Owing to their favorable chemical stabilities and electronic conductivities, transition metal nitrides (TMNs) have been targeted as the potential electrode materials for the supercapacitors. Herein, 3D CrN@nitrogen-doped carbon nanosheet arrays (NCs) were successfully deposited on carbon paper (CP) by reactive magnetron sputtering method. The CrN@NCs@CP electrode exhibited satisfactory electrochemical properties initially, the electrode showed a 132.1 mF cm-2 specific capacitance at 1.0 mA cm-2 current density; subsequently, the electrode demonstrated a 95.9% capacitance retention after 20,000 galvanostatic charge-discharge cycles at 5.0 mA cm-2 current density. The specific capacitance of the CrN@NCs@CP electrode was significantly higher than that of the CrN@CP electrode (4.1 mF cm-2 at 1.0 mA cm-2). Furthermore, the symmetric supercapacitor that incorporated two CrN@NCs@CP electrodes demonstrated 5.28 μWh cm-2 (2.7 Wh kg-1) energy density at 0.41 mW cm-2 power density. These findings exemplify the suitability of the 3D composite electrodes of TMNs for energy storage application. As the power conversion efficiencies of organic solar cells (OSCs) have been improved continuously in recent years, more attention will be paid to the industrial production and practical application of OSCs. However, there are still many problems to be solved in the process of large-scale production. Among them, reducing the costs of the materials and enhancing the film-thickness tolerance of the active layer are the two key points. Therefore, it is urgent to develop organic semiconductor materials which are easy to synthesize and suitable for the construction of high-efficiency, thick-film OSCs. In this work, we have focused on the (E)-2-[2-(thiophen-2-yl)vinyl]thiophene (TVT) unit because of its unique coplanar structure. And we noticed that TVT was mostly used as an electron-donating unit in the previous reports. However, we have successfully modified TVT into a new type of electron-withdrawing unit by the introduction of fluorine atoms/ester groups. And two new donor-acceptor (D-A) copolymers have been obtained by combining the new TVT unit with benzo[2,1-b4,5-b']dithiophene unit. Among them, the polymer based on the ester modified TVT unit presents excellent photovoltaic performance by virtue of its good solubility and preferable molecular stacking mode, and the corresponding devices also show extraordinarily high-thickness tolerance. JAK drugs The emergence of this new electron-withdrawing TVT unit will undoubtedly further promote the development of low-cost, high-efficiency, thick-film OSCs.
Megavoltage computed tomography (MV-CT) is used for setup verification and adaptive radiotherapy in tomotherapy. However, its low contrast and high noise lead to poor image quality. This study aimed to develop a deep-learning-based method to generate synthetic kilovoltage CT (skV-CT) and then evaluate its ability to improve image quality and tumor segmentation.
The planning kV-CT and MV-CT images of 270 patients with nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC) treated on an Accuray TomoHD system were used. An improved Cycle-Consistent Adversarial Networks which used residual blocks as its generator was adopted to learn the mapping between MV-CT and kV-CT and then generate skV-CT from MV-CT. A Catphan 700 phantom and 30 patients with NPC were used to evaluate image quality. The quantitative indices included contrast-to-noise ratio (CNR), uniformity and signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) for the phantom and the structural similarity index measure (SSIM), mean absolute error (MAE), and peak signal-to-noise ratio (PSNR) for patienefit adaptive radiotherapy.
Accumulating evidence has revealed that emotions can be provided with the modulatory effect on working memory and working memory load is an important factor for the interaction between emotion and working memory. However, it remains controversial whether emotions inhibit or facilitate working memory and the interaction between cognitive task, processing load and emotional processing remains unclear.
In this study, we used a change detection paradigm wherein memory items have four different load sizes and emotion videos to induce three emotions (negative, neutral, and positive). We performed an event-related spectral perturbation (ERSP) analysis and a spatiotemporal pattern similarity (STPS) analysis on the electroencephalography data.
The ERSP results indicated that alpha and beta oscillations can reflect the difference among working memory load sizes and also can reflect the difference among emotions under middle high working memory load over posterior brain region in the maintenance stage. Moreover, tformation storage during working memory maintenance.
The study compared parental ratings of children's language abilities at 3-years of age with observations of children's language performance by Speech Language Pathologists (SLPs).
