To clarify the points, we discuss examples of VBM management of stroke patients.In our conclusions, we support the idea of VBM as a strategic aid to manage rising costs in healthcare, and we explore the idea that VBM, by establishing value-generating networks among different healthcare stakeholders, can serve as the long sought-after redistributive mechanism that compensate patients for the industrial exploitation of their personal medical records.BACKGROUND The mean platelet volume (MPV) is an important indicator of platelet function with large platelets showing higher enzymatic and metabolic activity than other platelets. There can be a relationship between increased platelet activity and anxiety and depression. Our primary hypothesis was that patients with high anxiety scores would have higher MPV, and the secondary hypothesis was that propofol induction time and total propofol consumption within the first 30 min of surgery would be higher in patients with higher anxiety scores. METHODS The Beck Anxiety Inventory (BAI) was administered to the participating patients 1 day before surgery to evaluate the level of anxiety. Based on the scores from the BAI, 40 patients with an anxiety score of less then  8 were assigned to the non-anxious group (Group NA) and 40 patients with an anxiety score of ≥8 were assigned to the anxious group (Group A). At the anesthesia induction the mean time to achieve an entropy value below 60 (T1) was recorded. The total intraoperative propofol consumption within the first 30 min was recorded. RESULTS There was a statistically significant difference between the groups in terms of preoperative MPV and demographic data, including age and sex. The mean total propofol consumption at 30 min after induction in the groups was statistically significant. The cut-off value for MPV was calculated as 9.65. CONCLUSIONS The preoperative MPV values and propofol consumption at 30 min among patients with high preoperative anxiety scores were high. We suggest that MPV is helpful in the clinical practice in predicting the amount of anesthetic agents required for the 30 mins of anesthesia.BACKGROUND Improved neonatal care has resulted in increased survival rates among infants born after only 22 gestational weeks, but extremely preterm children still have an increased risk of neurodevelopmental delays, learning disabilities and reduced cognitive capacity, particularly executive function deficits. Parent-child interaction and parental mental health are associated with infant development, regardless of preterm birth. There is a need for further early interventions directed towards extremely preterm (EPT) children as well as their parents. The purpose of this paper is to describe the Stockholm Preterm Interaction-Based Intervention (SPIBI), the arrangements of the SPIBI trial and the chosen outcome measurements. METHODS The SPIBI is a randomized clinical trial that includes EPT infants and their parents upon discharge from four neonatal units in Stockholm, Sweden. Inclusion criteria are EPT infants soon to be discharged from a neonatal intensive care unit (NICU), with parents speaking Swedish or ESSION If the SPIBI shows positive results, it could be considered for clinical implementation for child-support, ethical and health-economic purposes. Regardless of the outcome, the trial will provide valuable information about extremely preterm children and their parents during infancy and toddlerhood after regional hospital care in Sweden. TRIAL REGISTRATION The study was registered in ClinicalTrials.gov in October 2018 (NCT03714633).BACKGROUND Optical quality and macular thickness changing optical quality is rarely reported after femtosecond laser-assisted cataract surgery (FLACS). In current research, we evaluated optical quality recovery and distinct macular thickness changes after FLACS and phacoemulsification cataract surgery (PCS). METHODS A total of 100 cataract patients (100 eyes) were included (50 eyes for the FLACS group and 50 eyes for the PCS group). Modulation transfer function (MTF), point spread function (PSF) and dysfunctional lens index (DLI) were measured by a ray-tracing aberrometer (iTrace). Uncorrected distance visual acuity (UDVA) and corrected distance visual acuity (CDVA) were also assessed pre-operation,1 week and 1 month after surgery. The MTF values at spatial frequencies of 5, 10, 15, 20, 25 and 30 cycles/degree (c/d) were selected. We used optical coherence tomography (OCT) to assess the macular thickness of different regions pre-operatively and1month after the surgery. Heptadecanoic acid RESULTS In PCS group, we found the statice macular thickness changes, but better optical quality recovery. The slightly retinal change may not affect optical quality.The mechanism of vibrational relaxation and dissociation in the O2-O system at elevated temperatures is investigated by means of molecular dynamics. The most recent O3 potential energy surfaces (PESs), obtained from the first principles quantum mechanical calculations [Varga et al., J. Chem. Phys. 147, 154312 (2017)], are used to derive a complete set of state-specific rate coefficients of vibrational energy transfer and dissociation. Unlike most of the previous efforts that utilize only the lowest and supposedly most