Three Of The Biggest Catastrophes In Audi G28 The Audi G28's 3 Biggest Disasters In History
How to Replace an Audi G28 Engine Speed Sensor

In this video, Charles the Humble Mechanic demonstrates how to replace the G28 engine speed sensor. This sensor is situated at the edge of transmission over the flywheel gear. It transmits a signal to the ECU through a grey wire T55/49, then to the tachometer located on the instrument cluster.

1. Engine Speed Sensor

It is located on the outside of the transmission just above the flywheel ring gear G28 Engine Speed Sensor sends a signal to ECU pin T55/49 using the grey wire. The ECU then uses this information to control fuel, timig and boost. It also sends an alert to the G5 Tachometer within the instrument cluster.

The sensor is used to connect with the G40 Camshaft position Sensor. The ecu needs to know when the crankshaft reached TDC, and the position of the camshaft, so that it can activate the spark and injectors.

If this sensor fails to function, the ECU will display a P00160 error message. This means that the Crank Shaft is not in alignment with the Intake Camshaft. It could also indicate a chain stretch or a jump in the chain link of the upper chain. However the code will not be displayed on its own without additional information from other sensors (G4 and G40).

It can be a bit difficult to test since there are various pins on the connector, and each one has different functions. The best way to do it is to measure the resistance between the ECU and the sensor. It should read about 1000 ohms when the sensor is at full operation. If you are having problems with this sensor, look for signs of oil or coolant in the connector bay.

2. replacement audi key , when i was accelerating to the fullest speed from highway paytoll, i experienced an abrupt drop in power like the engine is out of gas or the injectors aren't firing at all. I pulled out the spark plugs this morning, three were drenched in gasoline and the fourth was unclean. I placed a tissue over each hole in the injector and when i turn the engine on without sparks, the 3 that have gazoline pop right out. The 4th one stays shut. I tested the ground connection on ECU pins 14/55, 30/55 and 48/55. i get zero Ohm. I'm assuming that the issue is somewhere else.

I also tried to reset the PID without success. The car will start when the G28 is unplugged, and it is running fine with the G28 plugged in. However the intermittent misfire issue continues to occur at higher RPM. The temperature sensor for the coolant (G62) shows the wrong temperature value of -49c, even if I unplug it. I also noticed that the oil gauge in the cockpit shows 2 bar but the actual pressure is zero.

I'm not sure what to do, i feel i have pretty much ruled out everything else. replacement key for audi a3 'm afraid i may have missed something. Let me know If you have any suggestions! TIA!

3. Fuel Pump

The fuel pump in the g28 receives a signal from the RPM sensor. The GM-style transmitter is identical to the G4 sender and both work on the 80,100,200, UrS, and RS2 vehicles. You can easily locate the spare in a salvage shop or parts store. Testing them is easy - put your DMM in resistance mode and measure between pins 1 (with the bump on the connector's side up) and 2 (2nd from the left on the black connector's end). They must be infinite Ohms.

4. ECU

The ECU in our 20vt turbo (3B AAN ABY) engines requires to be aware of the position and speed of the crankshaft to make decisions regarding fuel injector timing, etc. It utilizes a Crank Position Sensor G4 and an Engine Speed Sensor G28 to achieve this. If you have a problem with either one of these, the diagnostic scanner will display codes that could lead to an engine shutdown.

Some of the signs of a failed G28 sensor include an inaccurate rev counter in the gearbox, gears shifting quicker than normal, and/or a misfire when you are in gear. It is likely that your sensor is failing and requires to be replaced if you experience any of these symptoms. They're cheap and easy to find particularly if they're an Bosch sensor like ours. You can also choose the GM version of this part is also a good choice.

5. Tachometer

A damaged engine sensor could cause a number of problems within your vehicle. It is a crucial part of the Audi's transmission because it communicates to the ECU about how the car's crankshaft is turning. If this sensor fails, it will disrupt the performance of the transmission and the other car's components.

The G5 engine sensor is located at the edge of the transmission, over the flywheel ring. It transmits signals via an uncolored wire to the ECU pin T55/49. The ECU uses this signal to control the amount of fuel and boost, and also timig. It also sends it to the G5 Tachometer inside the instrument cluster. You can check the sensor for failure by checking continuity between it and the tachometer, between ECU pin T55/49 and the instrument cluster connection via pin T6a/1 (trace [79]) and between T6a/1 and the instrument cluster pin T26a/12. You should see a resistance of approximately 1000 ohms between these points. This is the same across the Audi 80-100-200-RS2 range, beginning with the 1985 MC and up to the 1997 UrS An and 1995 RS2 DU, so you might find some good ones in wrecking yards.
