The findings provide a feasible way for the extraction, purification, and optimization of polysaccharides from plant resources. In this study, rice bran protein-chlorogenic acid (RBP-CA) emulsion was subjected to an ultrasonic-assisted treatment technique. The encapsulation efficiency and loading capacity of chlorogenic acid (CA), and the morphology, particle size, zeta (ζ)-potential, atomic force microscopy image, viscosity, turbidity, and interfacial protein content of the emulsion under different ultrasonic power were investigated. The results revealed that the emulsion exhibited an encapsulation efficiency and loading capacity of 86.26 ± 0.11% and 17.25 ± 0.06 g/100 g, respectively, at an ultrasonic power of 400 W. In addition, the size of the emulsion droplets decreased and became more evenly distributed. Furthermore, the viscosity of the emulsion decreased significantly, and it exhibited a turbidity and interfacial protein content of 24,758 and9.34 mg/m2, respectively. Next, the storage, oxidation, thermal, and salt ion stabilities of the emulsion were evaluated. The results revealed that the ultrasonic-assisted treatment considerably improved the stability of the emulsion.
Medical professional performances can be assessed by objective structured clinical examinations (OSCEs) where medical trainees go through a series of simulated clinical situations. OSCEs are now the gold standard for the assessment of medical students' competence during their training. In France, the first national OSCEs will take place in May 2024 and respiratory teachers will be involved in this reform and will use OSCEs for students' training and assessment in respiratory medicine. Students training regarding this final OSCE may vary across medical faculties and may impact students' results. Therefore, we aimed to provide a national overview of OSCE's training performed by respiratory teachers and their interest in developing a common French databank of OSCEs.

We conducted a national anonymous online survey among the members of the French college of respiratory teachers (CEP), from 2021 February the 15th to 2021 June the 15th. The survey consisted of 32 questions.

Among 118 French pulmonologists teachers, 52 (45%) responded to the survey. We received a response from at least one of each of the French Medical Universities. Twenty-two (42%) had received specific training on how to conduct an OSCE. Twenty-eight (54%) of respondents used OSCEs for training purposes and 24 (46%) for assessment purposes, for less than 1 year in more than half of the participants. FPS-ZM1 purchase The average satisfaction scores out of 10 about OSCEs was 7.3±1.7 for training and 7.4±1.5 for students' assessment. Respondents were willing (8.9±1.8 out of ten) to develop a common databank to share OSCEs subjects in respiratory medicine in France.

This survey confirms heterogeneity in the training and the use of OSCEs among French respiratory teachers. However, a common national databank could be a useful tool to reduce these disparities.

Polarity switching causes an increase in the cycle time of the HRMS measurements (1.18 s/cycle vs 0.27 s/cycle), resulting in fewer data points across chromatographic peaks. The coefficient of variation (CV) was on average lower for the added isotopically labelled standards in pooled samples (QC) and patient samples using separate polarities (QC = 5.6%, samples = 12.5%) compared to polarity switching (QC = 8.5%, samples = 13.4%), but the difference was not statistically significant. For the endogenous features measured in the QCs polarity switching resulted in on average significantly higher CVs (3.80 (p = 4.25e-30) and 3.3 percentage points (p = 6.84e-40), for positive and negative modes, respectively) however still acceptable for an untargeted method (mean CVs of 17.9% and 12.2% in positive and negative modes respectively). A slightly larger number of endogenous features were detected using the separate polarities, but the large majority of features (>95%) were detected with both methodologies. The overlap of features detected in both positive and negative polarities was low (4.1%) demonstrating the importance of using both polarities for untargeted lipidomics. When investigating the effects of a treatment on multiple sclerosis patients it was found that both methodologies gave highly similar biological results, further confirming the applicability of polarity switching.Insulin is a peptide hormone that is secreted by the β cells of the pancreas and is essential to the metabolism of carbohydrates, fats, and proteins in the body. The marmoset insulin peptide is not homologous with human insulin and therefore commonly available assays do not work for this species. Due to the increasing popularity of marmoset research, a simple, specific assay for the quantitation of marmoset insulin is needed. This study aimed to develop and validate a bottom-up proteomic workflow with trypsin digestion and analysis using LC coupled with triple quadrupole mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS). Marmoset serum proteins were subjected to denaturation, reduction, and enzymatic cleavage to extract a unique, 7 amino acid peptide for quantitation of marmoset insulin. Resolution of the peptide was achieved by LC-MS/MS using electrospray ionization operating in positive mode. Calibration was achieved by aliquot dilution of fully synthetic marmoset insulin tryptic peptide into macaque serum. A stable-isotope labeled (13C, 15N) synthetic marmoset insulin tryptic peptide was used as internal standard. The assay was fully validated according to bioanalytical method validation guidelines for linearity, precision, and dilution linearity using purified marmoset insulin. The limit of detection was 15.49 pmol/L and the limit of quantitation was 140.78 pmol/L. Biological validation was achieved by comparison of samples previously run by radioimmunoassay and measurement of the marmoset insulin response to glucose via an oral glucose tolerance test (OGTT). The physiological range of marmoset insulin was shown to be 84.5 to 1222 pmol/L. In summary, this paper presents a simple, reproducible method to measure marmoset insulin in serum using LC-MS/MS.
The purpose of this study is to identify the relative strengths of association of medication and health and social services in comprehensive substance use disorder (SUD) treatment.