reactive 11A' O3 PES [A. Varandas and A. Pais, Mol. Phys. 65, 843 (1988)], this paper demonstrates the necessity to account for a complete ensemble of all excited O3 PESs that correlate with O2(X) and O(3P) when high-temperature kinetics is of interest. At the same time, it is found that the Varandas 11A' O3 PES adequately describes vibrational energy transfer and dissociating dynamics when compared to the most recent 11A' O3 PES by Varga et al. [J. Chem Phys. 147, 154312 (2017)]. The differences between this new dataset and previous rate coefficients are quantified by the master equation model.The key process in organic solar cell operation is charge separation under light illumination. Due to the low dielectric constant of organic materials, the Coulomb attraction energy within the interfacial charge-transfer state (CTS) is larger than the thermal energy. Understanding the mechanism of charge separation at the organic donor/acceptor interface still remains a challenge and requires knowledge of the CTS temporal evolution. To address this problem, the CTS in the benchmark photovoltaic blend PCDTBT/PC71BM was studied by the out-of-phase Electron Spin Echo (ESE). The protocol for determining the CTS geminate recombination rate for certain electron-hole distances was developed. Simulating the out-of-phase ESE trace for the CTS in the PCDTBT/PC71BM blend allows precise determination of the electron-hole distance distribution function and its evolution with the increase in the delay after the laser flash. Distances of charge separation up to 6 nm were detected upon thermalization at a temperature of 20 K. Assuming the exponential decay of the recombination rate, the attenuation factor β = 0.08 Å-1 is estimated for the PCDTBT/PC71BM blend. Such a low attenuation factor is probably caused by a high degree of hole delocalization along the PCDTBT chain.Dissipaton-equation-of-motion (DEOM) theory [Y. J. Yan, J. Chem. Phys. 140, 054105 (2014)] is an exact and nonperturbative many-particle method for open quantum systems. The existing dissipaton algebra also treats the dynamics of hybrid bath solvation coordinates. The dynamics of conjugate momentums remain to be addressed within the DEOM framework. In this work, we establish this missing ingredient, the dissipaton algebra on solvation momentums, with rigorous validations against necessary and sufficient criteria. The resulted phase-space DEOM theory will serve as a solid ground for further developments of various practical methods toward a broad range of applications. We illustrate this novel dissipaton algebra with the phase-space DEOM-evaluation on heat current fluctuation.We develop two novel transition path sampling (TPS) algorithms for harvesting ensembles of rare event trajectories using non-equilibrium dynamics. These methods have the advantage that no predefined reaction coordinate is needed. Instead, an instantaneous reaction coordinate is based on the current path. Constituting a Monte Carlo random walk in trajectory space, the algorithms can be viewed as bridging between the original TPS methodology and the Rosenbluth based forward flux sampling methodology. We illustrate the new methods on toy models undergoing equilibrium and non-equilibrium dynamics, including an active Brownian particle system. For the latter, we find that transitions between steady states occur via states that are locally ordered but globally disordered.We have studied the magneto-electroluminescence (MEL) response in light emitting diodes based on 2D-(PEA)2PbI4 and 3D-MAPbI3 hybrid organic-inorganic perovskites at cryogenic temperatures. We found that the MEL is negative, i.e., the EL decreases with the applied field strength, B. In addition, the MEL(B) response has a Lorentzian line shape whose width depends on the perovskite used. We interpret the MEL(B) response using the "Δg mechanism" in which the spin of the injected electron-hole (e-h) pairs oscillates between singlet and triplet configurations due to different precession frequencies of the electron and hole constituents that originate from the difference, Δg, in the electron and hole gyromagnetic constants, g. In this model, the MEL(B) linewidth is inversely proportional to the spin lifetime and Δg. The model used is validated by directly measuring the spin lifetime of photogenerated e-h pairs using the circularly polarized pump-probe transmission technique with 100 fs resolution.Atomic layer deposition (ALD) is a powerful tool for achieving atomic level control in the deposition of thin films. However, several physical and chemical phenomena can occur which cause deviation from "ideal" film growth during ALD. Understanding the underlying mechanisms that cause these deviations is important to achieving even better control over the growth of the deposited material. Herein, we review several precursor chemisorption mechanisms and the effect of chemisorption on ALD growth. We then follow with a discussion on diffusion and its impact on film growth during ALD. Together, these two fundamental processes of chemisorption and diffusion underlie the majority of mechanisms which contribute to material growth during a given ALD process, and the recognition of their role allows for more rational design of ALD parameters.
