Electronic medical records (EMRs) are adopted for storing patient-related healthcare information. Using data mining techniques, it is possible to make use of and derive benefit from this massive amount of data effectively. We aimed to evaluate validity of data extracted by the Customized eXtraction Program (CXP).
The CXP extracts and structures data in rapid standardised processes. The CXP was programmed to extract TNFα-native active ulcerative colitis (UC) patients from EMRs using defined International Classification of Disease-10 (ICD-10) codes. Extracted data were read in parallel with manual assessment of the EMR to compare with CXP-extracted data.
From the complete EMR set, 2,802 patients with code K51 (UC) were extracted. Then, CXP extracted 332 patients according to inclusion and exclusion criteria. Of these, 97.5% were correctly identified, resulting in a final set of 320 cases eligible for the study. When comparing CXP-extracted data against manually assessed EMRs, the recovery rate was 95.6-10cified inclusion and exclusion criteria. Beyond this, medical procedures and laboratory data can rapidly be retrieved from the EMRs to create tailored databases of extracted material for immediate use in clinical trials.
Orofacial pain diagnosis is a difficult process. This article reports the case of a 38 y.o. patient experiencing severe acute facial pain of dental origin initially diagnosed as non odontogenic.
The patient consulted at the dental emergency department for severe and frequent neuropathic-like paroxysmal pain attacks located in the anterior right maxilla. The pain fulfilled the ICHD3 criteria for Trigeminal Neuralgia (TN) of the right maxillary branch (V2) and responses to sensitivity tests were ambiguous due to severe allodynia. After one week of carbamazepine treatment (600mg/day), the patient was pain free except for a slight mechanical allodynia on tooth #12. Sensitivity tests revealed pulp necrosis and tomodensitometry revealed a rare developmental abnormality, dens invaginatus. Root canal treatment was performed.
No recurrence of the pain was noted after 18 months without any medication.

The symptoms and signs of TMDs are several pain and tenderness in and around the TMJs and muscles of mastication, limitation and lack of coordination in jaw movement, joint sounds - clicking and/or crepitus, episodes of closed lock or open lock, headaches. In the TMD, degenerative joint disease (DJD), also called osteoarthritis (OA), may be a local condition or part of a systemic disease. According to the Research Diagnostic Criteria for Temporomandibular Disorders RDC/TMD, OA involves the presence of reported symptoms and clinical signs. As regards the possible causes, the literature indicates that mechanical load may act as a trigger factor for a various degenerative modification resulting in con-dylar resorption when host remodeling capacity is lost. Although the role of occlusion in the etiology of TMD is not absolutely assessed, occlusal interferences could affect TMD. The aim of this case report is to present the history over time (20 years follow-up) of a female adult patient with osteoarthritis of TMJs, who showed an adaptative reshaping of the condyles and to consider the possible relation with orthodontic treatment and occlusal rehabilitation. Key wordsTMD, osteoarthritis, condylar reshaping, adult treatment.In order to clarify the prognosis of intentional replantation used for palatogingival groove treatment for long-term follow-up observation, the case of a patient with a maxillary lateral incisor with palatogingival groove was investigated. The intentional replantation was carried out to preserve the tooth. The periodontal pocket and the apical bone defect were almost completely repaired at 12-month follow-up. However, the infection was reoccurred after 25-month follow-up examinations. The infected tooth was extracted, of which the root was investigated by histological analysis. Therefore, the reason of the replant failure and the pathways of bacterial infection was investigated. The WHO defines obesity as abnormal excessive fat accumulation. Indeed, it is the most relevant nutritional disorder in the developed countries. Nutrition turns out to be relevant for childhood development involving different systems and organs as and including teeth development. Prediction of teeth eruption results of relevance in odontopediatrics and more particularly at transitional stages with mixed dentition. Early teeth eruption can lead to dental defects and eventually to periodontal disease. In addition to this, obesity increases chronic periodontitis risk on teenagers and young-adults. Objectives The aim of the work is to confirm the relation of weigh and dental eruption on six years old children.