The study uses a novel variance decomposition method to assess the relative strength of association of six active ingredients of comprehensive SUD treatment methadone medication, access services, SUD counseling, matched service ratio, client-provider relationship, and treatment duration.

The study uses data from the National Treatment Improvement Evaluation Study (1992-1997), a dataset with an unusual number of services and service strategies measured. The data include 3012 clients from 45 SUD treatment programs. Linear mixed models are used to assess the relation of service variables to the outcome of posttreatment substance use. Variance decomposition methods are used to assess the relative importance of the ingredients in the treatment model.

Sustained attention is a key variable affecting nursing students' academic performance during online learning process. However, factors contributing to sustained attention remain to be determined.

To analyze the path relationships among the influencing factors for nursing students' sustained attention in online learning using a structural equation model.

A cross-sectional survey was administered.

Nursing students from 35 nursing schools in China were invited to participate in this survey study. Once participating in nursing programs and receiving online learning, they were eligible for the study. The data were collected online via the Questionnaire Star platform from March 29 to April 19, 2020. A structural equation modelling (SEM) approach was utilized to analyze the relationships between sustained attention and influencing factors (situational interest, anxiety, cognitive load, technology efficacy and professional identity). Furthermore, multi-group SEM analysis was conducted to examine whether the  27.228, p = 0.611).

Technology efficacy, professional identity, situational interest, anxiety and cognitive load are identified as the main elements affecting nursing students' sustained attention. This model is equally suitable for nursing students in different levels of nursing programs. During the process of online learning, students' attributes, emotions and cognition should be considered to help students achieve learning goals in nursing education.

This study aimed to identify risk factors of postoperative seizure outcome in a consecutive cohort of patients operated on for TSC-related focal epilepsy, by evaluating several presurgical and surgical variables, including also MRI-visible brain abnormalities other than cortical tubers.

This retrospective study included 51 patients surgically treated for drug-resistant focal epilepsy with a histological diagnosis of cortical tuber and followed for at least 12 months postoperatively. We investigated the association between several potentially explanatory variables and seizure outcome by univariate and multivariate analysis in the whole cohort and in the subgroups of patients with single and multiple tubers, respectively.

The median postoperative follow-up was 115 months (IQR 63-168) and 54.9% of patients were in Engel's class I at final control. In the whole cohort, variables independently associated with an unfavorable seizure outcome (Engel's classes II-IV) were preoperative non-focal interictal EEG (RR 5, CI 2.46-6.39), presence of sub-ependymal nodules (SEN) (RR 3.53, CI 1.71-4.56) and seizure onset before the first year of age (RR 3.56, CI 0.91-6.89). Non-focal interictal EEG was independently associated with an unfavorable outcome also in the subgroup of patients with multiple tubers (RR 4.34, CI 2.23-5.37), while the presence of SEN (p=0.0221) and of extra-central nervous system lesions (p= 0.0152) predicted an unfavorable seizure outcome in patients with a single tuber.

Surgery represents an effective option for seizure control in patients with TSC-related epilepsy. The identification of preoperative risk factors for seizure outcome could be helpful for optimizing patients' selection for surgery and pre-surgical counseling.
