Physical activity is important to prevent and manage multiple chronic medical conditions. The objective of this study was to describe the implementation of a physical activity vital sign (PAVS) in a primary care setting and examine the association between physical activity with demographic characteristics and chronic disease burden.

We extracted data from the electronic medical records of patients who had visits from July 2018 through January 2020 in a primary care clinic in which PAVS was implemented as part of the intake process. Data collected included self-reported physical activity, age, sex, body mass index, race, ethnicity, and a modified Charlson Comorbidity Index score indicating chronic disease burden. We classified PAVS into 3 categories of time spent in moderate to strenuous intensity physical activity consistently inactive (0 min/wk), inconsistently active (<150 min/wk), and consistently active (≥150 min/wk). We used χ
tests of independence to test for association between PAVS categoriesm physical activity counseling.Health impairments characteristic for metabolic syndrome such as increased body mass, a dysregulated lipid or glucose profile and elevated blood pressure can be reversed by appropriate lifestyle modifications. Supplementing the normal diet with herbal infusions is a promising strategy. We conducted a randomised double-blind comparative study in which participants with at least two traits of metabolic syndrome consumed an infusion of either Helichrysum italicum subsp. italicum (HI, n = 14) or Helichrysum arenarium (HA, n = 13) daily for 28 days. Anthropometric and biochemical parameters were measured at baseline, at the end of the intervention and after a 2-week washout period. HI infusion consumption had a beneficial effect on anthropometric traits; significant reductions in body weight, body mass index, and visceral and total body fat were observed. In the HA group, there was a greater reduction in serum glucose levels and an improvement in the lipid profile. In both groups, high LDL levels were measured at baseline, but two weeks after the intervention, in 84% of participants in the HA group and 71% in the HI group, the levels were within the reference range. Both interventions caused a decrease in HDL but also improved serum antioxidant properties. Consuming either infusion could thus be recommended as a simple, profitable habit for individuals with traits of metabolic syndrome.Enterococci have recently emerged as nosocomial pathogens worldwide. Their ubiquitous nature determines their frequent finding in foods as contaminants. In this study, we aimed to determine the counts, species diversity, antimicrobial resistance profile, and to screen for a set of virulence genes among enterococci. Enterococcus were identified from 75.7% (125/165) of chilled chicken carcasses, belonging to seven companies, sampled from retail markets in Abu Dhabi Emirate, United Arab Emirates (U.A.E.). Overall, the samples, with a mean Enterococcus count of 2.58 log10 colony-forming unit (CFU)/g with a standard deviation of ±1.17 log10 CFU/g. Among the characterized Enterococcus isolates (n = 90), Enterococcus faecalis was the predominant species (51.1%), followed by Enterococcus faecium (37.8%). Using Vitek2 automated antimicrobial sensitivity panel, we found none of the E. faecalis nor E. faecium to be resistant to ampicillin, teicoplanin, vancomycin, or tigecycline. A third of the E. faecalis (28.3%) and Edy adds to the regional and global understanding of antimicrobial resistance spread in foods of animal origin.Heavy metals are known to be carcinogenic, mutagenic, and teratogenic. Some heavy metals are necessary while present in the growing medium in moderate concentrations known to be essential heavy metals as they required for the body functioning as a nutrient. But there are some unwanted metals and are also toxic to the environment and create a harmful impact on the body, which termed to be non-essential heavy metals. Upon exposure, the heavy metals decrease the major antioxidants of cells and enzymes with the thiol group and affect cell division, proliferation, and apoptosis. It interacts with the DNA repair mechanism and initiates the production of reactive oxygen species (ROS). It subsequently binds to the mitochondria and may inhibit respiratory and oxidative phosphorylation in even low concentrations. This mechanism leads to damage antioxidant repair mechanism of neuronal cells and turns into neurotoxicity. Now, phytochemicals have led to good practices in the health system. Phytochemicals that are present in the fruits and herbs can preserve upon free radical damage. Thus, this review paper summarized various phytochemicals which can be utilized as a treatment option to reverse the effect of the toxicity caused by the ingestion of heavy metals in our body through various environmental or lifestyles ways.
To explore the potential association of lateral placentation with pregnancy outcome.

The database of a tertiary medical center was searched for women who gave birth to a singleton neonate from 2012 to 2020 for whom placental location was documented during antepartum sonographic examination. Clinical data were compared between patients with a central (anterior/posterior/fundal) or lateral placenta using standard statistics. The primary outcome measure was neonatal birthweight, and secondary outcome measures were pregnancy complications and mode of delivery.

