It is of interest to evaluate the anti-inflammatory, anti-oxidant effect and cytotoxicity of Ocimum sanctum (an Indian herb, Thulsi) intra oral gel in combating periodontal diseases. Hence, 2% of O. sanctum gel was prepared with Carbopol940 soaked in purified water containing 0.2% w/v sodium benzoate overnight. Hydroxy proplyl methyl cellulose (HPMC) solution was mixed with propylene glycol using using tissue homogenizer. Anti-oxidant effect was analyzed using DPPH radical assay and anti-inflammatory effect was assessed using the inhibition of albumin denaturation assay. Ocimum sanctum gel with various dilutions from10 micro litres to 50 micro litres showed exponential increase in percentage of inhibition from 60.9 to 72.2 exhibiting antioxidant activity. The anti-inflammatory effect of Ocimum sanctum gel showed comparatively equivalent effect with standard diclofenac gel with values ranging from 76.6 for 50 micro liters of Ocimum sanctum gel and 89.6 for standard gel at 50 micro liters. Ocimum sanctum showed less toxicity towards brine shrimp nauplii. Thus we show that Ocimum sanctum gel showed potent anti-oxidant and anti-inflammatory effect and less toxic to brine shrimp nauplii as a promising agent for the treatment of periodontal diseases.Oral mucoceles are the most common benign minor salivary gland lesions. It is of interest to document the prevalence of oral mucocele among outpatients at the Saveetha Dental Hospital, India. We used patient data (12 case records) with mucocele occurrence for this analysis. Data included age, gender, diagnosis, lesion duration and relevant dental history. Data shows that oral mucocele were seen predominantly in males (66%) when compared to females (34%). The most affected site in the oral cavity was the lower lip (58%). Thus, data shows that oral mucocele was predominantly seen in males compared to females. Data also shows that the lower lip is often affected.Oral Submucous Fibrosis (OSMF) is characterized by Juxta-epithelial inflammation with oedema, fibroblasts, neutrophil and eosinophil inflammatory infiltrate. Therefore, it is of interest to gain insights from an awareness survey on ORAL SUBMUCOUS FIBROSIS (OSMF). The sample size was 100 patients who had participated in this survey in Tamilnadu, India where 93% of the subjects used tobacco products. 81% of the patients were not aware of the malignancy caused by OSMF. A significant number of males use more tobacco than females (p value = 0.006 ( less then 0.05) in the sample dataset. Thus, there is a need to create awareness on OSMF among the general population to combat the associated diseases.Recurrent Aphthous ulcers are the most common oral lesions among dental patients. The ulcers, which usually occur on the nonkeratinized oral mucosa, can cause considerable pain and may interfere with eating, speaking, and swallowing. Therefore, it is of interest to report data on the management of recurrent aphthous ulcer using corticosteroids, local anesthetics and nutritional supplements. Case sheets of 76 patients who underwent treatment for recurrent aphthous ulcer between June 2019 and March 2020 at the Saveetha Dental College, India were used in this analysis. Data was analyzed using Chi square test at a P value less then 0.05 that is statistically significant. Results show that topical anaesthetics in population (49%) were more effective that corticosteroids. Thus, topical anaesthetics are recommended for recurrent aphthous ulcer. It is of interest to document the known relationship between periodontal status and Angle's malocclusion types. We used 26092 case records of patients between 16 to 50 years of age with no gender restrictions. Variables such as age, gender, periodontal diagnosis and type of Angle's occlusion were extracted and tabulated. Statistical analysis was completed using chi square test in the SPSS software version 20. Data shows that the majority (95.27%) had Angle's class I occlusion and less than 5% had class II and Class III occlusion. Statistical analysis of class II and Class III cases with 1000 randomly selected cases of class I occlusion show a significant difference in the periodontal status between different types of Angle's occlusion. Chronic periodontitis was more in class I (10.4%) and it was the lowest in Class II Div 2 (4.3%) occlusion. Class II Div 1(23.8%) and Class III (17%) had the highest and lowest proportion of clinically healthy periodontium, respectively. Thus, we report that angles occlusion types had significant influence on periodontal status along with the other determinants. It is of interest to document data on oral health care services for adults with cognitive and intellectual disabilities. Hence, a study protocol was registered at the International Prospective Register of Systematic Reviews (PROSPERO) with registration number CRD42020150759. We used PubMed, Science Direct, LILACS and SCIELO to collect data from known literature using keywords containing MESH (Medical Subject Headings) terms. The risk of bias rating for the collected data was calculated using the Newcastle-Ottawa assessment Scale. The AHRQ (Agency for Healthcare, Research and Quality) was used for classifying the level of evidence in the collected data. Analysis of available data shows that there is a lack of dentists with adequate skills to treat people with disabilities resulting in high cost for dental treatment. Thus, we conclude that inconvenient location of dental clinic, lack of dentists willing to treat people with disabilities and attitude of dental staff towards people with learning disabilities were considered as barriers and challenges faced for dental health service utilization in this context.
Previous studies comparing total and reverse shoulder arthroplasty (TSA/RSA) are subject to surgeon selection bias. This study objective is to compare the outcomes and cost of outpatient TSA/RSA to inpatient TSA/RSA.

