Higher education institutions are becoming more diverse, yet the integration of underprivileged students remains a challenge. Using a social network approach, we analyze the general integration of low socioeconomic status (SES) students, as well as how segregated by class these friends are. The object of analysis is the extreme case of an elite university that, based on a government loan program (Ser Pilo Paga), opened its doors to many low-SES students in a very unequal country, Colombia. Using a mixed methods perspective, including a survey, 61 in depth interviews, and ethnographic observation, we analyze friendship networks and their meanings, barriers, and facilitators. Contrary to the literature, we find that low-SES students had, on average, the same number of connections and were no more isolated than students from upper social classes. Also, low-SES students' networks were not more segregated, even if relations with the upper classes were less likely and required more relational work than with middle or lower class friends. This high level of social integration stemmed from the intense relational work that low-SES students engage in, so as to fit in. Middle class friends act as a catalyst that can enable cross-class friendships.Although transdisciplinarity has taken hold in many areas, it is still a concept in its early stages of development in Latin America. We see an emergent opportunity to contribute to the current discussion on transdisciplinarity and its institutionalization at universities. Our specific interest in this paper is to disentangle the conditions under which transdisciplinarity is developed in Latin American contexts and how it can be better implemented within those contexts. Our study focuses on the context of "Latin American Public Universities." We examine the following research questions (i) How is transdisciplinarity conceptualized in university policy and what are the conditions for its institutionalization? (ii) What lessons can be drawn more broadly from the role of university policy in the process of institutionalizing transdisciplinarity? To address these questions, we take the Universidad de Chile as a case study and apply a qualitative methodology of content analysis of university policy documents in the period 2006-2021. Grounded on empirical data, we elaborate on the concept of "situated transdisciplinarity" that emerges from the interplay between practices and policy at the Universidad de Chile and serves as a tool for future institutionalizing processes. We conclude that the concept of "situated transdisciplinarity" can orient transdisciplinary research policy, by problematizing discourses and perceptions.Respiratory viruses represent a severe public health risk worldwide, and the research contribution to tackle the current pandemic caused by the SARS-CoV-2 is one of the main targets among the scientific community. In this regard, experts from different fields have gathered to confront this catastrophic pandemic. This review illustrates how nanotechnology intervention could be valuable in solving this difficult situation, and the state of the art of Zn-based nanostructures are discussed in detail. For virus detection, learning from the experience of other respiratory viruses such as influenza, the potential use of Zn nanomaterials as suitable sensing platforms to recognize the S1 spike protein in SARS-CoV-2 are shown. Furthermore, a discussion about the antiviral mechanisms reported for ZnO nanostructures is included, which can help develop surface disinfectants and protective coatings. At the same time, the properties of Zn-based materials as supplements for reducing viral activity and the recovery of infected patients are illustrated. Within the scope of noble adjuvants to improve the immune response, the ZnO NPs properties as immunomodulators are explained, and potential prototypes of nanoengineered particles with metallic cations (like Zn2+) are suggested. Therefore, using Zn-associated nanomaterials from detection to disinfection, supplementation, and immunomodulation opens a wide area of opportunities to combat these emerging respiratory viruses. Finally, the attractive properties of these nanomaterials can be extrapolated to new clinical challenges.This paper uncovers and exploits a link between a central object in harmonic analysis, the so-called Schur functions, and the very hot topic of symmetry protected topological phases of quantum matter. This connection is found in the setting of quantum walks, i.e. quantum analogs of classical random walks. We prove that topological indices classifying symmetry protected topological phases of quantum walks are encoded by matrix Schur functions built out of the walk. This main result of the paper reduces the calculation of these topological indices to a linear algebra problem calculating symmetry indices of finite-dimensional unitaries obtained by evaluating such matrix Schur functions at the symmetry protected points ± 1 . The Schur representation fully covers the complete set of symmetry indices for 1D quantum walks with a group of symmetries realizing any of the symmetry types of the tenfold way. The main advantage of the Schur approach is its validity in the absence of translation invariance, which allows us to go beyond standard Fourier methods, leading to the complete classification of non-translation invariant phases for typical examples.This paper investigates the uniqueness of parameters via persistence of excitation for switched linear systems. The main contribution is a much weaker sufficient condition on the regressors to be persistently exciting that guarantees the uniqueness of the parameter sets and also provides new insights in understanding the relation among different subsystems. To evaluate the effect of cognitive and sociodemographic characteristics of healthcare and non-healthcare workers on their traumatic responses to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Data were collected using an online survey between August-September 2020. The survey included the following scales Beck Anxiety Inventory (BAI), Anxiety Sensitivity Index (ASI), and Impact of Event Scale-Revised (IES-R). Traumatic responses were categorized into three types avoidance (IES-R_A), intrusion (IES-R_I), and hyperarousal (IES-R_H).

The study included a total of 672 participants, comprised of 399 (59.4%) men, and 273 (40.6%) women with a mean age of 39.25±933 years. The results indicated that women had higher IES-R_I (
=.5.78, p<0.001), IES-R_A (
=4.47, p<0.001), and IES-R_H (
=.5.20, p<0.001) scores compared to men. Patients with a history of psychiatric diseases had significantly higher IES-R_I (
=-3.82, p<0.001), IES-R_A (
=-2.00, p<0.05), and IES-R_H (
=-4.06, p<0.001) scores compared to patients with no history of psychiatric diseases. Non-healthcare workers had significantly higher IES-R_A (
=-2.69, p<0.01) scores compared to healthcare workers.

While integrating genetics into primary care could facilitate access, many primary care physicians lack genomics expertise. Integrating genetic counsellors (GCs) into primary care could theoretically address these issues, but little is known about how to do this effectively. To understand and describe the process of integrating a GC into a multidisciplinary primary care setting, we qualitatively explored the perceptions, attitudes and reactions of existing team members prior to, and after the introduction of a GC. Semi-structured interviews were conducted immediately prior to (T1), and 9 months after (T2), the GC joining the clinic. Interviews were recorded, transcribed verbatim and analyzed concurrently with data collection using interpretive description. Twenty-four interviews were conducted with 17 participants (13 at T1, 11 at T2). Participants described several distinct, progressive stages of interaction with the GC Disinterest or Resistance, Pre-Collaboration, Initial Collaboration, and Effective Collaboration/Integration of the GC into the team. At each stage, specific needs had to be met in order to advance to the next stage of collaboration. A variety of barriers and facilitators attended movement between different stages of the model. The Stepwise Process of Integration Model describes the process through which primary care staff and clinicians integrate a GC into their practice. The insight provided by this model could be used to facilitate more effective integration of GCs into other primary care settings.
