The results show that the production of bio-based semi-finished products can be a potential way for upcycling textile waste.Block copolymers with crystallizable blocks are a highly interesting class of materials owing to their unique self-assembly behaviour both in bulk and solution. This Special Issue brings together new developments in the synthesis and self-assembly of semicrystalline block copolymers and also addresses potential applications of these exciting materials.
Our earlier works showed the quick vascularization of mouse skin grafted
3D silk fibroin nonwoven scaffolds (3D-SFnws) and the release of exosomes enriched in angiogenic/growth factors (AGFs) from in vitro 3D-SFnws-stuck human dermal fibroblasts (HDFs). Here, we explored whether coronary artery adult human smooth muscle cells (AHSMCs) also release AGFs-enriched exosomes when cultured on 3D-SFnws in vitro.
Media with exosome-depleted FBS served for AHSMCs and human endothelial cells (HECs) cultures on 3D-SFnws or polystyrene. Biochemical methods and double-antibody arrays assessed cell growth, metabolism, and intracellular TGF-β and NF-κB signalling pathways activation. AGFs conveyed by CD9
/CD81
exosomes released from AHSMCs were double-antibody array analysed and their angiogenic power evaluated on HECs in vitro.
AHSMCs grew and consumed
-glucose more intensely and showed a stronger phosphorylation/activation of TAK-1, SMAD-1/-2/-4/-5, ATF-2, c-JUN, ATM, CREB, and an IκBα phosphorylation/inactivation on SFnws vs. polystyrene, consistent overall with a proliferative/secretory phenotype. SFnws-stuck AHSMCs also released exosomes richer in IL-1α/-2/-4/-6/-8; bFGF; GM-CSF; and GRO-α/-β/-γ, which strongly stimulated HECs' growth, migration, and tubes/nodes assembly in vitro.
Altogether, the intensified AGFs exosomal release from 3D-SFnws-attached AHSMCs and HDFs could advance grafts' colonization, vascularization, and take in vivo-noteworthy assets for prospective clinical applications.

The resulting Ozawa-Avrami model yields the Avrami index (n) and heating/cooling function (χ(T)). There has been a number of recent applications of the Ozawa-Avrami model to non-isothermal crosslinking polymerization (curing) kinetics that have determined n and have used χ(T) in place of the rate constant (k(T)) in the Arrhenius equation to evaluate the activation energy (E) and the preexponential factor (A). We analyze this approach mathematically as well as by using simulated and experimental data, highlighting the following problems. First, the approach is limited to the processes that obey the Avrami model. In cases of autocatalytic or decelerating kinetics, commonly encountered in crosslinking polymerizations, n reveals a systematic dependence on temperature. Second, χ(T) has a more complex temperature dependence than k(T) and thus cannot produce exact values of E and A via the Arrhenius equation. The respective deviations can reach tens or even hundreds of percent but are diminished dramatically using the heating/cooling function in the form [χ(T)]1/n. selleck chemical Third, without this transformation, the Arrhenius plots may demonstrate breakpoints that leads to questionable interpretations. Overall, the application of the Ozawa-Avrami model to crosslinking polymerizations appears too problematic to be justified, especially considering the existence of well-known alternative kinetic techniques that are flexible, accurate, and computationally simple.Semiflexible nunchucks are block copolymers, which consist of two long blocks of high bending stiffness jointed together by a short block of low bending stiffness. Semiflexible nunchucks that consist of two DNA nanorods jointed by a short segment of double-stranded (ds) DNA and confined in two dimensions have been used in recent experiments by Fygenson and coworkers as a tool to magnify the bending fluctuations of the linking dsDNA, which in turn are used to deduce the persistence length of dsDNA. In a recent theoretical analysis, we showed that in a semiflexible nunchuck with one end grafted, the fluctuations of the position of the free end that is transverse to the grafting direction exhibit a pronounced bimodality, provided that the bending stiffness of the hinge is not very large. In this article, we theoretically analyse a grafted semiflexible nunchuck with a magnetic bead attached to its free end. We show that a transverse magnetic field induces an asymmetry in the bimodal distribution of the transverse fluctuations of the free end. This asymmetry is very sensitive to interactions with a magnetic field and, in principle, could be used in magnetometry (the measurement of a magnetic field or the magnetic moment of the bead). We also investigate how the response of the bimodal distribution of the transverse fluctuations of the free end to a magnetic field depends on the bending stiffness of the nunchuck hinge. In addition, we analyse the closely related systems of a single filament and two filaments jointed at a kink point with one end grafted and the other end attached to a magnetic bead.In this paper, we developed an organic solvent-free, eco-friendly, simple and efficient one-pot approach for the preparation of amphiphilic conjugates (Ugi-OSAOcT) by grafting octylamine (OCA) to oxidized sodium alginate (OSA). The optimum reaction parameters that were obtained based on the degree of substitution (DS) of Ugi-OSAOcT were a reaction time of 12 h, a reaction temperature of 25 °C and a molar ratio of 12.433.3 (OSAOCAHAcTOSMIC), respectively. The chemical structure and composition were characterized by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), 