Non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) is the leading cause of cancer-related deaths. The development of therapies targeting molecular alterations has significantly improved the treatment of NSCLC patients. To identify these targets, tumor phenotyping is required, with tissue biopsies and molecular pathology being the gold standard. Some patients do not respond to targeted therapies and many patients suffer from tumor recurrence, which can in part be explained by tumor heterogeneity. This points out the need for new biomarkers allowing for better tumor phenotyping and monitoring during treatment to assess patient outcome.

The contents of this review are based on a literature search conducted using the PubMed database in March 2021 and the authors' experience.

The use of radiomics and artificial intelligence-based approaches allows for the identification of imaging biomarkers in NSCLC patients for tumor phenotyping. Several studies show promising results for models predicting molecular alterations, with trkers but also clinical data sources, such as liquid biopsy results, could further enhance the prediction and assessment of therapy response..

In patients with malignant lymphoma, disease activity is recommended to be assessed by FDG-PET/CT and the Deauville five-point scale (5-PS). The purpose of this study was to explore the potential of iodine concentration measured in contrast-enhanced dual-layer spectral detector CT (SDCT) as an alternative surrogate parameter for lymphoma disease activity by investigating its correlation with maximum standardized uptake values (SUV
) and 5-PS.

25 patients were retrospectively analyzed. Contrast-enhanced SDCT and FDG-PET/CT were performed in the same treatment interval within at most 3months. CT attenuation values (AV), absolute iodine concentrations (aIC), and normalized iodine concentrations (nIC) of lymphoma lesions were correlated with SUV
using Spearman's rank correlation coefficient. The performance of aIC and nIC to detect lymphoma activity (defined as 5-PS > 3) was determined using ROC curves.

60 lesions were analyzed, and 31 lesions were considered active. AV, aIC, and nIC all correlatede of iodine concentration.

Over the past few decades, radiology has established itself in tumor therapy through interventional oncology including innovative and efficient procedures for minimalinvasive treatment of various tumor entities besides the "classic" therapeutic options such as surgery, chemotherapy and radiotherapy.Aim of this study was to evaluate the extent to which interventional oncology can provide nationwide care using thedata from the register of the German Society for Interventional Radiology and Minimally Invasive Therapy (DeGIR registry), which records radiological interventions as part of quality assurance.

The numbers of interventions of participating clinics, which were recorded as part of module D (oncological procedures including TACE or other tumor-specific embolization, ablation, percutaneous tumor therapy) and identified bythe DeGIR registry between 2018 and 2019, were analyzed retrospectively. The collected intervention data were evaluated regarding federal states and 40 smaller regions (administrativmand of oncological interventions might not be sufficiently covered in some regions.

· Interventional-oncological tumor therapies are performed throughout Germany. · Looking at the notable geographical differences, the need for interventional oncological procedures does not seem to be sufficiently met.. · In order to improve the comprehensive provision of oncological interventions, the training of interventional radiologists should be promoted further..

Classifications were created to facilitate radiological evaluation of the novel coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) on computed tomography (CT) images. The categorical CT assessment scheme (CO-RADS) categorizes lung parenchymal changes according to their likelihood of being caused by SARS-CoV-2 infection. This study investigates the diagnostic accuracy of diagnosing COVID-19 with CO-RADS compared to the Thoracic Imaging Section of the German Radiological Society (DRG) classification and Radiological Society of North America (RSNA) classification in an anonymized patient cohort. To mimic advanced disease stages, follow-up examinations were included as well.

This study includes all patients undergoing chest CT in the case of a suspected SARS-CoV-2 infection or an already confirmed infection between March 13 and November 30, 2020. During the study period, two regional lockdowns occurred due to high incidence values, increasing the pre-test probability of COVID-19. Anonymized CT images were reviewed retrospd setting. · Pre-test probability has a great influence on the individual classifications. · Difficulties in an anonymized study setting are severe pulmonary changes and residuals..

Clinically, asthma has a widely variable presentation and is defined based on a history of respiratory symptoms alongside airflow limitation. Imaging is not needed to confirm a diagnosis of asthma, and thus the use of imaging in asthma has historically been limited to excluding alternative diagnoses. However, significant advances continue to be made in novel imaging methodologies, which have been increasingly used to better understand respiratory impairment in asthma. As a disease primarily impacting the airways, asthma is best understood by imaging methods with the ability to elucidate airway impairment. Techniques such as computed tomography, magnetic resonance imaging with gaseous contrast agents, and positron emission tomography enable assessment of the small airways. Others, such as optical coherence tomography and endobronchial ultrasound enable high-resolution imaging of the large airways accessible to bronchoscopy. These imaging techniques are providing new insights in the pathophysiology and treatments of asthma and are poised to impact the clinical management of asthma.
Children with intestinal failure (IF) have frequent catheter-related bloodstream infections (CRBSIs). selleck chemical This study aimed to analyze the clinical presentation and laboratory parameters of CRBSIs in children with IF.

This 6-year retrospective study was conducted among IF children with CRBSIs at an intestinal rehabilitation center in China. Clinical data were collected, including data of temperature and gastrointestinal symptoms. Blood/catheter culture, fecal tests, and calculation of inflammatory index were performed, which were obtained within 1 week since CRBSI onset.

Fifty children with 87 CRBSIs were identified, of which there were 17 suspected and 70 confirmed cases. Seventy-two pathogens were cultured from 70 positive blood cultures 63% were Gram-positive organisms, 23% were Gram-negative organisms, and 11% were fungal organisms. Overall, 48.6% were enteric organisms; 47.2% of bacterial pathogens were consistent between fecal and blood cultures. Moreover, 46.3% fecal routines showed abnormalities including increased white blood cells, occult blood positive and the presence of fat droplets. The consistent symptom at onset of CRBSIs was fever and gastrointestinal symptoms including increased stool output, abdominal distension, or both. C-reactive protein (CRP) and procalcitonin (PCT) were elevated, i.e., 16.5mg/L [interquartile range (IQR) 8.7-44.7] and 0.48ng/mL (IQR 0.2-1.76), respectively.

IF children had a high rate of CRBSIs, of which larger proportions were due to Gram-positive and enteric organisms. Fever and/or gastrointestinal symptoms, combined with elevated CRP and PCT, is conducive to the early diagnosis of CRBSIs in IF patients.

While the decreased quality of life and significant morbidity has been implicated with UFs, several important questions regarding the effect of UFs on reproductive outcomes remain unanswered. Furthermore, there is a disproportionate impact of UFs in Black women, in whom these tumors are known to be more common and more severe. The racial difference in UF burden is heightened during prime reproductive years, during which Black women undergo surgical intervention at an astoundingly increased rate compared to other races. Despite this, Black women are underrepresented in UF and treatment outcome research, and thus the uncertainty of the impact of UFs and UF treatment on fertility and pregnancy outcomes in this population is less defined. The purpose of this review article is to discuss recent findings in the literature regarding the impact of uterine UFs on reproductive outcomes with a primary focus on the implications for Black women. Additionally, we briefly discuss the importance of increased UF research funding and investigation and propose actionable items to help increase the representation of Black women in UF research.
