Group A rotavirus (RVA) is one of the most common causes of severe diarrhea in children worldwide. However, RVA is also an important pathogen causing adult diarrhea, with higher infection rates in older patients. To provide evidence for rotavirus epidemic control and to inform vaccine development, we analyzed the molecular epidemiology of RVA among adult outpatients with diarrhea in Beijing from 2011 to 2018. Stool specimens were collected monthly from 14 districts. RVA was detected using enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay and real-time reverse-transcription polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR). Genotyping of rotavirus was performed using multiplex semi-nested RT-PCR. Phylogenetic analysis was performed using maximum likelihood methods implemented in MEGA software (version 6.06). Logistic regression and chi-square tests were used to assess differences among age groups, districts, years, and genotype distributions. The prevalence of rotavirus was 10.16% (1310 of 12,893) among adult outpatients with diarrhea from 2011 to 2018 in Beijing. The highest prevalence (13.74%, 600 of 4367) was observed among those aged 41 to 65 years. November, December, and January had the highest positive detection rates. In 2011, G3P[8] and G9P[8] were the dominant genotypes. Starting from 2012, G9P[8] became the dominant genotype. Most G9 strains belonged to the G9-VI clade. Most P[8] strains belonged to the P[8]-III clade. RVA is a major cause of adult diarrhea in Beijing. Continuous molecular surveillance is needed, and transmission of rotavirus between children and adults should be investigated further.
To test the effectiveness of nurse-led dietary diabetes insipidus (DI) bundle on the severity of postoperative fluid imbalance in pituitary region tumours.

Blinded randomized controlled trial.

Patients aged 18-65 operated for sellar-suprasellar tumours in an Indian tertiary care centre were enrolled through total enumeration sampling and underwent randomization with allocation concealment during Sep 2018-Feb 2019. Pre-operative DI, postoperative ventilation, renal failure or decompensated diabetes mellitus were excluded. Patients in the intervention group received a nurse-led DI bundle (validated by three Delphi rounds) with four dietary components intake of only water during thirst and avoidance of the following-added salt, high-protein foods and caffeinated drinks. Treating clinicians and the investigator assessing outcome were blinded about enrolment. Urine output, serum sodium, vasopressin requirement and hospital stay were assessed as primary outcomes. The outcome measures were monitored daily tillreport of dietary DI bundle among operated pituitary patients, which seem to flatten the DI trend with significant benefits in polyuria, hypernatraemia, vasopressin requirement and hospital stay.

CTRI/2018/07/015127 of ICMR.

The nurse-led dietary DI bundle has effectively reduced the severity of DI among operated pituitary patients with significant benefits in polyuria, hypernatraemia, vasopressin requirement and hospital stay. VU0463271 concentration Its implementation is simple and easy to carry out, especially in resource-constrained institutions, where continuous monitoring and repeated serum sodium estimation are difficult.

Seahorses and samples from the surrounding environment (sediment and water) were collected from Cantiasay Island in Surigao del Norte, Philippines. Genomic DNA was isolated from these samples, and the V1-V3 region of the 16S rRNA gene was amplified and sequenced on the Illumina MiSeq platform. There were 929 803 sequence reads corresponding to 859 operational taxonomic units (OTUs), which were obtained from the six genomic libraries. The results showed that the most abundant OTUs were affiliated to the phylum Proteobacteria, particularly those belonging to the genera Shewanella, Pseudomonas, Acinetobacter and Aeromonas, which were found to be dominant in seahorse gut samples. The only exception was for the skin of male seahorses, which was dominated by members belonging to the genus Bacillus (phylum Firmicutes). These findings on bacterial community structure and composition may shed light on therapeutic claims of Barbour's seahorses and help in the conservation of this species.
Superficial and cutaneous fungal infections are common in tropical areas. The aim of this study was to provide a basic database of superficial and cutaneous mycoses and the most common etiological agents among patients.

Between 2015 and 2019, a total of 1807 patients suspected of superficial and cutaneous mycosis referring to the mycology laboratory of Shiraz medical school, Fars, Iran were evaluated. Specimens were taken from the patients' affected area, and clinical samples were examined by direct microscopy and culture. The epidemiological profile of the patients was collected.

A total of 750 patients were confirmed with mycoses. Positive samples totaled 750 cases consisting of the nail (373/49.7%), skin (323/43%), head (47/6.26%), and mucosal membrane (4/0.5%). The yeasts group included 304 Candida spp. (70.3%), 123Malassezia spp. (28.47%), and 5 Rhodotorula spp. (1.1%). The filamentous fungi were distributed as 34.8% dermatophytes and 7.5% non-dermatophyte. The clinical types of dermatophytosis were tinea unguium (110/261), tinea capitis (50/261), tinea pedis (48/261), tinea corporis (37/261), and tinea cruris (16/261). Non-dermatophyte molds included A.flavus 17, A.niger 4, Aspergillus spp. 15, Penicillium. 10, Fusarium 6, Mucor 2, Stemphylium 1, and Alternaria 1.

This study provides useful data for the study trends of superficial and cutaneous fungal infections in a specific area. The mycological data confirmed higher incidence of candidiasis (mainly onychomycosis) and dermatophytosis in patients affected by fungal pathogens, which helped to better understand the epidemiological aspects of these mycoses.
