAS total score, and significantly correlated with PAS episodic anxiety. Notably, the anxiety item from the MDS-Ual cohorts.

3,553 samples were collected between 01/12/2018 and 31/08/2019 from adult critical care wards (universal screening - admission, discharge and weekly), from medical wards with risk-factor based screening according to the prevailing Public Health England (PHE) carbapenemase-producing Enterobacteriaceae (CPE) screening guidelines, or on an ad hoc basis. Prevalence was defined as previously documented positive CPO colonisation, or new positive status, as a proportion of all eligible samples. Incidence was defined as all newly positive patients per 1,000 patient-days.
Overall CPO prevalence was 2.1% (95% CI 1.61-2.58%). Inpatient prevalence was significantly higher at 2.6% vs outpatient at 0.5% (

We included 3920 consecutive patients that underwent cardiac surgery via median sternotomy at our centre from 2009 thru 2018. All patients were followed up two months postoperatively. The rate of sternal wound infection before and after 2015 were compared. Logistic multivariable analysis was used to adjust for potential confounders.
