With the identification of physiological and genetic components related to rice HNT response, this study offers promising prebreeding materials and trait targets to sustain yield stability under climate change. To investigate the clinical features, treatment and prognosis of critical illness polyneuromyopathy (CIPNM) in patients with severe traumatic brain injury (sTBI) who had positive anti-ganglioside GM1 (anti-GM1) antibody IgG. A case of CIPNM with positive anti-GM1 antibody IgG was retrospectively analysed and followed-up for 30 months. After 1 week of treatment with large dose of short-term glucocorticoid and human immunoglobulin, the muscle strength of both lower extremities was restored to grade 1. Three months later, the muscle strength and muscle tension of the patient's limbs returned to normal except for grade 3 of bilateral dorsal extensor muscle strength. In addition, the patient can walk alone with a waddling gait. After 30 months, there was no recurrence. The application of large dose of short-term glucocorticoid and human immunoglobulin to CIPNM that are positive for anti-GM1 antibodies may be an effective treatment.A key facet of floral scent is diel fluctuations in emission, often studied in the context of plant-pollinator interactions, while contributions of environment and phylogeny remain overlooked. Here, we ask if these factors are involved in shaping temporal variations in scent emission. compoundW13 To that end, we coupled light/dark floral emission measurements of 17 desert Brassicaceae species with environmental and phylogenetic data to explore the individual/combined impacts of these predictors on diel emission patterns. We further investigated these patterns by conducting high-resolution emission measurements in a subset of genetically distant species with contrasting temporal dynamics. While diel shifts in magnitude and richness of emission were strongly affected by genetic relatedness, they also reflect the environmental conditions under which the species grow. Specifically, light/dark emission ratios were negatively affected by an increase in winter temperatures, known to impact both plant physiology and insect locomotion, and sandy soil fractions, previously shown to exert stress that tempers with diel metabolic rhythms. Additionally, the biosynthetic origins of the compounds were associated with their corresponding production patterns, possibly to maximize emission efficacy. Using a multidisciplinary chemical/ecological approach, we uncover and differentiate the main factors shaping floral scent diel fluctuations, highlighting their consequences under changing global climate.Obesity is associated with chronic inflammation in insulin-sensitive tissues, including liver and adipose tissue, and causes hormonal/metabolic complications, such as insulin resistance. There is growing evidence that peripheral cannabinoid-type 1 receptor (CB1R) is a crucial participant in obesity-induced pro-inflammatory responses in insulin-target tissues, and its selective targeting could be a novel therapeutic strategy to break the link between insulin resistance and metabolic inflammation. In this review, we introduce the role of peripheral CB1R in metabolic inflammation and as a mediator of hormonal/metabolic complications that underlie metabolic syndrome, including fatty liver, insulin resistance, and dyslipidemia. We also discuss the therapeutic potential of second- and third-generation peripherally restricted CB1R antagonists for treating obesity-induced metabolic inflammation without eliciting central CB1R-mediated neurobehavioral effects, predictive of neuropsychiatric side effects, in humans. We report the 5-year follow-up results from a single-arm, open-label, multicenter phase II study (ONO-4538-08) conducted in Japan. Twenty-four patients with treatment-naïve, recurrent, or unresectable stage III/IV malignant melanoma received 3 mg/kg nivolumab every 2 weeks until progressive disease or unacceptable toxicity occurred. The 5-year overall survival (OS) rate was 26.1%. Five years after the start of nivolumab treatment, there were six survivors. The 5-year OS rate was 66.7% for patients with a superficial spreading type, 14.3% for acral lentiginous type, and 16.7% for mucosal type. The 5-year progression-free survival rate was 17.2%. No new cases of partial response or complete response were observed after 3 years, and overall response and disease control rates were similar to those reported at 3 years. The treatment-related adverse events reported between the 3- and 5-year follow-up periods were anemia (grade 2), white blood cell count decrease (grade 2), and psoriasiform dermatitis (grade 2) in one patient each. No new grade 3 or higher treatment-related adverse events occurred in this period. In conclusion, first-line treatment with nivolumab in Japanese patients with unresectable or metastatic melanoma resulted in confirmed long-term survival. No new safety signals were reported in the studied population.
Placenta previa with placenta accreta spectrum (PAS) is a life-threatening disease that results in massive hemorrhage. The clinical and histologic criteria of PAS were adopted according to the International Federation of Gynaecology and Obstetrics (FIGO) classification. We aimed to investigate whether FIGO criteria and topography were associated with maternal complications in patients with placenta previa.
Patients with placenta previa who underwent cesarean section at our institution between January 2003 and December 2019 were identified. First, they were divided based on FIGO classification, as follows Group A, with clinical criteria; Group B, with histologic criteria; and Group C without clinical or histologic criteria. Next, cases with PAS were classified according to the topographic invasion area, as follows type 1, upper posterior bladder; type 2, lower posterior bladder; type 3, parametrium; type 4, posterior lower uterine segment. Predictive factors for massive hemorrhage were retrospectively anal FIGO classification, additional hemostatic procedures might be necessary according to the topographic invasion area.
Both clinical and histologic criteria for PAS in the FIGO classification were associated with massive hemorrhage. Diagnosing clinical PAS using the FIGO classification, additional hemostatic procedures might be necessary according to the topographic invasion area.
