Here, we summarize the most basic waveforms of electrical stimulation and the conductive materials used for the fabrication of electroactive substrates or scaffolds in neural tissue engineering. Various intensities and patterns of electrical current result in different biological effects, such as enhancing the proliferation, migration, and differentiation of stem cells into neural cells. Moreover, conductive materials can be used in delivering electrical stimulation to manipulate the migration and differentiation of stem cells and the outgrowth of neurites on two- and three-dimensional scaffolds. Finally, we also discuss the possible mechanisms in enhancing stem cell neural differentiation using electrical stimulation. We believe that stem cell-based therapies using biocompatible conductive scaffolds under electrical stimulation and biochemical induction are promising for neural regeneration.Effective analysis of breast thermography needs an accurate segmentation of the inflamed region in Infrared Breast Thermal Images (IBTI) which helps in the diagnosis of breast cancer. However, IBTI suffers from intensity inhomogeneity, overlapping regions of interest, poor contrast, and low signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) due to the imperfect image acquisition process. To mitigate this, this work proposes an enhanced segmentation of the inflamed Region of Interest (ROI) using an active contour method driven by the multiscale local and global fitted image (MLGFI) model. The first phase proposes a bilateral histogram difference-based thresholding (BHDT) method for locating the inflamed ROI. This is then used for automatic initialization of active contours driven by MLGFI to segment the inflamed ROI from IBTI effectively. To prove the effectiveness of this segmentation method, its performance is compared with ground truth image and its accuracy is also evaluated with the state-of-the-art methods (Fuzzy C Means (FCM), Chan-Vese (CV-ACM), and K-means). From the analysis, it is found that the proposed method not only increases the precision and the segmentation accuracy but also reduces the oversegmentation and undersegmentation rate significantly. In the second phase, area-based feature (AF) and average intensity-based feature (AIF) along with the GLCM (gray level cooccurrence matrix) based second-order statistical features are extracted from the inflamed ROI. Based on these features, a system is developed to effectively classify the benign and malignant breast conditions. From the results, it is observed that the proposed model exhibits an improved accuracy of 91.5%, sensitivity of 91%, and specificity of 92% compared to the whole breast thermogram. Hence, it is concluded that the proposed method will improve the efficacy of thermal imaging in the diagnosis of breast cancer.While some biomolecules have been explored to identify potential biomarkers for the prognosis of COVID-19 patients, there is no reliable prognostic indicator of the disease progression and severity. We aimed to evaluate the ability of the C-reactive protein (CRP) to predict COVID-19 infection outcome. The study population was divided into severe (n = 175) and nonsevere cases (n = 254). Data on demographic characteristics, clinical features, and laboratory findings on admission were collected. The proportion of patients with increased CRP levels was significantly higher in severe cases than in nonsevere patients. Analysis of the receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve found that CRP could be used as an independent factor in predicting the severity of COVID-19. Vitiligo is a chronic condition characterized by skin depigmentation. Although not life-threatening, it significantly impacts quality of life. The pathophysiology of vitiligo remains poorly understood, and treatment options are limited. Mounting evidence supports the importance of autoreactive T cells and, particularly interleukin-17A- (IL-17A-) secreting Th17 cells, in vitiligo. IL-17A targeting has been proven successful in various inflammatory dermatological conditions, including psoriasis and lupus erythematosus.

We evaluated the relationship between serum levels of IL-17A and the clinicopathological characteristics of Vietnamese vitiligo patients.

In this cross-sectional study, we analyzed data from 52 nonsegmental vitiligo patients and 50 age- and sex-matched healthy individuals. Serum levels of IL-17A were measured using an enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay. We evaluated the correlation between IL-17A levels and clinical characteristics including leukotrichia, disease duration, vitiligo activity, and body surface area involvement.

Patients with progressive vitiligo had significantly higher IL-17A levels than patients with stable vitiligo (
 = 0.014) or healthy individuals (
 = 0.002). In addition, serum IL-17A levels were higher in vitiligo patients with leukotrichia than in patients without it (
 = 0.04). Furthermore, serum IL-17A levels were negatively correlated with age (
 = -0.39,
 = 0.004) and age of onset (
 = -0.33,
 = 0.016) in vitiligo patients.

Higher serum levels of IL-17A in patients with progressive vitiligo and leukotrichia suggest a potential role of IL-17A in melanocyte destruction in the epidermis and the follicular matrix.
