Background: This study aimed to determine the
students' critical thinking skills (CTS) as
predictors of students' mathematics performance
in a Problem-Based Learning (PBL) environment. Methods and Findings: This study employed a descriptive-qualitative research approach. The data collected was pretest, posttest, and interviews. Pretest results showed that the students had lower levels of CTS and performance. Posttest revealed that students improved their mathematics performance to Very
Satisfactory as their level of CTS improved,
generally evaluated as Advanced Thinkers.
Regression analysis showed that CTS is a
significant predictor of performance (all β's> 0; all
p's < 0.001). Focus group discussions were
employed to highlight students' experiences with
PBL.
Conclusion: PBL can improve students' critical
thinking skills and performance in teaching
functions. There is a direct relationship between
CTS (X) and performance (Y). Teachers can adapt
PBL modules as teaching-learning pedagogy to
teach other math topics.
Keywords: Problem-Based Learning, Critical
Thinking Skills, Mathematics Performance.

Abstract 2

The study aimed to develop, validate and determine the level of acceptability of a content-based strategic teaching guide in Trends, Networks and Critical thinking in the 21st Century in developing the competencies for the subject Oral Communication in Context. It utilized a quantitative method of gathering data based on a descriptive-developmental research design. Based on the findings, the competencies in Oral Communication in Context were successfully attained by the developed teaching guide. Critical thinking and problem solving gained the highest overall mean which is verbally interpreted as Proficient; written communication skills came second which is interpreted as Accomplished; and the third in rank is oral communication skills which is interpreted as Effective. The level of acceptability of the material was measured based on content, format, organization and presentation and accuracy and up-to-datedness of information. Results revealed that the material is highly acceptable based on the evaluation of HUMSS teachers, users and curriculum writers. Despite the high ratings, a few points for improvement were given by the curriculum writers which all focused generally on the design and physical features of the developed material. In conclusion, the developed material can be an efficient tool to teach the target subject area, but minor improvements shall be considered.

Abstract 3

This study which utilized the research and development design aimed to develop instructional module
in enhancing the study and thinking skills of learners and to validate their functionality, relevance,
and acceptability. It was conducted in December, 2019 in the Schools Division of Iloilo. The
respondents of this study are the 177 senior high school and hybrid English teachers, 30 teacher-
validators and 5 experts. The data were gathered using the researcher-made needs analysis survey,
and the evaluation tools for functionality and relevance and an adopted instrument for the
acceptability. The development of learning modules underwent four phases: (1) document and needs
analysis; (2) the development of modules; (3) the evaluation by teacher- validators and expert-
evaluators; and (4) finalization and reproduction of modules in their final form. Results show that
the teacher-validators perceive the instructional module as highly functional and highly relevant
while the experts evaluated the instruments as excellent in all areas of the modules such as the
objectives, instruction, learning activities, physical aspects and evaluation measures.

Synthesis: Similarity and Contrast

Contrast:
The objective of this research paper is to show the importance of students critical thinking skills (CTS). The first abstract focus on how students CTS can improve through Problem-based learning (PBL) environment. In contrast, the second abstract, based on what they found, they proved that critical thinking and problem solving are effective. Because they gained the highest overall mean, which is verbally interpreted as proficient. And the third abstract focuses on study which utilized the research and development design aimed to develop instructional module in enhancing the study and thinking skills of learners and to validate their functionality, relevance,
and acceptability.

Similarity: The three research paper shows the depelopment and improved critical thinking skills. The first one posttest revealed that students improved their mathematics performance to Very Satisfactory as their level of CTS improved, generally evaluated as Advanced Thinkers. second one, study aimed to develop, validate and determine the level of acceptability of a content-based strategic teaching guide in Trends, Networks and Critical thinking in the 21st Century in developing the competencies for the subject Oral Communication in Context. And the third study which utilized the research and development design aimed to develop instructional module in enhancing the study and thinking skills of learners and to validate their functionality, relevance,
and acceptability.