Children (n=85) around 3-years of age were recruited from a child development clinic. Detailed speech and language assessments were completed during a one-hour semi-structured clinician-child interactive session. Language assessment was carried out using a criterion-referenced checklist and the language sections of the Bayley Scale for Infant Development- 3rd Edition (BSID-III). All parents rated their children's language skills using seven statements related to reception and expression domains of language on a 7-point rating scale. The language status of the child (typical language vs delay) determined by the parental report was matched with the language status as per the child's performance during the SLP assessment.
Mean parental ratings of children assessed as having language delay by an SLP were significantly lower than c useful to red-flag children for further assessment and continued monitoring of language development in busy developmental clinics and preschools, especially in the context of low-resource settings.
Approximately 1-6 in every 1000 children are born with hearing loss. An automated auditory brainstem response (AABR) test is essential for screening newborns for abnormal hearing. At the tertiary hospital, we have been using a two-step AABR protocol for newborn hearing assessment since 2005. This study aimed to report the 10-year hearing screening results of newborns at the institution, and prove the efficacy of the two-step AABR protocol.
From August 2005 to January 2015, 3059 newborns were screened through AABR testing using the MASTER ABaer system. The first screening test was performed after the first 24h of life. If a newborn was referred, the test was performed within 1 month after discharge from the hospital. The results were regarded as pass when the point optimized variance ratio was >3.5, using a stimulus level of 35dB HL. When newborns were referred for the second AABR, they received follow-up tests including tympanometry, ABR, auditory steady-state response, and otoacoustic emission within 3 months.
A total of 3059 newborns underwent newborn hearing screening tests over a period of 10 years. One hundred and twenty (3.9%) newborns were referred with the initial AABR, and 104 (3.4%) were referred with a subsequent AABR. Of the newborns, 42 (1.37%) were confirmed to have a bilateral hearing impairment.
It is known that the referral rate for the AABR test is 3-4%, as recommended by the Joint Committee on Infant Hearing. Our data showed a referral rate of 3.4%. The two-step AABR test has been useful for screening hearing loss in newborns at tertiary hospital.

With the easily available option for surgeons to soak their suture in antibiotic irrigation solution intraoperatively in mind, this study was designed to evaluate the ability of suture soaked in bacitracin irrigation solution to inhibit the growth of Staphylococcus aureus and Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus.
Using standard experimental procedure, sterile suture was soaked in Bacitracin, and dried for 10 min or 6 h, incubated for 24 h on inoculated plates, and examined for zone of inhibition around the suture. This was compared to control unsoaked suture and antimicrobial suture (AMS) currently on the market to determine if the minor intraoperative procedural change of placing suture in antibiotic irrigation solution instead of on the sterile table could confer comparable antimicrobial activity.
The study found the Bacitracin-soaked suture (BSS) consistently inhibited the growth of the test organisms. For both organisms, the BSS exhibited a significantly larger zone of inhibition compared to the unsoaked control suture (P < 0.0001). However, both the AMS currently on the market, and a bacitracin aliquot, exhibited significantly larger zones of inhibition compared to both drying times of the BSS (P < 0.0001).
Placing sutures in a bacitracin irrigation solution intraoperatively instead of directly on the sterile table can achieve some of the in vitro antimicrobial effect seen from AMS currently on the market. This may result in reduced rates of surgical site infections and associated costs without major procedural change and at reduced overhead.

The current study was done to examine the efficacy of naproxen in the management of patients with COVID-19 infection.
This randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled, clinical trial was done on hospitalized adult patients with confirmed COVID-19 infection. Patients were randomly assigned to receive either naproxen (two capsules per day each containing 500mg naproxen sodium) or placebo (containing starch) for five days along with the routine treatment that was nationally recommended for COVID-19 infection. Clinical symptoms of COVID-19 infection, the time to clinical improvement, blood pressure, laboratory parameters, and death due to COVID-19 infection were considered as the outcome variables in the present study.
Treatment with naproxen improved cough and shortness of breath in COVID-19 patients; such that, compared with placebo, naproxen intake was associated with 2.90 (95% CI 1.10-7.66) and 2.82 (95% CI 1.05-7.55) times more improvement in cough and shortness of breath, respectively. In addition, naproxen administration resulted in a significant increase in mean corpuscular volume (MCV) and had a preventive effect on the reduction of systolic blood pressure in COVID-19 patients.
Treatment with naproxen can improve cough and shortness of breath in COVID-19-infected patients. Further studies are required to confirm our findings.