The cohort included 12 306 women 11 608 (94%) with a central placenta and 698 (5.6%) with a lateral placenta. The lateral placenta group had higher rates (P <0.05) of prior and current cesarean delivery, assisted delivery, and preterm birth. On multivariate regression analyses, placental location (adjusted odds ratio [aOR], 1.36; 95% confidence interval [CI], 1.11-1.66) and maternal age (aOR, 1.02; 95% CI, 1.01-1.03) were associated with risk of preterm birth. LTGO-33 research buy Lateral placenta (aOR, 1.22; 95% CI, 1.02-1.47), maternal age (aOR, 1.07; 95% CI, 1.06-1.08), parity (aOR, 0.32; 95% CI, 0.28-0.35), and prior cesarean delivery (aOR, 12.00; 95% CI, 10.60-13.60) were associated with risk of current cesarean delivery.

The findings suggest that lateral placentation may pose a risk of preterm birth and cesarean delivery compared with central placentation.
The findings suggest that lateral placentation may pose a risk of preterm birth and cesarean delivery compared with central placentation.Several tools have been developed for calling variants from next-generation sequencing (NGS) data. Although they are generally accurate and reliable, most of them have room for improvement, especially regarding calling variants in datasets with low read depth. In addition, the somatic variants predicted by several somatic variant callers tend to have very low concordance rates. In this study, we developed a new method (RDscan) for improving germline and somatic variant calling in NGS data. RDscan removes misaligned reads, repositions reads, and calculates RDscore based on the read depth distribution. With RDscore, RDscan improves the precision of variant callers by removing false-positive variant calls. When we tested our new tool using the latest variant calling algorithms and data from the 1000 Genomes Project and Illumina's public datasets, accuracy was improved for most of the algorithms. After screening variants with RDscan, calling accuracies increased for germline variants in 11 of 12 cases and for somatic variants in 21 of 24 cases. RDscan is simple to use and can effectively remove false-positive variants while maintaining a low computation load. Therefore, RDscan, along with existing variant callers, should contribute to improvements in genome analysis.Recent discoveries of light-driven inward proton-pumping rhodopsins have opened new avenues to exploring the mechanism of unidirectional transport because these proteins transport protons in the opposite direction to conventional proton-pumping rhodopsins, despite their similar protein structure and membrane topology. Schizorhodopsin (SzR) is a newly discovered rhodopsin family of light-driven inward proton pumps. Here, we report time-resolved resonance Raman spectra showing that cis-trans thermal reisomerization precedes reprotonation at the Schiff base of the retinal chromophore in the photocycle of SzR AM_5_00977. This sequence has not been observed for the photocycles of conventional proton-pumping rhodopsins, in which reisomerization follows reprotonation, and thus provides insights into the mechanism of proton uptake to the chromophore during inward proton pumping. The present findings are expected to contribute to controlling the direction of proton transport in engineered proteins.Long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) are reportedly involved in the regulation of physiological and pathophysiological processes. However, the potential role of lncRNAs in stroke remains largely undefined. Here, RNA-Seq analysis of lncRNAs found that the lncRNA PEG11as (PEG11as) levels were significantly increased in ischemic brain tissue in a transient middle cerebral artery occlusion/reperfusion (tMCAO/R) mouse model of stroke. To explore the role of PEG11as in stroke, the lentivirus containing PEG11as silencing construct(siRNA-PEG11as) was microinjected intracerebroventricularly into male or transfected to N2a cells and then exposed to tMCAO/R or oxygen-glucose deprivation/reoxygenation (OGD/R). Knockdown of PEG11as expression significantly reduced infarct volume, alleviated neuronal deficits and inhibited neuronal apoptosis in tMCAO/R mice. Mechanistically, as an endogenous microRNA-874-3p (miR-874-3p) sponge, PEG11as silencing inhibited miR-874-3p activity, resulting in downregulation of ATG16L1 expression and subsequent inhibition of neuronal apoptosis by regulating autophagy. Overall, the results of this current study indicate that PEG11as is involved in the pathophysiology of cerebral ischemia, thus providing translational evidence that PEG11as can be envisioned as a novel biomarker or/and therapeutic target for stroke.Reported here is a multi-response anisotropic poly(N-isopropylacrylamide) hydrogel developed by using a rotating magnetic field to align magnetic double stacks (MDSs) that are fixed by polymerization. The magneto-orientation of MDSs originates from the unique structure with γ-Fe2 O3 nanoparticles sandwiched by two silicate nanosheets. The resultant gels not only exhibit anisotropic optical and mechanical properties but also show anisotropic responses to temperature and light. Gels with complex ordered structures of MDSs are further devised by multi-step magnetic orientation and photolithographic polymerization. These gels show varied birefringence patterns with potentials as information materials, and can deform into specific configurations upon stimulations. Multi-gait motions are further realized in the patterned gel through dynamic deformation under spatiotemporal light and friction regulation by imposed magnetic force. The magneto-orientation assisted fabrication of hydrogels with anisotropic structures and additional functions should bring opportunities for gel materials in biomedical devices, soft actuators/robots, etc.
