sensitivity was 95%, specificity was 61%, PPV was 62%, and NPV was 94.4%. In a veteran population with chronic HCV infection, we found the sensitivity of the FIB-4 score to be unacceptably low for ruling out liver cirrhosis when using a binary cutoff at 3.25. Using a second staging method like VCTE may be an effective way to screen for liver cirrhosis in persons with chronic HCV, especially when the FIB-4 score is in the indeterminate range.
Cosmetic appearance is a major concern for living donors. However, little is known about the impact of a surgical scar on body image changes in living liver donors. The aim of this study was to identify potential factors that cause displeasing upper midline incision scar, and to evaluate the overall satisfaction regarding body image and scarring after living donor hepatectomy.Donors who underwent right lobe hepatectomy were recruited. Exclusion criteria included reoperation, refusal to participate, and lost follow-up. All donors were invited to complete the Vancouver Scar Scale (VSS) and the body image questionnaire. According to the VSS results of upper midline incision scar, donors were divided into 2 groups good scarring group (VSS ≤4) and bad scarring group (VSS >4). we compared the clinical outcomes, including the demographics, preoperation, intraoperation, and postoperation variables. The study also analyzed the results of the body image questionnaire. The proportion of male donors was 48.9%. selleck products The ba.The proportion of male donors was 48.9%. The bad scarring group consisted of 63% of the donors. On multivariate analysis, being a male donor was found to be an independent predictor of a cosmetically displeasing upper midline incision scar with statistical significance. The results of body image questionnaires, there were significant differences in cosmetic score and confidence score among the 2 groups. The upper midline incision and male donors have higher rates of scarring in comparison with the transverse incision and female donors. Donors who reported having a higher satisfaction with their scar appearance usually had more self-confidence. However, the body image won't be affected. Medical staff should encourage donors to take active participation in wound care and continuously observe the impact of surgical scars on psychological changes in living liver donors.
With high diagnostic accuracy, magnetic resonance elastography (MRE) is a noninvasive tool and can be adopted to measure liver stiffness (LS). In this study, meta-analysis was carried out to further evaluate whether LS measured by MRE can predict early recurrence in patients with hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC).
PUBMED, EMBASE, Web of Science, China National Knowledge Infrastructure, and Cochrane Library database were searched for studies related to LS measured by MRE in the prediction of recurrence in patients with HCC. Survival outcome was estimated by hazard ratios and 95% confidence intervals. Meta-analysis was conducted with the Stata 16.0.
The results of this meta-analysis will be submitted to a peer-reviewed journal for publication.

Cigarette smoking is an important modifiable risk factor for incident atrial fibrillation. However, the impact of smoking on postoperative atrial fibrillation in patients undergoing cardiac surgery remains controversial. We performed this meta-analysis to explore the association of smoking with postoperative atrial fibrillation in patients with cardiac surgery.
We systematically searched 2 computer-based databases (PubMed and EMBASE) up to July 2019 for all relevant studies. A random-effects model was selected to pool the odds ratios (ORs) and 95% confidence intervals (CIs). In this meta-analysis, the protocol and reporting of the results were based on the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) statement.
A total of 36 studies were included in this meta-analysis. Overall, smoking was not associated with an increased risk of postoperative atrial fibrillation in patients undergoing cardiac surgery (odds ratio [OR] = 0.89; 95% confidence interval [CI] 0.79-1.02). The corresponding results were stable in the subgroup analyses. Specifically, smoking was not associated with an increased risk of postoperative atrial fibrillation regardless of the type of cardiac surgery coronary artery bypass grafting (OR = 0.91; 95% CI 0.77-1.07), valve surgery (OR = 0.15; 95% CI 0.01-1.56), and coronary artery bypass grafting+valve surgery (OR = 0.91; 95% CI 0.70-1.18).
Based on currently published studies, smoking was not associated with an increased risk of postoperative atrial fibrillation in patients undergoing cardiac surgery.

