Meta-analytic studies show that the benefits of the growth mindset on academic achievement are heterogenous. Past studies have explored how individual characteristics and proximal environmental factors could explain these variations, but the role of the broader sociocultural environment has seldom been explored.
We investigated society-level social axioms to explain variations in growth mindset effects on achievement across cultures. We hypothesized that three society-level social axioms (social complexity, fate control, and reward for application) imply social norms that would either support or obstruct the growth mindset effect.
We conducted multilevel SEM with random slopes using data from 273,074 students nested within 39 countries/territories.
We found weaker growth mindset effects in societies with stronger social complexity beliefs; societies believing that there are multiple solutions to problems have social norms that obstruct the growth mindset effects on achievement. No moderating effects were found with other social axioms.
Relevant cultural-level normative beliefs should be considered to better assess the relevance of the growth mindset construct.

This study investigates the effects of a study course in oral health care on the perceptions of nursing students. The course was designed and evaluated by a multi-professional team at a Japanese nursing school.
The subjects were 119 nursing students. They participated in the oral health course that comprised 45h of training in 4 years. These were designed and taught by oral health professionals, a certified speech-hearing therapist, and nurses. Questionnaires were distributed to subjects to compare their perceptions and awareness about oral health care before, in between, and after the courses. A chi-square test was used to compare the data.
After completing the courses, more than 95% of the participants were interested in the oral health care practice and expected to collaborate with oral health professionals after getting qualified. link2 Additionally, they understood the effectiveness of oral health care for the prevention of aspiration pneumonia and perceived that oral health care should be provided to hospitalized patients and community-dwelling older adults. Their awareness of the need to learn techniques for tooth brushing support, salivary gland massage, oral management, swallowing training, removing tongue coating, and gargling, both in theory and practice, was significantly improved.
Multi-professional education has the potential to improve the awareness of nursing students of oral health care and promote collaborative oral health care in the future.

Bacterial diseases previously controllable by antibiotics are resurging and treatment options are dwindling. Cholera is one such disease. Human pathogenic strains of Vibrio cholerae cause as many as 4 million cases of disease resulting in over 100,000 deaths each year (Ali et al. 2015) and multidrug-resistant V. cholerae is now established where pandemic cholera persists. Vibrio cholerae is fundamentally an aquatic species thriving in brackish and estuarial waters. Its environmental prevalence, together with both extracellular and intracellular infection of alternative arthropod and mollusc hosts, produces a highly complex ecological milieu that is not well understood. With the absence of reliable antibiotic-based treatment options, it is necessary to build a better understanding of V. cholerae biology and ecology in order to develop alternative methods for risk modelling and disease control. Abiotic stressors adversely affect plant growth and development; and thereby makes a direct impact on overall plant productivity. However, routine exposure to unpredictable environmental stressors makes it essential to equip plants with a system that contributes to sustainable agricultural productivity, besides imparting multi-stress tolerance. The sustainable approach against abiotic stress is accomplished through breeding of tolerant cultivars. Though eco-friendly, tedious screening and crossing protocol limits its usage to overcome stress and in attaining the goal of global food security. Advancement on the technological front has enabled adoption of genomic engineering approaches to perform site-specific modification in the plant genome for improving adaptability, increasing the yield and in attributing resilience against different stressors. Of the different genome editing approaches, CRISPR/Cas has revolutionized biological research with wider applicability to crop plants. link3 CRISPR/Cas emerged as a versatile tool in editing genomes for desired traits in highly accurate and precise manner. The present study summarizes advancement of the CRISPR/Cas genome editing tool in its adoption to manipulate plant genomes for novel traits towards developing high-yielding and climate-resilient crop varieties.
This study aimed to determine the optimal reference area for superimposition of serial 3D dental models of patients with advanced periodontitis.
Ten pre- and post-periodontal treatment 3D models (median time lapse 13.1months) of patients with advanced periodontitis were acquired by intraoral scanning. Superimposition was performed with the iterative closest point algorithm using four reference areas (A) all stable teeth, (B) all teeth, (C) third palatal rugae and (D) the whole model. link3 The superimposition accuracy was evaluated at two stable evaluation regions using the mean absolute distance and evaluated with two-way ANOVA and post-hoc multivariate model. The intra- and inter-operator reproducibility was calculated by intraclass correlation coefficient (ICC).
Superimposition accuracy evaluated at stable tooth evaluation region were 71±29μm, 73±21μm, 127±52μm and 113±53μm for areas A, B, C and D, respectively. link3 All reference areas showed similarly high ICC values >0.990, except for reference area C showing ICC of 0.821 (intra-operator) and 0.767 (inter-operator) for tooth evaluation area.