Mentally disabled patients commonly offer little or no cooperation in dental treatments, and general anesthesia may become necessary in such cases. The present study was to identify the most relevant factors in dental treatment under general anesthesia in disabled patients based on a Major Ambulatory Surgery (MAS) model. The study analyzes anesthetic variables and type of dental procedures carried out for disabled patients compared with controls.
A case-control study was carried out with 574 patients (263 cases and 311 controls) subjected to dental treatment under general anesthesia in the Day Surgery Unit of Dr. Peset University Hospital (Valencia, Spain). Epidemiological, anthropometric and preoperative data (ASA score, Mallampati classification) were collected.
Males and obesity were more prevalent among disabled patients than controls. Significant associations were found between longer surgery time, underwent thoot extraction, tartrectomy, fillings and disabled patients treated under general anesthesia. The preoperative risk scores were likewise higher in disabled patients (ASA III-IV). The duration of surgery increased with the ASA score but didn´t influence postoperative stay. Patient condition in the first 24 hours of late postoperative recovery was good in both groups.
Dental treatment based on the MAS in mentally disabled patients is effective and safe, even in individuals with a certain prior risk (ASA III).

Painful post-traumatic trigeminal neuropathy (PTTN) is a known complication of dental implant therapy. Besides cases resulting of nerve damage during surgery or implant placement, some patients report delayed neuropathic-like symptoms only after implant loading i.e. crown placement. The present retrospective study aimed at describing the clinical features of pain experienced by these patients.
The cohort of patients consulting for chronic orofacial pain at the Groupe Hospitalier Pitié-Salpêtrière (Paris, France) between 2015 and 2020 (ABCD study, IRB # TPS 1106180), was screened for patients with history of dental implant placement and persistent pain. Patients with no pain after surgery for 6 months and pain resulting from the loading of the implant, were included.
Among 675 files of patients screened, 5 fulfilled inclusion criteria. All patients were women, mean age 62.4 ± 9.8 y.o, and reported trigeminal neuropathic-like persistent pain. Intensity of pain was described as moderate to severe, with pin and needles, burning and tingling, and electric shocks as main symptoms.
These results suggest that implant loading can trigger trigeminal neuropathy, in a previously sensitized nerve. Putative neurophysiological basis of the phenomenon is discussed. check details

Although visual inspection is the preferred route in everyday clinical practise for detecting early caries lesions, novel technologies like light fluorescence-based devices (Vista Proof iX HD smart) have been developed to enhance early caries detection.
Occlusal surface of 45 molar and 49 premolar teeth from 34 adult participants who fulfilled the eligibility criteria were examined by two observers using three diagnostic methods. Examination was performed visually using the International Caries Detection and Assessment System (ICDAS-II) followed by Vista Proof. Fissurotomy was applied for histological validation. Intra- and inter-observer agreement were measured for ICDAS-II and light-induced fluorescence camera using Kappa test. The overall diagnostic accuracy parameters, area under the receiver operating characteristic curve (AUC-ROC) and 95% confidence interval (95% CI) of the (AUC) for caries detection by Vista Poof were evaluated.

Provisional materials must have enough strength to withstand masticatory loads without suffering deformation or fracture, and their surfaces must have good finishing and polishing characteristics to reduce biofilm accumulation. Thus, the purpose of this study was to investigate the best polishing protocol for different bis-acryl composite resins in comparison with a conventional resin composite and a self-curing acrylic resin aiming to obtain a smooth restoration surface and resistance to wear.
One hundred and four samples (15 mm length x 5 mm width x 4 mm depth) were prepared and divided into four groups according to the material tested Protemp 4 and Structur 3 bis-acryl composite resins, Dencor self-curing acrylic resin, Filtek Z350XT conventional composite resin. The polishing procedures were performed with Sof-Lex Pop-On discs or Sof-Lex spirals and abrasion procedures were performed on a brushing machine. The surface roughness was analyzed at three periods (initial, post-polishing and post-brushing) and the wear was evaluated after simulated brushing.