Rational emotive education (REE) program aims to improve the behavioral and mental health of students. This study objective was to evaluate the effect of an REE program on stress among undergraduate students of religious education program in Nigerian Universities.
One hundred and fifty (150) religious education undergraduates who had high level of stress participated in the study. Participants were assigned to 2 different groups. The treatment group had 75 participants and while control group also had 75 participants. Data collection was done using the Perceived Stress Scale (PSS-10) while data analysis was done using independent sample t test and paired t test statistics at .05 probability level.
The REE program resulted in a significant decrease in level of stress among undergraduate students of religious education program in the treatment group compared with those students in the control group. Also, the effect of the REE program was maintained during the follow-up among undergraduate students of religious education program exposed to it.
The REE program can be used to assist undergraduate students of religious education program to manage their stress.

At present, whether respiratory training can improve the lung function, quality of life, and mental health of patients with Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) is still controversial. Therefore, in order to provide new evidence-based medicine for clinical treatment, we conducted a systematic review and meta-analysis to evaluate the effects of respiratory training in improving lung function, quality of life, and mental health of patients with COVID-19.
Relevant publications were searched from clinical trials. Computer was used to retrieve Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials Repositories, PubMed, Embase, and Web of Science databases. The retrieval time limit was from the establishment of the database to April 2021. Two researchers independently carried out data extraction and literature quality evaluation on the quality and meta-analysis of the included literature was performed with Revman 5.3 software.
The results of this meta-analysis will be submitted to a peer-reviewed journal for publication.
This study will provide reliable evidence-based evidence on the effects of breathing training on lung function, bad mood, and quality of life in patients with COVID-19.
Ethical approval was not required for this study. The systematic review will be published in a peer-reviewed journal, presented at conferences, and shared on social media platforms.

Atrial fibrillation (AF) is the most common cardiac arrhythmia and is associated with increased morbidity, especially stroke and heart failure. There is also increasing awareness that atrial fibrillation is a major cause of embolic events which in 75% of cases are complicated by cerebrovascular accidents.
A 50-year-old woman with mitral bioprosthesis under warfarin for nonvalvular atrial fibrillation was referred to our Coronary Intensive Care Unit due to acute myocardial infarction without evidence of significant coronary artery stenosis.
Cardiovascular examination showed an irregular pulse and a grade II diastolic murmur was audible at the apical area. The patient underwent coronary angiography showing absence of obstructive coronary artery disease. We decided to replace Warfarin with direct oral anticoagulants as anticoagulant therapy.
Transoesophageal echocardiography revealed a thrombus in left atrial appendage that was treated by replacing warfarin with an oral direct thrombin inhibitor.
At 2-month follow-up, the therapy showed to be effective for thrombus resolution.
Our case demonstrated how AF has high risk of thromboembolic complications, not only in terms of stroke but also of myocardial infarction and death. The use of direct oral anticoagulants in AF patients with bioprosthetic heart valves is still debated due to an unclear definition of "nonvalvular" AF.

Pancreatic cancer (PC) is a malignant tumor which ranks fourth in cancer-related death. However, the specificity and sensitivity of traditional biomarkers such as carbohydrate antigen 19-9 no longer meet the clinical requirements.Tools as ONCOMINE and Gene Expression Profiling Interactive Analysis (GEPIA) were used to analyze the differential expression of matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs) in PC and adjacent tissues. For further analysis, we adopted database for annotation, visualization and integrated discovery (DAVID 6.8), transcriptional regulatory relationships unraveled by sentence-based text (TRRUST) and other tools. link2 We also identified drugs targeted the selected MMPs.Eight MMPs (MMP1, MMP2, MMP7, MMP9, MMP11, MMP12, MMP14, and MMP28) were differentially expressed in PC and adjacent tissue. link3 MMP1 (P = .0189), MMP7 (P = .000216), MMP11 (P = .0209), MMP14 (P = .00611) were correlated with the pathological stages of PC. Patients with higher expression of MMP1 (P = .0011), MMP2 (P = .011), MMP7 (P = .0081), targeted the selected MMPs.Eight MMPs (MMP1, MMP2, MMP7, MMP9, MMP11, MMP12, MMP14, and MMP28) were differentially expressed in PC and adjacent tissue.