108,889 elective inpatient and outpatient TSA/RSA from Medicare claims data (2016-2018). 90-day readmission and total 90-day costs were compared following propensity score matching.

Younger and healthier patients are receiving outpatient TSA/RSA. Outpatient TSA/RSA was associated with fewer 90-day readmissions (OR 0.48 CI 0.38-0.59, p<0.001) and lower 90-day costs (-20.1% CI -19.1%; -21.1%, p<0.001).

Outpatient TSA/RSA surgery offers lower complication rates and total costs.

III.Chest imaging can represent a powerful tool for detecting the Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). Among the available technologies, the chest Computed Tomography (CT) scan is an effective approach for reliable and early detection of the disease. However, it could be difficult to rapidly identify by human inspection anomalous area in CT images belonging to the COVID-19 disease. Hence, it becomes necessary the exploitation of suitable automatic algorithms able to quick and precisely identify the disease, possibly by using few labeled input data, because large amounts of CT scans are not usually available for the COVID-19 disease. The method proposed in this paper is based on the exploitation of the compact and meaningful hidden representation provided by a Deep Denoising Convolutional Autoencoder (DDCAE). Specifically, the proposed DDCAE, trained on some target CT scans in an unsupervised way, is used to build up a robust statistical representation generating a target histogram. A suitable statistical distance measures how this target histogram is far from a companion histogram evaluated on an unknown test scan if this distance is greater of a threshold, the test image is labeled as anomaly, i.e. the scan belongs to a patient affected by COVID-19 disease. Some experimental results and comparisons with other state-of-the-art methods show the effectiveness of the proposed approach reaching a top accuracy of 100% and similar high values for other metrics. In conclusion, by using a statistical representation of the hidden features provided by DDCAEs, the developed architecture is able to differentiate COVID-19 from normal and pneumonia scans with high reliability and at low computational cost. This paper revisits spectral graph convolutional neural networks (graph-CNNs) given in Defferrard (2016) and develops the Laplace-Beltrami CNN (LB-CNN) by replacing the graph Laplacian with the LB operator. We define spectral filters via the LB operator on a graph and explore the feasibility of Chebyshev, Laguerre, and Hermite polynomials to approximate LB-based spectral filters. We then update the LB operator for pooling in the LB-CNN. selleck kinase inhibitor We employ the brain image data from Alzheimer's Disease Neuroimaging Initiative (ADNI) and Open Access Series of Imaging Studies (OASIS) to demonstrate the use of the proposed LB-CNN. Based on the cortical thickness of two datasets, we showed that the LB-CNN slightly improves classification accuracy compared to the spectral graph-CNN. The three polynomials had a similar computational cost and showed comparable classification accuracy in the LB-CNN or spectral graph-CNN. The LB-CNN trained via the ADNI dataset can achieve reasonable classification accuracy for the OASIS dataset. Our findings suggest that even though the shapes of the three polynomials are different, deep learning architecture allows us to learn spectral filters such that the classification performance is not dependent on the type of the polynomials or the operators (graph Laplacian and LB operator).Insect pollination increases the yield and quality of many crops and therefore, understanding the role of insect pollinators in crop production is necessary to sustainably increase yields. Avocado Persea americana benefits from insect pollination, however, a better understanding of the role of pollinators and their contribution to the production of this globally important crop is needed. In this study, we carried out a systematic literature review and meta-analysis of studies investigating the pollination ecology of avocado to answer the following questions (a) Are there any research gaps in terms of geographic location or scientific focus? (b) What is the effect of insect pollinators on avocado pollination and production? (c) Which pollinators are the most abundant and effective and how does this vary across location? (d) How can insect pollination be improved for higher yields? (e) What are the current evidence gaps and what should be the focus of future research? Research from many regions of the globe has been published, however, results showed that there is limited information from key avocado producing countries such as Mexico and the Dominican Republic. In most studies, insects were shown to contribute greatly to pollination, fruit set and yield. Honeybees Apis mellifera were important pollinators in many regions due to their efficiency and high abundance, however, many wild pollinators also visited avocado flowers and were the most frequent visitors in over 50% of studies. This study also highlighted the effectiveness of stingless bees (Meliponini) and blow flies (Calliphoridae) as avocado pollinators although, for the majority of flower visitors, there is a lack of data on pollinator efficiency. For optimal yields, growers should ensure a sufficient abundance of pollinators in their orchards either through increasing honeybee hive density or, for a more sustainable approach, by managing wild pollinators through practices that protect or promote natural habitat.