1H nuclear magnetic resonance (1H NMR), X-ray diffraction (XRD), thermogravimetry analyser (TGA), gel permeation chromatography (GPC) and elemental analysis (EA). It was found that the Ugi-OSAOcT conjugates with a CMC value in the range of 0.30-0.085 mg/mL could self-assemble into stable and spherical micelles with a particle size of 135.7 ± 2.4-196.5 ± 3.8 nm and negative surface potentials of -32.8 ± 0.4--38.2 ± 0.8 mV. Furthermore, ibuprofen (IBU), .The influences of reinforcement by tufting on the interlaminar shear performance of laminated preforms and composites are studied in the present paper. A modified T steel shearing test was established and used to achieve a pure Mode II loading (sliding). Dry tufted preform (DTP) and cured tufted composites (CTC) with varied tufting spacing are considered for the understanding of the role of infused resin and the tufting density on the mechanical properties. Meanwhile, knowledge about the role of infused resins is gained. Additionally, cured tufted composites without threads (CT'C) were prepared under the identical tufting density to evaluate the effect of tufting threads. The results show that the denser the tufting density, the stronger the interlaminar shear strength of CTC, its improvement reaches 12% compared to the non tufted composites. However, the decreased effect also exists for the tufting spacing of 9 mm. Therefore, the tufting density needs to be optimized during the tufting process to improve the interlaminar shear properties of tufted reinforcement and composites. On the contrary, tufting without thread does not affect its mechanical properties compared to the non tufted composites. This study aims to provide an overview of the latest research studies on the use of biopolymers in various textile processes, from spinning processes to dyeing and finishing treatment, proposed as a possible solution to reduce the environmental impact of the textile industry. Recently, awareness of various polluting aspects of textile production, based on petroleum derivatives, has grown significantly. Environmental issues resulting from greenhouse gas emissions, and waste accumulation in nature and landfills, have pushed research activities toward more sustainable, low-impact alternatives. Polymers derived from renewable resources and/or with biodegradable characteristics were investigated as follows (i) as constituent materials in yarn production, in view of their superior ability to be decomposed compared with common synthetic petroleum-derived plastics, positive antibacterial activities, good breathability, and mechanical properties; (ii) in textile finishing to act as biological catalysts; (iii) to impart specific functional properties to treated textiles; (iv) in 3D printing technologies on fabric surfaces to replace traditionally more pollutive dye-based and inkjet printing; and (v) in the implants for the treatment of dye-contaminated water. Finally, current projects led by well-known companies on the development of new materials for the textile market are presented.Ethylene glycol (EG) is widely used in various economic and industrial fields. The demand for its efficient separation and recovery from water is constantly growing. To improve the pervaporation characteristics of a poly(2,6-dimethyl-1,4-phenylene oxide) (PPO) membrane in dehydration of ethylene glycol, the modification with graphene oxide (GO) nanoparticles was used. The effects of the introduction of various GO quantities into the PPO matrix on the structure and physicochemical properties were studied by Fourier-transform infrared (FTIR) and nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopies, scanning electron (SEM) and atomic force (AFM) microscopies, thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), swelling experiments, and contact angle measurements. Two types of membranes based on PPO and PPO/GO composite were developed dense membranes and supported membranes on a fluoroplast substrate (MFFC). Transport properties of the developed membranes were evaluated in the pervaporation dehydration of EG in a wide concentration range (10-90 wt.% and 10-30 wt.% water for the dense and supported membranes, respectively). The supported PPO/GO(0.7%)/MFFC membrane demonstrated the best transport properties in pervaporation dehydration of EG (10-30 wt.% water) at 22 °C permeation flux ca. 15 times higher compared to dense PPO membrane-180-230 g/(m2·h)), 99.8-99.6 wt.% water in the permeate. The membrane is suitable for the promising industrial application. The paper deals with new approaches to chitosan (CS)-based antifungal therapeutic formulations designed to fulfill the requirements of specific applications. Gel-like formulations were prepared by mixing CS dissolved in aqueous lactic acid (LA) solution with nystatin (NYS) powder and/or propolis (PRO) aqueous solution dispersed in glycerin, followed by water evaporation to yield flexible mesoporous (pore widths of 2-4 nm) films of high specific surfaces between 1 × 103 and 1.7 × 103 m2/g. Morphological evaluation of the antifungal films showed uniform dispersion and downsizing of NYS crystallites (with initial sizes up to 50 μm). Their mechanical properties were found to be close to those of soft tissues (Young's modulus values between 0.044-0.025 MPa). The films presented hydration capacities in physiological condition depending on their composition, i.e., higher for NYS-charged (628%), as compared with PRO loaded films (118-129%). All NYS charged films presented a quick release for the first 10 min followed by a progressive increase of the release efficiency at 48.
