Gaucher disease (GD) is one of the most prevalent lysosomal disorders, with an estimated incidence of 1 in 40,000 live births worldwide. Skeletal involvement is one of the main features of GD, causing morbidity and impacting long-term quality of life in patients with type 1 GD.

To characterize bone marrow infiltration in patients with type 1 GD followed at the Gaucher Disease Referral Center of Porto Alegre, Brazil, and to assess whether the Bone Marrow Burden score (BMB) correlates with clinical or laboratory parameters. We also evaluated whether the BMB score is a suitable parameter for long-term follow-up of patients with type 1 GD.

All included patients underwent magnetic resonance imaging for BMB score calculation at baseline, 1year, and every other year thereafter or as clinically indicated from 2012 to 2018.

The BMB score tended to decrease during the first 5years of treatment, at a rate of -1.08 points per year; after the 5-year mark, BMB tended to remain stable.

The BMB score is useful for response monitoring in the first five years of treatment. We recommend that, after 5years of treatment, MRI for BMB evaluation should only be performed in non-adherent patients or in those who develop symptoms of acute skeletal disease.

Previous research suggests that imitation as a social process depends on the similarity between interaction partners. However, some of the experiments supporting this notion could not be replicated and all of the supporting experiments manipulated not only similarity between actor and observer, but also other features. Thus, the existing evidence leaves open whether similarity as such moderates automatic imitation. To directly test the similarity account, in four experiments, we manipulated participants' focus on similarities or differences while holding the stimulus material constant. In Experiment 1, we presented participants with a hand and let them either focus on similarities, differences, or neutral aspects between their own hand and the other person's hand. The results indicate that focusing on similarities increased perceived similarity between the own and the other person's hand. In Experiments 2 to 4, we tested the hypothesis that focusing on similarities, as compared with differences, increases automatic imitation. Experiment 2 tested the basic effect and found support for our prediction. Experiment 3 and 4 replicated this finding with higher-powered samples. Exploratory investigations further suggest that it is a focus on differences that decreases automatic imitation, and not a focus on similarities that increases automatic imitation. The use of Monte Carlo simulations of NaI and BGO scintillation detectors in continuous underground radon measurements by gamma counting, to estimate the photon flux in the detector volume, is presented. The advantages of shielding side-view NaI detectors were demonstrated for a laboratory system containing ground phosphate rock, including avoiding high counting rates and reducing the effective source volume in radon transport studies. The gross gamma counting procedure was shown to result in a lower uncertainty than spectrometric measurement, by at least a factor of two, despite it being a simpler and more suitable procedure for field measurements. The calculation of simulated source volumes for a BGO detector in a borehole and the measurements in the field support the assumption that the gamma signal comes primarily from radon flowing in the bedrock's air-filled pores. The persulfidation of cysteine C131/C137 alters SnRK2.6 structure and brings the serine S175 residue closer to the aspartic acid D140 that acts as ATP-γ-phosphate proton acceptor, thereby improving the transfer efficiency of phosphate groups to S175 to enhance the phosphorylation level of S175. Interestingly, we predicted that S267 and C137 were predicted to lie in close proximity on the protein surface and found that the phosphorylation status of S267 positively regulates the persulfidation level at C137. Analyses of the responses of dephosphorylated and depersulfidated mutants to abscisic acid and the H2S-donor NaHS during stomatal closure, water loss, gas exchange, Ca2+ influx, and drought stress revealed that S175/S267-associated phosphorylation and C131/137-associated persulfidation are essential for SnRK2.6 function in vivo. Delirium is a well-known neuropsychiatric complication of patients with acute respiratory diseases, representing the most frequent clinical expression of acute brain dysfunction in critically ill patients, especially in those undergoing invasive mechanical ventilation. Among hospitalized patients with COVID-19, delirium incidence ranges from 11% to 80%, depending on the studied population and hospital setting.

We retrospectively studied consecutive hospitalized adult (≥18 y) patients with confirmed COVID-19 pneumonia from March 15 to July 15, 2020, in a tertiary-care hospital in Mexico City. Delirium was assessed by the attending physician or trained nurse, with either the Confusion Assessment Method for the intensive care unit or the Confusion Assessment Method brief version, according to the appropriate diagnostic tool for each hospital setting.
